John D. Weber, Jr.
John D. “Bronco” Weber, Jr., age 60, of Dubuque, IA, completed his earthly journey on October 3, 2021, at home, surrounded by his loving family. To honor John’s life, a private family service is being held. The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving John’s family.
John was born on October 7, 1960, in Dubuque, IA, a son to John Donald “Jack” and Germaine Eugenia (Oberbroeckling) Weber, Sr. John grew up with a zest for life and never missed the opportunity to see the best in each day. He spent a few of his younger years working at the Dubuque Pack, but after they closed, he eventually moved his time and talents into the family business, Jack’s Trucking and Moving. John finally found himself operating within the owner’s position in the 90’s and never looked back as his hard work was paying off. But, John knew that there was more to life than simply working too much. His presence at Lacoma Golf Course was a weekly occurrence and more of life’s issues were surely resolved there than they would ever be in the office. He also spent many relaxing hours being surrounded by his friends at the Moose Lodge. If John could find himself in a room with good friends, a cold beer, and hopefully a few Dallas Cowboy’s fan to boot, he would have to admit that he had found the perfect end to that day. He also enjoyed watching a little WWE Wrestling whenever possible, continually claiming that it was “the only sport on the up and up” to anyone that would listen. John also had an immeasurable soft-spot for his family and loved ones. If you were on John’s loved and adored list, you could be sure that he would regularly remind you that it was so. His grandchildren brought him the greatest joy, and his granddaughter, Breelyn, had a most special bond that not even his passing will be able to break. We will miss John, his love for life, his fun-loving spirit, and his desire to make the world a better place by simply being a better person within it. Thank you, John, for reminding us to live as we work, love as we grow, and to never surrender when the battle rages on. We will treasure every memory which you leave behind and may the Lord keep you safe in His loving arms until we meet again.
Those left behind to cherish the memory of John include,
his 2 children,
Jordan (Melissa) Weber, Asbury, IA,
and Gina Weber, Dubuque, IA;
his 3 grandchildren,
Breelyn Weber, Olivia Weber, and Griffin Weber;
his siblings,
Sandy (Steven) Rackis, Iowa City, IA,
and Johnathon (Sherry) McNitt, Arkansas;
his nephew,
Colin Rackis, Iowa City, IA;
along with numerous extended family, friends, and neighbors.
John was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and many aunts and uncles.
John’s family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Hospice of Dubuque for all of their professional and compassionate care and support. Also, a very heartfelt thank you to John’s Moose Lodge family. Your love, support, and encouragement have all delivered more peace into our difficult days that you could ever imagine. Thank you to all of you who stepped up and continually helped keep John’s spirits up by simply being you!

Al was born on April 20, 1927, the twelfth child of Leo H. and Rosa Berning Timmerman of Dickeyville, WI.
After graduating from St. Nazianz High School in St. Nazianz, WI and Loras College in 1948, Al worked for two years at Mound City Bank in Platteville, WI before cofounding Zephyr Aluminum Products in 1951, which he led until his retirement. On May 9,1953, he married the former Rose Eileen Check in Prairie du Chien, WI.
Growing up on a farm, Al learned the value of hard work and persistence at an early age. He used those lessons to build a successful business providing windows that are on scores of public, private and commercial buildings throughout Dubuque and the region. Al’s reputation as an ethical businessman earned him the respect of employees and customers alike, and his legacy continues in the business under the guidance of his sons and grandson.
As a boy, Al became a St. Louis Cardinals fan in a family of Cubs fans and remained a devoted lifelong fan. Al played a variety of sports as a young man but golf became his passion as an adult. He and Rose enjoyed playing in Dubuque in the summers and in warmer locales in the winters, eventually spending several months each winter on the Texas Gulf Coast where they made many friends among other “Winter Texans.” Al also enjoyed fishing, progressing from local tributaries to Minnesota lakes to remote Canadian spots accessible only by air or water. Al loved a good joke, relished the memories of well-played pranks, and was known to be a gentle tease to his dozens of nieces and nephews.
As Al was readying for retirement, he lost his sight. Unable to enjoy golf, he adapted to this change with remarkable grace. His player piano became the source of great joy as he accumulated hundreds of piano rolls, which he repaired and then played for family and friends, accompanying them in his strong, clear voice. He continued to enjoy playing cards, especially when there was a wager involved, teaching his grandchildren to play poker and starting a weekly game at Assisi Village. Al was a longtime member of the 3rd and 4th degree Knights of Columbus, the Serra Club and St. Joseph the Worker parish.
In his final days, Al made certain that his family knew he loved them and was proud of each of them. His strong faith and daily praying of the rosary were a great comfort to him as he prepared to leave this world.
In addition to his wife Rose, Al is survived by their children Anne (Robert) Zielinski of Jenkintown, PA; Dr. Mark (Julianne Noonan) Timmerman of Merrimack, NH; David (Kim Murdock) Timmerman of Dubuque; Kurt (Katy Schroeder) Timmerman of Towanda, IL; Paul (Suzi Martin) Timmerman of Altadena, CA; and Bruce Timmerman (Jennifer Juba) of Dubuque. Also surviving are grandchildren Abby (Jeffrey William) Brown, Alexander Zielinski, Andrea Zielinski, Laura Timmerman, Brian Timmerman, Sara (Aaron) Kellogg, Scott (Laura Davis) Timmerman, Megan (Jeffrey) Lackaff, and Joe (Arianna Dinelli) Timmerman, along with seven great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and in-laws Esther Stierman, Jean Check, and Ruth (Larry) French.
Al was predeceased by his siblings Neil (Viola and Elizabeth), Agnes (Bernard) Vaasen, Frances (Wilbur) Snyder, Vincent (Lillian), George (Irma and Molly), Cletus (Mary), Rita (Melvin) Jansen, Linus (Leila), Urban (Rosalyn), Joseph and Henry.
The family requests that donations in Al’s memory be made to Stonehill Franciscan Services or Hospice of Dubuque.

Raymond H. McDowell
Raymond H. “Ray” McDowell, age 81, of Edgewood, IA, passed away peacefully on Oct. 1, 2021, at the Edgewood Convalescent Home, surrounded by his loving family. To honor Ray’s life, a memorial service will be held on Friday, October 8, at 3 p.m., at the Silver Creek United Methodist Church, in Monti, IA. Family and friends may visit from 1 p.m., until the time of services at the church.
Ray was born on April 23, 1940, in Cedar Rapids, IA, the only child to Harry and Ida (Johnston) McDowell. Ray was united in marriage with Joyce Uptegraph on November 19, 1961, and they were blessed with 6 children and 60 wonderful years together. Ray worked for CRST as a diesel mechanic, was a contract custodian for GTE, and later managed an apartment complex with Joyce. Ray was naturally skilled at fixing anything he touched, and he enjoyed every hour spent tinkering around the house. He had an affinity for Dodge trucks, Polka music, and his dog Penny. Ray was a giant teddy bear at heart and his generosity was beyond measure with anyone who needed a hand. But, truth be told, Ray found no greater joy in his life than the hours spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His kind and gentle heart could never get enough when it came to being surrounded by those he loved and cared for. We will miss Ray with all of our hearts.
Those left behind to cherish the memory of Ray include,
his loving wife Joyce McDowell, Edgewood, IA;
his 6 children,
Shelley Gorsh, Mesa, AZ,
Dan (Chris) McDowell, Manchester, IA,
Brian McDowell, Dyersville, IA,
Gary (Pam) McDowell, Rowley, IA,
Amy (Mike) Shipley, Manchester, IA,
and Meri (Mike Spradley) Helmrichs, Centerville, IA;
his 17 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents; and a grandson, Dylan McDowell.
Ray’s family would like to thank all of the doctors, nurses, and staff who have helped Ray, and his family, through these most difficult days. Your professionalism and compassion are appreciated more than you could know.
