Alan C. Kemke

Alan C. Kemke, age 56, of Platteville, WI, completed his earthly journey on June 20, 2022, at home after a courageous battle with ALS.  To honor Alan’s life, a private family service is being held.  The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Alan’s family.

Alan was born on May 19, 1966, in Milwaukee, WI, a son to Ron and Barb (Sipek) Kemke.  He grew up with a kind and gentle heart and a love for all things good in this world.  Alan was as thoughtful and considerate a man as you’d ever hope to meet and always kept a level head about himself.  He decided to chase a career in quality engineering and after earning his Bachelor’s Degree, invested many years with Hy Pro Inc in Platteville before being forced into early retirement due to his ALS diagnosis.  The next 5 years were very challenging for Alan, but he continued to wear a brave face and fought to the best of his abilities as each new battle appeared in his days.  In his earlier years, Alan was very active, especially where the outdoors could be enjoyed as well.  He enjoyed skiing, fishing, volleyball and was always up for a little hiking while searching for the latest rock to add to his collection.  Alan also enjoyed bowling and darts with family and friends whenever the opportunity arose.  It breaks our hearts to even think over trying to move forward in this life without Alan’s positive spirit right by our side, but are thankful that his earthly struggles are now over for him and he can rest peacefully until we all meet again.  Thank you, Alan, for being the calming strength in any and all situations and may we continue to carry your wonderful legacy forward just as you would hope for.

Sheila A. Goedken

Sheila Ann Goedken, 78, of Dubuque, died Saturday, June 18, 2022, at the ProMedica Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation in Dubuque.

A Celebration of Life will be from 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm Saturday, July 2, 2022 at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home & Crematory.

Sheila was born June 26, 1943, in Cedarburg, WI, the daughter of Frederick and Elizabeth “Betty” (Carlson) Carthew.

Sheila loved to blast around town in her Jeep.  She was a very social person, everywhere she went
people wanted to be around her, she was the life of the party.  Sheila cherished time spent with her daughter, son-in-law, grandson, and grand-dogs.

Survivors include one daughter, Sarah (Eric) Meier of Chanhassen, MN; one grandson, Zachary Meier of Chanhassen, MN; sisters, Kathy (Ron) Mootz of Darlington, WI, Chris (Greg) Murray of Monroe, WI, Carol (Bill) Vey of Fredonia, WI, Patricia Eberhardt of Waunakee, WI, and Mary Heller of Stockton, IL; sister-in-law, Karen Carthew of Portage, WI; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Dennis Carthew; and brother-in-law, Dean Heller.

Gloria Lenstra

Gloria Lenstra, 85, of Dubuque, passed away Sunday, June 19, 2022, at Bethany Home.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 23, at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 John F. Kennedy Rd., Dubuque. Visitation will continue on Friday, June 24, at Hope Church, 11893 John F. Kennedy Rd., Dubuque, where the Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday. Services will be web-cast on Glorias’ obituary page at www.egelhofsiegertcasper.com, where condolences may also be shared. Interment will be at Linwood Cemetery, Dubuque.

Gloria was born January 28, 1937 in St. Catherine’s Ridge, Iowa, the daughter of Edwin and Florence (Hilkin) Mitchell. She was a graduate of St. Joseph’s Academy. During summer breaks she worked as a guide at Crystal Lake Cave. Upon graduation she was employed at Rainbow Oil, where she met Marvin Lenstra. Marvin always said she gave a lot of orders, and he liked it so much he figured she could give him orders for the rest of their lives! She married Marvin Lenstra in the fall of 1957. He preceded her in death in August of 1998.

After her first child, Tim, was born Gloria was a stay-at-home mom for a while.

Gloria then worked for The Frudden Lumber Co. and later The North Missouri Lumber Company of Manhattan, Kansas for 21 years until the office closed in 1991. From 1989 to 1992 Gloria owned and ran SOZO’s Homemade Ice Cream which was located on Central Ave.

She then worked for KDTH radio as a secretary in the business office, and finally at St. Mary’s Apartments as a manger until her retirement. Gloria was a longtime member of Hope Church, and her faith was very important to her. In her younger years Gloria enjoyed playing volleyball. She was always very active, and enjoyed camping, the outdoors, socializing with coworkers and church members, and traveling many places, including Cairo Egypt. She also loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Gloria is survived by her children, Paula (Bryon) Kuhlmann of Rothschild, WI, Mary Ellen (Jeff) Falk, of Lodi, WI, Terry (Julie) Lenstra, of Dubuque, and Lisa (Dan Norman) Lenstra-Norman, of Cascade; her grandchildren, Nicole (Joe) Trapani, Bart (Mindy) Kuhlmann, Mitch (fiancé MacKenzie Ripp)Falk, Elise Norman, and Gabrielle Norman; six great grandchildren; her brother, John (Rosie) Mitchell, of Asbury; and two sisters-in-law, Phyllis Barton, of Dubuque, and Tina Rodriguez, of NY.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Timothy Lenstra; her granddaughter, Danielle Skatrud; her siblings, Mary (Frank) Maiden, and Loras (Ann) Mitchell; her parents; and her in-laws, Bob Lenstra and Virginia Kieffer.

Ruth A. Clark

Ruth Ada Clark, 97, of Dubuque, passed away Monday, June 13, 2022, at Bethany Home.

Ruth donated her body to the University of Iowa Anatomical Gift Program. There will be a Celebration of Life for friends and family in the chapel at Bethany Home at 2 p.m. on July 21, 2022, and a graveside service at the family plot in Linwood Cemetery once her remains are returned by the University. Ruth was born January 19, 1925 in Dubuque, to Henry and Ada Betsy (Campbell) Herrmann. She married Eugene Paul Clark on June 15, 1945 at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, Dubuque.

Ruth was Valedictorian of the class of 1945 at the University of Dubuque, where she earned her B.A. in Education.  She continued her focus on Special Education at the University of Dubuque and at Loras College, and then earned her M.A. from the University of Iowa. She was a Special Education teacher for Dubuque Community Schools for 21 years, retiring in 1986.

Ruth was an active member of the community.  She was a life-long member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church which she served as Sunday School Teacher and Secretary of the Board; and a supporting member of  the United Methodist Women’s organization.  She  supported the Hillcrest  Family Services of Iowa; the  National Rivers Hall of Fame; the Friends of the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuges; the Catfish Creek Coalition; and the Dubuque Area Congregations United.  She was a Life Member and Local Secretary of the Dubuque chapter of the NAACP.  She served as Past President of Church Women United;  Secretary of the Board of the Dubuque Rescue Mission;  Past President of P.E.O Chapter IP;   Housing Commissioner for the Dubuque Area Housing Trust Fund; and Secretary of the Board of the Dubuque County Historical Society.  She was an active member of the Busy Bee Circle, and Zeta Phi Sorority of the University of Dubuque.

Ruth was a prolific writer who published several books after the age of 83.  There are also several self-published children’s books. The picture included is Ruth at age 22.

Ruth is survived by three children, DeAda (Dr. Henry) Mally, of San Francisco, CA, Judson Paul (Sharon) Clark, of Dubuque, and Dr. Karen (Dan) Griffith, of Iowa City, IA; her grandchildren, Heather Clark, of Poynette, WI; Forrestt (Bridget) Clark of Dubuque;  Dr. Sarah (Scott Faust) Griffith of Grosse Pointe Farms, MI;  Brian (Emily) Griffith of North Liberty;   Paul (Kim) Goranson of Sherrill, IA, and Timothy (Melissa) Goranson, of Dubuque, and several great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death  by her parents and her mother in law;  her siblings Richard Campbell Herrmann, Grace (Rev. Robert) Soka, and Marjorie (Horst) Rickert;  her husband Eugene Paul Clark;  her son, Christian John Clark;  two daughters-in-law, Teresa Valerie Clark and Sharon Clark; and her grandson, Camryn Clark. The family is thankful for knowledge of Ruth’s strong faith and acceptance of the grace and mercy of Jesus.

Billy R. Simpson

Billy R. Simpson, 42, of Dubuque, Iowa, passed away on June 19, 2022, at his home.

A visitation will be held on Friday June 24th, 2022, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road.

Billy was born on August 13, 1979, in Dubuque, son of Todd and Wanda (Millman) Simpson.

He graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1997. He was married to Teresa Manske on October 4, 2008, in Dubuque, Iowa. Billy was a passionate Viking fan and was fascinated with astronomy and Roman history.

He is survived by his wife Teresa Simpson; his sons Seth and Carter; his mother Wanda Simpson; father Todd (step-mother, Kimberly) Simpson; and Grandmother Norene Millman.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather William Millman.

Sandra L. Dew

Sandra L. “Sandy” Dew, age 69, of Dubuque, IA, completed her earthly journey on June 19, 2022,  at Dubuque Specialty Care after a long battle with multiple health issues. Per Sandy’s request, no services will be held at this time.  The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Sandy’s family.

Sandy was born on July 7, 1952, in Freeport, IL, the only child of Robert and Dorothy (Mathiot)Dew.  Sandy always knew that she wanted to devote her life to helping others and proudly earned her degree in nursing from Illinois Wesleyan University.  She promptly began her nursing career in Miami and after 2 years there, she decided that it was time to move back closer to home and started working at the Cook County Hospital in Chicago.  Sandy always said she was proud to work in a hospital community which cared for people who were mostly disregarded and surrounded by poverty and violence.  Sandy worked in numerous departments over the years and was eventually promoted into an administrative position.  After another 8 years, she applied for and was accepted into a nursing administrative position in Saudi Arabia.  She faced many challenges being a woman in Saudi Arabia during the mid-80’s, but in true Sandy fashion, she merely found it as another opportunity to thrive and serve others.  After 2 years there, she returned to Chicago and went on to earn her MBA and was eventually promoted to a vice-president position at Mt. Sinai Hospital.  She faithfully and earnestly invested countless hours and endless amounts of energy in order to achieve her goals in life, and continually possessed a spirit of humility throughout while her naturally gifted genius was clearly on display.  Sandy initially began visiting Dubuque beginning in 1993 as a vacation getaway.  Within two months, she bought a home of her own here after realizing that this was where she desired to retire.  Unfortunately, her major health issues began to appear in 2003 which would in turn lead to multiple surgeries and extended rehabilitations.  Over the next 4 years, she would need to re-learn to walk 5 times and sadly serious health issues continued to follow her for the rest of her life.  Sandy enjoyed traveling extensively (especially to her timeshare in Aruba) and experiencing all of the wonders of God’s creation.  In her free time, Sandy enjoyed sitting down to work on her latest crochet project, challenging herself with puzzle books and adult coloring, shopping for amazing works of art among other treasures, along with photography and playing the slots if the opportunity presented itself. Sandy was a fighter through and through and never gave up despite the serious health issues which plagued her daily life.  She often credited her friends at Hope Church with helping her return and grow in her faith.  Her friends gave her the support and love that she needed to face the difficult circumstances and her faith granted her the strength and hope she required to keep her eyes on the eternal side of life’s equation.  Sandy’s favorite Bible verses were 2 Corinthians 4:16-18. “Therefore, we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.  For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.  So, we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”   We will miss Sandy’s bold and adventurous spirit, her vibrant independent streak, and zest for all that is good in this temporal world, but we know and trust that she is now safe in the loving arms of her Lord and Savior and we can only wait to see her beautiful smile once again.  Thank you, Sandy, for leaving your positive imprint on almost every aspect of the world that you came into contact with and may we strive to carry such a wonderful legacy forward in our lives as well until we meet again.

Sandy’s family would like to thank Dr. Cao, his nurses and staff, everyone at Finley Hospital, Dubuque Specialty Care, Dubuque Manor Care, and the University of Iowa Urology Department, along with the nurses and staff at Hospice of Dubuque for all of their professional care, patience, kindness, and compassionate care.  Sandy bravely faced more than her share of difficult medical circumstances and having so many excellent care providers alongside her throughout her battles surely made the trek a little easier for her.  We cannot thank you enough and may the Lord bless all of you for your kindnesses.

Charles H. Baxter Jr.

Charles “Chuck” H. Baxter Jr., 49, of Dubuque, Iowa, passed away on Saturday June 18, 2022. A visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, June 23, 2022, at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road where a service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Private family burial will be held in Dubuque Memorial Gardens.

Chuck was born on August 30, 1972, son of Joyce Ann Pregler. He graduated high school from Dubuque Senior, and went on to graduate from NICC with a certification in CNC Machines. He used this degree while working at AY McDonald as a CNC Machinist. Chuck was an outgoing individual who loved life, and was always active. He loved boxing, shooting pool at Hammerheads, lifting weights at the YMCA, and was a former member of Dubuque Martial Arts Group.  He liked his popcorn maker, his popsicles, shooting guns, his cars (especially his Mustang), and his mail lady (fiancée). Above all, he loved his family and friends.

Chuck is survived by his fiancée Jen Enke; sons Zachary (fiancée Allie) Werner and Casey Baxter; his mother Joyce; sisters Candace (Todd) Dalsing and Tammy (Dan) Harwick; nephews Austin, Jake, and Luke; nieces Nicole, Anna, Morgan, Alicia, and Emeryn; cousin and best friend Gene Baxter; and his fiancée’s children Caeli and Noah.

Chuck’s family would like to extend their gratitude to Craig Enke, members of the Dubuque Fire Dept, Dubuque Police Dept, and staff at MercyOne for assisting during this difficult time.  

Mary Ann Puff

Mary Ann Puff, 83, formerly of Dubuque, died Saturday, June 11, 2022, at Tranquility Hospice at Kennesaw Mountain in Marietta, GA.

Visitation will be from 9:30 am until 10:30 am Saturday, August 20, 2022, at Church of the Nativity.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Ann will be 10:30 am Saturday, August 20, 2022, at Church of the Nativity with Father Andy Upah as the Celebrant. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Key West.

Mary Ann was born June 27, 1938, in Raeville, NE, the daughter of Anton and Dorothy (Kurtenbach) Grundmeyer. On May 29, 1962, she married David Cleon Puff in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Manchester, IA. David died on November 14, 2018.

She graduated from Dundee High School in Dundee, IA.

She was a nurse’s assistant before marriage and a homemaker after.

Mary Ann was a tenacious bridge player and loved any card game. She was an advocate for animals and had a special place in her heart for cats and kittens, even from the earliest age. She played tennis and baked delicious German sweets. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family.

Survivors include four children, Theresa Puff of Sarasota, FL, Christine Carr of Marietta, GA, Gregory (Miho) Puff of Toyko, Japan, and Rebecca (Jeff) McComas of Woodbury, MN; seven grandchildren, Colin and Ryan Carr, Meghan Gantt, Hunter and Reagan McComas, Genzo and Asami Puff; two sisters, Rita Thole of Oelwein, IA, and Dorothy ‘Babe’ Digmann of Dyersville IA; and one brother and sister-in-law, Jim (Janice) Grundmeyer of Manchester, IA.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the Dubuque County Humane Society.

Marilyn M. Dietz

Marilyn M. Dietz, 92, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Saturday evening, June 18, 2022, at Maquoketa Care Center.

A celebration of her life will be held at 11:30 A.M., Thursday, June 23, 2022, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa.  Visitation will be held prior to the funeral from 10 to 11:30 A.M. at the funeral home.  Burial will be at the Union Cemetery, rural Maquoketa, Iowa.

Marilyn Marie Miller was born on September 5, 1929 in Iron Hill, Iowa, to Elmer and Grace (Sagers) Miller.  She was a 1947 graduate of Maquoketa High School and then received her teaching certificate from the University of Dubuque.  She married Donald P. Dietz on December 27, 1948 in Dubuque, Iowa.

Marilyn first taught country school at East Iron Hill from 1947 to 1948.  She then farmed with her husband from 1949 to 1962 in the Lost Nation area, and from 1969 to 2009 they farmed in the Maquoketa area.

Marilyn enjoyed quilting, baking, exercising with friends at the JCRHC, playing cards, and creating holiday celebrations for family.  She had served as a 4-H leader of the Buckhorn Busy Bodies Club and on the Jackson County Extension Youth Committee.  She had also been a member of the United Church of Christ in Maquoketa where she had taught Sunday School.  Additionally, she was a member of the South Fork Township Farm Bureau Forum and the Buckhorn Community Club.

Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Donald Dietz of Maquoketa, IA; children, Kimberly (Larry) Deppe of LaMotte, IA, Barbara (William “Bill”) Bowman of Maquoketa, IA, and Richard “Dick” (Paula) Dietz of Ankeny, IA; 8 grandsons, Robert Dietz, Bryan Dietz, Matthew Deppe, Lucas Deppe, Ara “A.J.” Bowman, Adam Bowman, Samuel Dietz, and Willem Dietz; 18 great-grandchildren; a brother Charles David (Janet) Miller of Maquoketa, IA; and a sister Laurel (Milo) Baker Jr. of Maquoketa, IA.  She was preceded in death by her parents, a son Dennis, and brothers Calvin and Donald.

Nolan C. Anderson

Nolan Charles Anderson passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 15th, surrounded by his family.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 23rd, from 3-6 p.m. at the Evangelical Free Church in Madrid, IA, with services on Friday, June 24th, at 11 a.m.  A private burial will take place at a later date.  There will also be a celebration of life at Sacred Heart School in Maquoketa, IA, on June 25th.

Nolan was born on October 24, 2003 in Des Moines, IA, to Jerod Anderson (Jackie) and Nicole Meek (Kelly).

Nolan was a recent graduate of Madrid High School where he was active in football, basketball, track, and baseball. He enjoyed playing online video games with his friends, spending time with his girlfriend, and going to B Dubs. Nolan was active in Boy Scouts for 8 years where he attained the rank of Life Scout. One of Nolan’s most fun moments came this year when he fouled out of a basketball game in around 5 minutes. The student section was chanting his name, and he just had a big grin on his face. The coach may not have been quite as amused!

Nolan is survived by his parents; his brothers, Quentin and Mason Anderson, and Isaac Soumas; his sister, Athena Soumas; his grandparents, Kenny and LuAnn Wagner and Jean Anderson of Maquoketa, Mike and Cheryl Stubbers of Deltona, FL; his aunts and uncles, Michelle (Josh), Austin, Anna (Michael), Jennifer (Mike), Dale (Melissa), Alex (Mallory), Sarah (Kurt); his niece Freya; and his cousins, Tyler, Nolan, Trent, Grace, TJ, Lydia, Hannah, and Ethan. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, LeRoy Anderson, his grandmother, Darlene Meek, his uncle, Marshall Dunne, and his aunt, Ann Schulte.

Memorial  donations will be used to establish a scholarship in Nolan’s name to be given to a Madrid High School student.

The family invites you to join them at Sacred Heart School on Saturday, June 25th, from 11:00-2:00 to participate in two of Nolan’s favorite pastimes – socializing and eating!  Please come in Hawkeye gear (another of Nolan’s favorites) or casual attire.

Blandina R. Galindo

Blandina Rivera Galindo, 68 of Galena, IL passed away Monday, June 20, 2022, at her home. Funeral mass will be 11 AM, Friday, June 24, 2022, at St. Michaels Catholic Church, Galena and where friends may call after 10 AM until the time of mass. Visitation will be 5 to 7 PM, Thursday, June 23, 2022, at the Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena. Cremation rites will follow the funeral mass. Her ashes will be resting at home with her family.

She grew up and attended school in Mexico. Blandina was united in marriage to Israel Guerrero Moguel, in Mexico and he preceded her in death on February 4, 1985.She worked many jobs and had a great work ethic. Blandina became a widow at a young age and single mom of four girls.She enjoyed cooking for her family and loved her grandchildren dearly. Blandina will be fondly remembered for always doing caring acts for others.

She is survived by her four daughters, Erika Guerrero Rivera, Yolanda Guerrero Rivera, Flor Mireya Salazar, and Faridy Guerrero Rivera, nine grandchildren, her mother, Lucina Galindo Carcamo.

She was preceded in death by her father, Pablo Rivera, her husband, two brothers, Abraham and Moises Rivera and a grandson, GeovannyRamirez Guerrero. Memorials may be sent to Furlong Funeral Chapel in the name of Blandina Rivera Galindo.

Milton C. Tousey

Milton Charles Tousey, 77 of Galena, IL passed away Wednesday, June 15, 2022. A funeral service will be held at 11 AM, Thursday, June 23, 2022, at the Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena and where friends may call after 10 AM, until the time of service. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Galena.

He was born June 24, 1944, in Shawano, WI the son of Milton Francis and Ozelda (Ninham) Tousey. Milt graduated from Bowler High School. He was united in marriage to Barbara Jean (Shillington) Tousey on November 2, 1968, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Palatine, IL, and she preceded him in death on March 28, 2016. Milt worked as Data Processing Manager for Ohm Electronics in Palatine for 25 years until his retirement. He was a proud member of the Stockbridge-Munsee Community Band of Mohican Indians.

Milt is survived by his son, Michael (Laura), three granddaughters, Lana, Ava and Sophia of Algonquin, IL, brother, Arnold (Diana) Tousey of Bowler, WI, three sisters, Eileen Tousey Graham of Rainbow City, AL, Janet (Kurt) Tousey Bruegl of Suring, WI, and Cheri (Dennis) Tousey Bruegl of Bonduel, WI.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Leo and David Tousey.

Earl M. Rhodes

Earl M. “Dusty” Rhodes, 94, of Peosta, Iowa, passed away peacefully with his wife and daughter by his side Saturday, June 18, 2022 at Luther Manor.  Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm, Wednesday, June 22, 2022, at Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 Kennedy Road where funeral services will be held Thursday at 10:30 am.  Inurnment will follow at Dubuque Memorial Gardens.

Dusty was born April 2, 1928 in Kent, Ohio, son of Richard and Rose (Druggan) Rhodes.  He grew up in Pennsylvania until he was 14 and then moved to Ohio where he graduated from Central High School in Akron, Ohio. He then worked for Armour Meats Co. in Akron, Ohio. He worked as a government meat grader for the USDA, including the Dubuque Packing Plant, retiring in 1984. After that, he worked several different jobs with one being a courier for Dubuque Bank and Trust.

Dusty served in the US Army in Germany during the Korean War for two years.

On November 9, 1963, he married Shirley Mai, the love of his life, at St. Patrick’s Church in Dubuque.  Together they had two beautiful daughters. He and Shirley felt blessed and cherished them and their grandchildren. They always enjoyed attending their activities and sporting events. His great grandchildren also held a very special place in his heart.  Dusty loved his family, both in Iowa and Pennsylvania, so he visited them often incorporating it into their family vacations.

Dusty always ate his dessert before his meal, making sure he had enough room for it.  He also said, “If you eat dessert first, you are a lover of life.”

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Rhodes of Peosta; two daughters, Kimberly Delagardelle of Waterloo, Iowa and Lynn (Terry) Boffeli of Holy Cross, Iowa; and five grandchildren, Jed (Erin) Delagardelle of Kansas City, MO, Rose Delagardelle of Waterloo, Iowa, Sam Delagardelle of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Dominic (Liana) Boffeli of Holy Cross, Iowa and Antonio Boffeli of Holy Cross, and three great grandchildren: Madilyn and Luca Boffeli and Levi Delagardelle.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother and sister, and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the countless staff/heroes from Luther Manor, as well as Hospice of Dubuque for taking care of Dusty as though he was their own. Thank you, also to Dr. Kirkendall and nurse Kate for their wonderful care through the years! The family would also like to thank our extended family and friends for all of their support.

Genevieve F. Nemmers

Genevieve Frances Nemmers, age 91, died Saturday June 11, 2022 at her home.

Gen was born March 14, 1931 on the family farm in Fillmore, Iowa; the daughter of J. Louis and Ann (Knepper) Walsh.

She graduated from the Visitation Academy and went on to earn her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing at Loras College, graduating in 1953.  She was a proud member of the Mercy School of Nursing Class of 1952.

Gen married Dr. Julian G. Nemmers of Dubuque on April 25, 1953 at Sacred Heart Church in Fillmore. They raised six children together, and were married for 33 years.

She is survived by her children: Jacqueline Nemmers of Dubuque, Julian (Nancy) Nemmers of Longmont CO and their children Ryan and Justin, Dr. Carolyn Nemmers of Barrington IL, Catherine Nemmers of Dubuque, Ellen (Tim) Tuffy of Barrington and their children Genevieve and Evangeline, John (Natalie) Nemmers of Dubuque and their children Julian and Lauren.

Gen is also survived by her sister Ruth Trausch of Dubuque and a brother Patrick (Carol) Walsh of Bernard, currently residing in Coralville Iowa; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter Mary Ann, her sister and brother-in-law Jean and Dale Bartels of Dyersville, a brother-in-law Thomas Trausch and a nephew Nicholas Bartels.

According to her wishes no services will be held.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial to Hospice of Dubuque.

Terrence D. Allendorf

Terrence D. “Terry” Allendorf, 85, of Dubuque, IA, passed away on Saturday, June 18, 2022, at Hawkeye Care Center.

A time of sharing will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday, June 23rd at the Miller Funeral Home in East Dubuque.  Burial will be in the East Dubuque Cemetery.Visitation will be from 9:30 – 11:15 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.

Terry was born on May 1, 1937, in Dubuque, the son of Donald E. and Margaret (Heffron) Allendorf. He was a graduate of Loras Academy, the class of 1955. Terry was united in marriage to Connie Hill on April 28, 1961, and after their divorce spent over 30 years with his girlfriend Elayne Lansing.

He was formerly employed by the Dubuque Packing Company as a successful Route Peddler, and later started his own company Tri-State Provisions in Hazel Green, WI retiring after many years of hard work and dedication. He also owned Tech-Deco and made clocks out of computer parts that he sold at craft fairs throughout the Midwest. He was the DubuqueFest organizer for several years.

Terry loved building and showing classic cars (Corvettes, Thunderbirds, and his prized Grand Champion Model A). He was a member of the Tri-State Antique Car Club where he had several lifelong friends. He loved the Thursday night car shows and spending time with his love Elayne. His FAVORITE thing however was mall walking with his BUDDIES and meeting his friends at the A&W to “solve the world’s problems”.  Besides his obvious good looks his humor was sharp and Dad kept us laughing until the end. He was an amazing caring Father.

Surviving are three children, Wende (Steve) Yonda, East Dubuque, Vicki (Todd Kershner) Allendorf of Dubuque, and Dean (Heidi) Allendorf of Bettendorf, IA; four grandchildren, Taylor (Jamie), Nick (Allison), Allison and Amanda (Trey); six-great grandchildren; his siblings, Donna (Robert) Wahlert, Lynda Harry, Molly (John) Jungk and Jan (David) Germain; his former wife Connie as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald & Margaret; two grandchildren, Zachary and Terry McPoland; his girlfriend, Elayne Lansing, and brother-in-law, Ted Harry.

Terry’s children wish to express a special thank you to Terry’s sister Jani “Podge” for all her help, love, care, and support although Dad always said all four sisters were his FAVORITE.   And also a special thanks to Dad’s BUDDIES who meant the world to him and held a special place in his life.
