Daniel P. Burchfield

Daniel P. Burchfield, age 50, of Dubuque, IA, completed his earthly journey on April 6, 2022, at home while surrounded by his loving family.  To honor Daniel’s life, a Celebration BBQ will be held in June for his family and friends to gather in fellowship, food, and the memories which Daniel leaves behind.  The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Daniel’s family.

Daniel was born on June 5, 1971, in Abington, PA, a son to Patrick and Patsy (Johnson) Burchfield.  Daniel grew up with a love for family and friends being instilled firmly from a very young age.  He eventually made his way to Dubuque and after meeting his soul-mate, Carly Maskal, they were able to blend their families into one beautiful family and spend many wonderful years together.  His love and devotion for his wife, children, and grandchildren was continually on display for all to see.  In his early years, Daniel enjoyed working on cars and made a career out of it, but eventually his love for computers and technology drew him into the IT industry where he was able to invest almost 20 years perfecting his craft, with the last 5 years at the Molo Companies before his battle with cancer overtook his days.  Daniel was also a man who enjoyed his free-time and choose to use it wisely in all aspects of life.  His love for guitar and drums brought him many hours of joy, but you could also find him regularly practicing at the Dubuque Karate Club where he faithfully devoted his time and talents until his black belt was finally awarded with honor.  Daniel also enjoyed anytime he could spend with his family, with their home often full of children and camping trips being among their favorite activities together.  It’s with undeniably and tragically broken hearts that we must say farewell for now to our beloved Daniel.  His stubborn streak and sassy sense of humor fought as long and hard as they could, but the Lord has decided that He wanted Daniel with Him more than we needed Daniel with us.  In time we hope to understand this reality, but for now we will simply face the difficult days ahead with the abundance of wonderful memories he has left behind for us to treasure until we see his fun-loving smile once again.  Thank you, Daniel, for living life with a never surrender attitude and may peace from your earthly battles be yours, while prayers for strength and healing are ours.  We will love and miss you more than you could ever know!

Those left behind to cherish the memory of Daniel include,

his loving wife,
Carly Burchfield, Dubuque, IA;

his 6 adored children,
Daniel (Shampree Fritz) Burchfield, San Diego, CA,

John J. Plein

John J. Plein, age 78, of Dubuque, IA, completed his earthly journey on April 7, 2022, at Ennoble Nursing and Rehabilitation.  To honor John’s life, a private family service will be held at a later date.  The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving John’s family.

John was born on May 4, 1943, in Dubuque, IA, a son to Sylvester and Frances (Fah) Plein.  He eventually met and married his true love, JoAnne Carr, and the two enjoyed many years together and were blessed with one daughter before JoAnne was sadly called home ahead of him.  John was as diligent a worker as he was an outdoorsman.  He devoted many of his working hours helping those in need at Sunnycrest Manor before moving into the Walgreen’s cafeteria at the Kennedy Mall for a few years.  He also found a way to earn his pay while being outside with American Tree Service and Lyon’s Tree Service for some time.  John’s last employment before health issues became a difficult reality for him was with Midland Security where he proudly worked as a security guard until he could no longer manage his tasks at hand.  It was difficult to watch John move into a state of needing more medical care as he was always on the go.  Fishing and hunting were among his favorites, but anything he could find to spend time doing outside was always his favorite option for the day.  Even feeding the birds and animals was discovered to bring John all the contentment he needed.  When indoors, John was almost always going to be found sitting at his Hamm radio catching up with his friends across the globe.  He was a faithful member of the Great River Amateur Radio Club and enjoyed every opportunity to sit and visit with his fellow enthusiasts over breakfast at the Sunshine Restaurant.  We are going to miss John’s outgoing and lively personality in our lives moving forward, but are surely grateful for the memories which we will still continue to lean on through the difficult days ahead.  Thank you, John, for always being the man we needed you to be when you still could and may the Lord keep you safe and healthy in His loving arms until we see you again.

Those left behind to cherish the memory of John’s include,

his daughter,
Amy Plein, Platteville, WI;

his granddaughters,
Crystal Berning,
and Jessica Turtscher, both of Platteville, WI;

his brother,
Ronnie Plein, Cedar Rapids, IA;

along with numerous extended family, friends, and neighbors.

John was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, JoAnne Plein.

John’s family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Ennoble Manor and Hospice of Dubuque for all of their professional and compassionate care.

Online condolences may be shared with John’s family at www.tristatecremationcenter.com

Margaret M. Beaves

Margaret M. Beaves, 77, of East Dubuque died Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at her home in East Dubuque.

Visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm Sunday, April 24, 2022, at Lacoma Golf Club, bright colors are encouraged to be worn at her services.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Margaret will be 10:30 am Monday, April 25, 2022 at St. Columbkille Catholic Church with Father Thomas McDermott as the Celebrant.

Margaret was born December 8, 1944 in Dubuque, the daughter of Joseph and Margaret (Lucas) Smith. On November 20, 1965 she married Peter D. Beaves in St. Columbkille’s Church. He died May 17, 2021.

Margaret met Peter while she was attending Clark College and working at Marco’s. She married and built the foundation for the life of which we were all blessed to be a part. She loved being a mom and was the type to take a cake decorating class so she could create elaborate character cakes for her kids. She was the mom that made homemade Halloween costumes every year and expertly decorated for every holiday. She taught her children to celebrate life and to love wholeheartedly. Life was to be enjoyed with exuberance, a dash of extravagance and to embrace the experience. This was why she was fondly known as the ‘fun aunt’ and for 2 decades maintained the ‘fun house’ on Cortez Drive.

As much as she enjoyed being a mom, it paled in comparison to her absolute joy at being a grandmother. Whether she was celebrating a holiday at home or traveling abroad, she was happiest surrounded by her eleven grandkids. Margaret always saw the best in them and encouraged them to not sweat the small stuff. She was beloved by them.

Margaret greatly enjoyed hosting her bridge and tennis friends and was a hostess extraordinaire. She would set the most glamorous table to make each guest feel special. A decadent dessert was a must! She never missed an opportunity to be gracious and kind. She was an outstanding cook, sustaining the Beaves tradition of planning the next meal while consuming the current one! Margaret’s sunny positivity and pleasant disposition never wavered so her zest for life will be missed by all.

Thank you to all the friends, family and cousins who came to visit Margaret. All the lunches, cards and reminiscing gave her such joy and peace. Much gratitude goes to her amazing caregivers; you are all awesome and will be missed. Special thanks to Cindy Hanley, David & Carter Beaves Lewis, and Johanna Beaves.

Survivors include her children; Jim & Amy Beaves of East Dubuque, Sarah & David Beaves Lewis of Pecatonica, IL, Catherine & Robert Capponi of Loves Park, IL, Martha Beaves & husband Steve Petersen of Portland, OR and by her grandchildren; Lucas, Johanna, Ava, Addison Beaves; Carter, Peter, Harrison, Ashton Beaves Lewis; Ben, Reed and Elise Petersen. Also survived by siblings Joe & Sue Smith, Bob & Lexi Smith and her very dear sister Kathy Smith; in addition to many nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents and siblings; Joseph & Margaret Smith, Tom & Judi Smith, Patricia Bernhard; in-laws, George and Ludwina Beaves, Mary Ellen & Jim Kadra, Richard & Gerry Beaves, Theodore & Eileen Beaves, Charlotte & William Hanley, George & Dorothy Beaves and Jack & Veronica Murphy.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to Hospice of Dubuque.

Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home and Crematory is in care of the arrangements.

Condolences sent to the family by visiting Margaret’s obituary at www.hskfhcares.com.
