For those who knew Rita, you knew that she loved to be busy, she was a social butterfly. She enjoyed shopping, especially when she was finding a great deal. Her home was a home to many, all were welcome. She loved to entertain, from pool days to the holiday gatherings, especially Christmas which consisted of not only her immediate family but her extended family. To Rita all were her immediate family. Rita had a great love not only for her children and grandchildren, but also for her nieces and nephews.

She had a heart of gold, so many were blessed to have her in their life. Rita touched the lives of many and the memories she left behind will forever be cherished in our hearts.

Dylan graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 2020 and continued his education at NICC, completing the John Deere Ag Tech program in 2022. Most recently, he joined the plumbing apprenticeship and worked alongside his dad for the family business, CR Total Plumbing.

Dylan had the biggest, kindest heart that he shared with us through his contagious smile. He had an infectious giggle that typically followed a funny story (many that we are hearing recently). He was hard-working, dependable, and determined. There was never a job he was afraid to tackle. He was always there wanting to help. You rarely had to ask him, but if you did, he replied with a “YUP.”

Dylan could fix anything. He had a love for rebuilding trucks, tractors, dirt bikes and jet skis to sell for the next big project. He enjoyed fish frys and pool matches with his buddies that sometimes ended up profitable. He was continuously on the hunt for the best pork tenderloin sandwich.

He was a loving older brother to Owen and Griffin and adored his naughty dog, Moose. He touched countless hearts, and the memories he created will be treasured forever.

He is survived by his parents, Cory and Tiffany Ranson, his siblings, Owen and Griffin Ranson, Grandma Diane (Dondlinger) Ranson, Grandma Shannon (Riniker) Felderman, Grandpa David Felderman, Great-Grandma Doris (Budde) Felderman, as well as several aunts, uncles, and cousins who adored him!

Matthew F. Nebel

Matthew Francis Nebel, 43, of Englewood, CO (formerly Dubuque, IA) passed away Wednesday April 30, 2025.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 10th, 2025, at the Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Funeral Home (2659 John F. Kennedy Rd) from 10 – 11:30am, with a memorial service to follow at 11:30am.

Matt was born on November 21, 1981 in Dubuque, the son of Al “Everybody’s Pal” and Deborah “it’s pronounced De-BORE-uh” (Jirak) Nebel. After graduating from Dubuque Hempstead High School in 2000, Matt worked as a machinist for the BNSF Railroad for over 20 years.

In 2012, he married the love of his life, Colleen (Anderson) of Dubuque, and began their life together traveling the world, exploring the outdoors, and raising three outstanding dogs: Lilacs, Orion, and Lola.

Matt worked hard to establish a reputation of humorous mischief, before eventually moving on to a simpler life of responsible silliness: one filled with laughter, occasional hijinks, and an overabundance of kindness. His smile and infectious laugh lit up every room he entered, and “Everybody loves Matt!” became a longstanding family motto. He made friends quickly, anywhere and everywhere he went, with a gregarious spirit that was unmatched.

From demolition derby cars to diesel engines and custom golf clubs: Matt could build, fix, re-engineer, and improve almost anything he got his hands on. His mind was brilliant, and his handiwork was the expression of that brilliance.

Matt loved riding his Harley, snowboarding, scuba-diving, adventuring through the Rocky Mountains, and bicycling around the world with his wife Colleen; playing Xbox with his sister; Goodwill hunting with his mom; and having daily conversations with his dad using only the words “potato-head” and “fathead”.

There are not enough words to express the love felt for Matt, but there are three words (his own) that might come close: “Matt Nebel Rules”.

He is survived by his loving wife Colleen, father Al, mother Debbie, sister Erin, mother-in-law Laurie Anderson, father-in-law Dick Anderson, brothers-in-law Kirk Anderson and Rich Rosario, sister-in-law Adela Anderson, and an untold number of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by mother-in-law Jeanette Anderson, paternal grandparents Francis and LouAnn Nebel, maternal grandparents Arnold and Rita Jirak, uncles Dennis Nebel, Keith Jirak, and Kevin Jirak, aunt Shelly Jirak, and beloved fur-baby Lilacs.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to: Aspen Camp for the Deaf (https://aspencamp.org/) or The Listen Foundation (https://www.listenfoundation.org).

Peter T. Woegens

Peter T. Woegens, age 90, of Dubuque, IA, formerly of Sarasota, FL and Manhattan, N.Y., completed his earthly journey on May 2, 2025, at Luther Manor in Dubuque.  To honor Peter’s life, a private family service is being held.  Burial will be in the Sarasota National Cemetery in Sarasota, FL.  The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Peter’s family.

Peter was born on July 9, 1934, in New York, N.Y., a son to Peter and Minna (Arfsten) Woegens. He was a good and decent man who faced the world head-on with one very strategic and simple motto; do right by him and he would do right by you in return.  He grew up in New York and learned many important life lessons before entering adulthood.  His years working at the family deli helped to instill the value of an honest days work.  He eventually made his way into the U.S. Army where he honorable served his country.  Upon returning to civilian life, Peter began his career with the Manhattan Fire Department.  He made countless friends during his time there and served his community with pride.

Peter had met and married the love of his life, Marie Whelan, and the two were blessed with many years together and a daughter of their own to love and nurture.  Sadly, Marie faced a longtime battle with MS and Peter was right by her side until the very end with the love and devotion of a husband, friend and partner in the truest sense of the words.  Peter eventually moved to Florida after he retired and diligently invested innumerable hours perfecting his golf game.  He enjoyed the relaxing environment, the challenge, and the warm sun overhead each time he hit the course.

Peter was well-known as a generous man, kind soul, and straight shooter.  If you were fortunate enough to make it into his inner circle, his loyalty was unwavering.  But, for those who knew Peter best, family was his pride and joy.  He played each role that presented itself with dignity and joy, only discovering just how good life could be when grandchildren made their way into his life.  It’s a truly heart-breaking day that has arrived with Peter’s absence now.  The world will never be the same, but we are forever grateful for the love, lessons, and memories he so willingly shared with everyone who ventured into his life.  Thank you, Peter, for being the best you anyone could ask for and may the Lord bless and keep you safe in His loving and grace-filled arms now until we meet again.

Those left behind to cherish the memory of Peter include,

his loving daughter,
Renee Mauer, Dubuque, IA;

his three adored grandchildren,
Tara Mauer, Dubuque, IA,
Zachary Mauer, Dubuque, IA,
and Michael Plumtree, Dubuque, IA;

his great-granddaughter,
Aubrey Plumtree, Dubuque, IA;

former son-in-law,
T.J. Mauer, Dubuque, IA;

along with numerous extended family, friends, and neighbors.

Peter was preceded in death by his parents; his beautiful bride, Marie Woegens; and his sister, Ida Trembeck.

Peter’s family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Luther Manor and Hospice of Dubuque for all of their professional and compassionate care.

Online condolences may be shared with Peter’s family at www.tristatecremationcenter.com

Janet Rhomberg

Janet Rhomberg, 94, of Dubuque, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2025 at Stonehill Care Center.

Visitation will be 4-8 pm on Friday, May 9, 2025 at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church.  Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30am, Saturday, May 10, 2025 at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church with Rev. Brian Dellaert officiating. A link of the funeral mass livestream can be found at www.egelhofsiegertcasper.com. A Christian burial at Mount Calvary Cemetery will follow.

If laughter is the best medicine, Janet was our lifelong pharmacist. She was a legendary “joy-spreader” who always smiled, said something witty, or pulled something funny out of her pocket. She thrived on turning any gathering into a memorable celebration and her sunny disposition was epitomized by her trademark balloons and clowns. She made every person she met feel important because they were, to her.

When COVID curtailed social outings, she became a crossword puzzle enthusiast and a passionate Scrabble player. She enjoyed playing up to three Scrabble games per day and her competitiveness shone through her playful banter during games. In earlier years, she enjoyed golf, tennis, baking, singing, gardening, playing cards, and watching her children compete in sports. Her deep love of music, was the heartbeat of her soul and her piano playing soulmate, Roger. They enjoyed many a sing-a-longs with family and friends!

Of utmost importance to Janet was her Catholic faith from which she drew strength to give of herself immensely, for the wellbeing of others. She was an active volunteer around Dubuque and she generously supported local and international organizations that served the most vulnerable. “Leave the world a better place than you found it” was clearly her legacy.

Janet was preceded in death by her husband Roger Rhomberg, her parents Josephine and Titus Schmid, and her six siblings, Tom, Mary, John, Jim, Bill, and Jeanne. She is survived by her sister-in-law Mary Schmid, and seven children, Mark (Marian Buzga) Rhomberg, Sue Rhomberg, Jim (Nancy) Rhomberg, Ann Rhomberg, Peter (Cid) Rhomberg, Roger (Cathy) Rhomberg, Ellen (Michael) Griffin, thirteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Crescent Community Health Center, St Joseph the Worker Parish, and the Stonehill Communities.

The Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Funeral Home and Crematory is entrusted with arrangements.

Glenn W. Hines

Glenn W. “Cappy” Hines, age 61, of Guttenberg, IA, completed his earthly journey on May 6, 2025, at home while surrounded by his loving family and friends.  To honor Cappy’s life, a Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00-4:00 p.m., on Sunday, May 11, 2025, at the Guttenberg Marina Center near landing 615.  The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Cappy’s family.

Cappy was born on September 19, 1963, in Oskaloosa, IA, a son to Donald L. and Shirley Ann (Cole) Hines.  He was a quiet and reserved man at his core and valued the simple life of country living much more than the hustle and bustle many choose to chase.  He was a heavy equipment operator by trade, but did venture into the logging industry for a time.  Cappy wasn’t afraid of an honest days work and always knew that his intrinsic strong work ethic would surely carry him through every adventure he embraced.

Cappy eventually met the love of his life, Linda Kay Sadewasser, and the two were united in marriage on November 2, 1991.  They appreciated many of the same things in daily life and were blessed with many wonderful years together making their mark together on the world around them.

Cappy understood quite clearly that life required balance in order to be a fulfilling journey.  You could often find him out navigating the farm looking for the next arrowhead to add to his collection, or getting a little hunting and fishing in when time allowed.  Each day was an opportunity to enjoy the goodness of God’s creation and Cappy never took a day for granted.  We are going to miss his fun loving nature and interesting conversations indeed, but we are forever grateful for the chance to meet and love Cappy while it lasted.  Thank you, Cappy for keeping life uncomplicated and true for those who knew and loved you and may the Lord grant you the peace you deserve after your long and courageous battle with cancer here on earth.
