Steven J. Seippel

Steven J. Seippel, 53, of Dubuque, Iowa passed away peacefully on March 31 at MercyOne Medical Center, surrounded by family.

Steve was born on October 22, 1971 in Arizona the son of Peter Seippel and Patricia Kammerude.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sara Seippel; his children, Haley Seippel, Alyssa Seippel, Austin Howard (Emily), Kaitlyn Howard (Hampton); and his father, Pete Seippel (Cathie). He is also remembered by his nephew, Nick Fischer (Ariel); his niece, Samantha Seippel; and his grandchildren, Rory Jo, Wells Michael and grandson due June 2nd.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia, sister Cathie and nephew Brandon.

If a life is measured by how many it touches around it, then Steve had the longest most memorable life there was to have. He was always looking for someone to be of service to and never once turned down someone asking for help. He was one of the rare larger than life people that became the gravity in a room full of people, whether it be making people laugh, telling a good hunting story, or his booming voice he was going to make you smile (or cringe depending on the joke and how many times he already told the story).

He was above all dedicated to his family, and to Steve it didn’t take much to be family. His life was a lesson for an open heart. His memory will not soon be forgotten by all the minds he lives in.

His family would like to say a very big thank you to the nursing staff at MercyOne who took exceptional care of him on his final days and the first responders who transported him to the hospital.

William L. Rich

William L. “Bill” Rich, 81, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday afternoon, April 2, 2025, at his home in Delhi, Iowa.

William Lewis Rich was born on August 16, 1943 in Webb City, Missouri, to William Henry and Elizabeth “Liz” (Powell) Rich.  Bill graduated from Webb City High School and went on to serve his country with distinction in the U.S. Air Force. After receiving an honorable discharge, he returned to civilian life and married the love of his life, Sandra Jean Gleason Manderscheid, on May 6, 1977, in Maquoketa, Iowa.

Professionally, Bill was a dedicated employee at Northwestern Bell in Clinton and later Maquoketa. 1n 1982, he purchased B & E Machine Company in Clinton, Iowa, where he proudly took on the role of the second-generation owner. He retired in 2006, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and commitment to his employees and community.

His interests were grounded in the simple pleasures of life. He had a passion for camping and could often be found splitting wood, a testament to his love for the outdoors. Golf was another of his favorite pastimes, as well as watching war movies, on television.  However, the centerpiece of Bill’s life was undoubtedly his family. He took immense pride in following the lives of his grandchildren, celebrating their achievements and supporting them through every stage of life

Those left to honor his memory include his children, Jeff (Debbie) Manderscheid of Maquoketa, IA, Craig (Pam) Manderscheid of Zwingle, IA, Christie Manderscheid of Dubuque, IA, Jodi (Adam) Watters of Mesa, AZ, Bill J. Rich of Maquoketa, IA, Lisa (Bubba Creasy) Rich of Valdosta, GA, and Jennifer Rich of Augusta, GA; 14 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren; sister, Barbara Dorman of TX; and his special dog Duke.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Sandra on April 3, 2022, a son Mike, and a brother Michael “Mike” Rich.

A celebration of his life will be held at 2 P.M., Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa.  Visitation will be held prior to the funeral from 11 A.M. to 2 P.M. at the funeral home.  Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Maquoketa, Iowa.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a William L. “Bill” Rich memorial fund has been established.

Thomas M. Gockel

Thomas M. “Tom” Gockel, 86, of East Dubuque, IL, formerly of LaMotte, IA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 30, 2025, at Ahva Living Center in East Dubuque.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 7, 2025, at St. Mary’s Church in East Dubuque, with Fr. Edilberto Jarapa officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Dubuque, IA, where military honors will be accorded by members of the Dubuque Marine Corps League.

Family and friends may call from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 6, 2025, and from 9:15 – 10:00 a.m. on Monday at the Miller Funeral Home in East Dubuque, where the parish scripture service will be said at 12:30 p.m. Sunday.

Tom was born on October 8, 1938, in Dubuque, the son of Celestine J. and Theresa C. (Adams) Gockel. He was a graduate of St. Columbkille’s High School and was member of the U.S Air Force from 1958-1962 stationed in Crete, Greece.

He was united in marriage to Patricia Ann Bennet on October 10, 1964, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dubuque. They moved to East Dubuque in 1969 and raised four children.

Tom was employed as a truck driver for Flynn Ready Mix until his retirement and was a proud member of General Driver’s Local 421.

Tom enjoyed gardening, playing horseshoes and euchre, but most of all he loved watching his Green Bay Packers with his family and friends.

Those left to cherish his memory include Lori (Randy) Hancock, Steve (Kim) Gockel, Chris (Joanne) Gockel, daughter-in-law Keri Gockel, 9-grandchildren; and a brother, David (Joanne) Gockel. He was preceded in death by wife Patricia and son Brian Gockel.

Lynn M. Carr

Lynn M. Carr, 56, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, passed away on Sunday, March 30, 2025.

Friends and family may visit from 9:00 a.m.to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at Sacred Heart Filmore Catholic Church.

Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, is assisting the family.

Lynn was born on November 29, 1968, in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of Gerald John and Margaret Ann (Dolphin) Carr.

Lynn earned both her Bachelor of Architecture and Bachelor of Religious Studies from Iowa State University. Throughout her life, she faced numerous health challenges with resilience. After a courageous nine-year battle, she lost her life to breast cancer. Her beloved dog, Teddy, was a source of immense joy, comfort, and companionship during her journey.

Lynn cherished her family, especially her nieces and nephews, and had a generous heart that touched everyone around her. A dedicated environmentalist long before it became mainstream, she championed sustainability throughout her adult life. She had a deep love for travel, always eager to explore new places, foods, and cultures. An exceptional bread maker and a devoted chai tea latte enthusiast, Lynn will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Lynn is survived by her sister Lisa M. Carr, brother Kevin (Kelly) Carr, nieces and nephews Kristal Kruse, Kenneth Carr, Jerry Carr, Kristin Carr, and Jake Griffin, aunts and uncles Janet Dolphin, Patricia Schuster, Jean (Edward) Carr, Dennis (Maxine) Dophin, Margaret (Robert) Schlarmann, Michelle (Michael) Manternack, and numerous cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents Gerald and Margaret, her brother Lennon Carr, grandparents LeRoy & Laverne Dolphin and William & Marguerite (Carlson) Carr, her great aunt Evelyn Coohey, and aunts and uncles Elizabeth (Patrick) Rogers, James (Sharon) Carr, Thomas Dolphin, and Edward Dolphin.

Mary M. Kane

Mary Margaret (Marge) Kane, 90, of Dubuque, passed away on April 1, 2025 at Stonehill Care Center, with her family.

Visitation will be from 9-10:30a.m., Tuesday, April 8, 2025 at the Church of the Resurrection. Marge was born on March 18, 1935 in St. Lucas, IA to Arnold and Florence (Tallman) Kuennen.

Marge attended Immaculate Conception High School, of Dubuque, graduating in 1953.

She was united in marriage to James T.  Kane, the love of her life, on June 2, 1956, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Dubuque. He preceded her in death on February 4, 2021.

Marge was an active member of the Church of the Resurrection for many years.

In her free time, she enjoyed playing Bridge.

Marge is survived by her children, Brian J. (Kathleen) Kane, Shaun (Julie) Kane, Kelley (Ward) Symons, Michael (Suzanne Bruhn) Kane and Timothy J. (Carol) Kane; 23 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, Aileen Klinck and Russ Kuennen and husband, Jim.

Marge’s family wishes to extend a special thank you to Stonehill Care Center and Hospice of Dubuque for the wonderful care given to Marge. Your kindness and compassion will not be forgotten.

Thomas Priebe Sr.

Thomas Priebe Sr., 76, of Dubuque, Iowa peacefully passed away April 1, 2025, at home surrounded by his family after a lengthy battle of cancer from agent orange.

Visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm Friday, April 4, 2025 at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home & Crematory. Members of the East Dubuque Fire Department will meet in a group at 6:00 pm Friday at the funeral home.

The Funeral Service for Tom will be 10:00 am Saturday, April 5, 2025, at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home & Crematory with Pastor Charles Tharp officiating.  Burial will be in Rockdale Cemetery in Dubuque.  Full military honors will be rendered by the American Legion Post #6 and the Iowa Army National Guard.

Tom was born April 11, 1948, the son of Charles Max and Gladys Delaney Priebe. On August 26, 2000, he married Judy Kramer Rowley at Immanuel United Church of Christ in Dubuque.

He was a U.S. Veteran serving as Sergeant in the Army, 2nd Infantry Division and retired from the Navy as Petty Officer 1st Class.

Tom retired from the Dubuque Packing Company and Laborers Local 32 in Rockford, IL. He also worked part time for the Rockford Park District, Dubuque Park District, and was a retired volunteer from the East Dubuque Fire Department. Tom was a member of DAV, American Legion, and VFW.

Tom had a great sense of humor and a love for his family and friends.

To all the people at the Veterans Freedom Center, especially the pool players, you guys kept me going. Don’t forget the FREEBIE SHOT!

Tom enjoyed traveling the country with his wife Judy and brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Sandy, spending time with family and talking about his time spent in the Army and Navy to anyone who would listen.

Surviving Tom is his wife of 25 years, Judy; three sons, Grover (Tracy) Priebe of East Dubuque, Thomas (Melissa) Priebe Jr. of Dubuque, and Jeff (Teri) Rowley of Dubuque; one daughter, Julie (Travis) Wiebke of Mason City; one sister, Pam Gagne of Dubuque; sisters-in-law, Mary Kay (John) Casper of Mission Viejo, CA, and Sandy (Mike) Kapparos, Pam Priebe, and Linda (Terry) Wiedemann, all of Dubuque; one brother-in-law, Bill (Cheryl) Kramer of Dubuque; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Joan Peil, two brothers, Ron and Charles Priebe, one grandson, Alex Wiebke, brothers-in-law, Tom McEmeel and Don Gagne, and one sister-in-law, Connie Priebe.

The family would like to thank Dr. Mark Hermann, Tony Heiar and their staff, Mayo Clinic, and the Finley infusion nurses. The family also extends a special thank you to Hospice of Dubuque for all the help, support, and guidance they offered.

Louis C. Patcle

Louis C. Patcle, age 79, of Potosi, Wisconsin, passed away on Monday, March 31, 2025, at Grant Regional Health Center surrounded by family. He was born November 18, 1945, the son of John L. Patcle Sr. and Luella E. (Leeser) in Potosi, Wisconsin. Louis graduated from Cassville High School in 1963. Louis graciously served in the United States Navy from November of 1966 until November of 1968, serving in the reserves before going on active duty. On September 28, 2005, he was married to the love of his life, Yolonda K. Dietrich. Louis worked for Wisconsin Power and Light Company from 1970 until his retirement in 2007, dedicating 37 years. Louis enjoyed having coffee at The Potosi Yacht Club until it closed, and then Scooter’s Midway. He loved his trips out west and riding his Harley, but the most important part of his life was his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Yolonda; children: Tamie Patcle, Kimberly (Andy) Marinelli, and Charles (Katie) Hurt; step-sons: Steven (Lori) Staver and John Staver; loving grandchildren: Hunter (Owen) Kisting, Chloe (Luke) Hurt, Ella (Joe) Gutknecht, Lexi Marinelli, Melissa Staver, Brooklyn Marinelli, Cashton Hurt, Caplan Hurt, of Wisconsin, and Colorado Kircher and Reiley Abbas-Staver of Reno, Nevada.

In addition to his parents, Louis is preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Dorothea (Carl) Blindert; father-in-law, LeRoy Dietrich; and sister-in-law, Linda Dietrich.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church in Cassville. Burial with military honors will be held in the St. Charles Cemetery. Family and Friends may visit on Saturday, April 5, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church. A parish rosary will be held at 9:45 a.m. at the church. Sister Diane Kennedy, OP  

Sinsinawa Dominican Sister Diane Kennedy, OP, 91, died March 30, 2025, at St. Dominic Villa, Hazel Green, Wis. The Mass of Resurrection celebrating her life will be held at Dominican University’s Rosary Chapel, River Forest, Ill., Sat., April 5 at 1:00 p.m.with the Rev. Charles Bouchard, OP, officiating. The Mass will be livestreamed at dom.zoom.us/j/94312348417. A visitation will also be held there Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Interment will take place April 7 at St. Clara Cemetery, Sinsinawa, Wis. Miller Funeral Home of East Dubuque, IL is handling arrangements.     

    She was born March 16, 1934, to Malcolm and Catherine (O’Brien) Kennedy in Oak Park, Ill. She made profession with the Dominican Sisters of Sinsinawa in 1957 and received the religious name Sister Mary Alana. She earned her BA in English from Rosary College, River Forest, Ill.; an MA in English from the University of Notre Dame, Ind.; an MA in theology from Aquinas Institute of Theology, Dubuque, Ia.; and a D. Min. in ministry from Pacific School of Religion, Berkeley, Calif.        

    Sister Diane’s ministry was dedicated to teaching, preaching, and administration. She taught at Edgewood High School, Madison, Wis., and then served the Sinsinawa Dominican Congregation as director of initial formation. She later served as vicaress of the Sinsinawa Dominican Congregation; as executive director of the Parable Conference for Dominican Life and Mission; as director of ministry at St. Paul Seminary, St. Paul, Minn.; as academic dean at Aquinas Institute of Theology, St. Louis, Mo.; and served as associate provost and was the first vice president for mission and ministry at Dominican University. Sister Diane concluded her public ministry as promoter for the Cause of Venerable Samuel Mazzuchelli, OP.     

Sister Diane was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother, James; and a sister, Mary Patricia Donahue. She is survived by a sister, Jane (Tom) Gelinas; numerous nieces and nephews; many friends; and her Dominican Sisters with whom she shared life for 68 years. Thomas D. Elkins

Thomas D. “Tom” Elkins, 64, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 31, 2025, at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, Iowa.

Thomas Dean Elkins was born on June 20, 1960 in Maquoketa, Iowa, to Howard James and Lois LaVonne (Clark) Elkins.  He grew up in Maquoketa and was a 1978 graduate of Maquoketa High School.  On January 20, 1979, he married Dixie Wohlgamuth in Andrew, Iowa, and together they welcomed three sons: Mike, Adam, and Justin. Although Tom and Dixie later divorced, their shared love for their children remained constant.  In 2003, Tom’s heart found its match in LuAnn Carlson Schepers, and they married on his birthday at the picturesque Mississippi Palisades State Park in Savanna, Illinois.

Tom’s professional life was a testament to his skill and dedication. He began his career as a mechanic at Kirk and Otting in Maquoketa, followed by a tenure at Ed Morse Ford in DeWitt. He ultimately spent many years at Rasmussen Motor Company/Brad Deery Motors in Maquoketa, where his expertise and work ethic were highly valued.

Beyond his work, Tom had a passion for working on cars that extended into his personal life. He was also an avid train enthusiast, often found watching the locomotives chug by, lost in thought about the intricate mechanics that powered them. Tom’s curiosity about how things worked was a defining trait, one that he passed on to his children and grandchildren.  Hunting was another of Tom’s pursuits, however, it was the time spent with his family that truly filled his heart.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife LuAnn Elkins of Maquoketa, IA; children, Mike (Alycia) Elkins of Tiffin, IA, Adam Elkins of Ottumwa, IA, and Justin (Anna) Elkins of Rochester, MN; stepchildren, Brian (Bethany Sams) Schepers of Maquoketa, IA, and Matt (Kaitlin) Schepers of Bettendorf, IA; 10 grandchildren; and siblings, Evelyn (Dave) Miller of MO, Nancy (Al) Muhlhausen of Maquoketa, IA, James “Jim” Elkins of Maquoketa, IA, and John (Joey) Elkins of Maquoketa, IA.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and dogs Roscoe and Jackson.

A gathering of family and friends celebrating his life will be held from 4 to 7 P.M., Monday, April 7, 2025, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa.  Cremation rites have been accorded.

Edwin J. Stoltz

Edwin J. “Ed” Stoltz, age 82, of Eldridge, IA, formerly of Dubuque, IA, completed his earthly journey on March 30, 2025, at the Good Samaritan Home in Davenport, IA, while surrounded by his loving family.  To honor Ed’s life, a memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at the Faith Lutheran Church, 500 West LeClaire Road, Eldridge, IA, with Pastor Carrie L. Lewis La Plante officiating.  Family and friends of Ed’s are invited to join in fellowship from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. prior to the service at the church.  Full military honors will be accorded by the VFW following the service at the church. Family and friends are also invited to join in food and fellowship following the services at the church.  The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Ed’s family.

Ed was born on September 10, 1942, in Dubuque, IA, a son to Edward and Alfrieda (Kass) Stoltz.  He was blessed with a kind and gentle soul and spent his years generously sharing it wherever he could in the world around him.  At the age of 18, Ed joined the U.S. Navy and went on to honorably serve his country from 1960-1963.  Upon his return stateside, Ed was eventually united in marriage to the love of his life, Kathy Boelk, on February 15, 1964.  The couple was blessed with 61 years together and two children of their own to love and nurture along the way.  Ed invested his working career with the John Deere Dubuque Works primarily and made countless friends along the way.  He always took great pride in his work and moved into retirement effortlessly as he understood that he had performed his tasks to the best of his abilities and it was now time to rest from his labors.

In his free-time, Ed discovered many joys which brought real satisfaction in his life.  You could regularly catch him keeping in shape at the YMCA, but it was also just as common to find him tending to their flower gardens at home. Ed had the distinct pleasure of running in four marathons, two ultra marathons, and multiple half marathons over the years.  His devotion was undeniable and he faithfully put in all the work necessary to complete the goals at hand.  When the responsibilities of the day were done, Ed was quite content to grab his most recent book and get comfortable in his recliner.  He was always up for a good movie or a little tv time as well with his beautiful bride by his side.  Ed also appreciated a little music in the background whenever possible.  The minor moments which we tend to take for granted were the moments where Ed found peace and ultimate joy in his daily life.  Those who knew Ed best were always quite aware that his greatest joy was to be found when his grandkids were nearby.  It’s difficult to imagine a world without our patriarch leading the way, not only by example, but in words, thoughts, and actions as well.  The legacy which he leaves behind will thankfully be evident in the generations he leaves behind now.  Thank you, Ed, for living the righteous life of a good and decent man throughout your 82 years among us.  May the Lord grant you everlasting love and mercy now as we wait patiently to see your wonderful smile once again.  Well done good and faithful Servant!

Sr. Nancy Frommelt

Sister Nancy (Martina) Frommelt passed away at Clare House on March 31, 2025, at 5:30 p.m.  The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Clare House Chapel, Mount St. Francis Center at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, followed by burial at the Sisters of St. Francis natural burial site. Sister was born on November 16, 1938, in Dubuque, Iowa, to Arthur and Dorothy (Link) Frommelt

Nancy entered the Sisters of St. Francis September 3, 1957, and made final profession of vows August 12, 1963. Sister received her MA from the University of Iowa, Iowa City, IA and her MS from University of Houston, TX. She ministered in Iowa at Remsen, Oyens, Bancroft, and Dubuque; in Illinois at St. John Brebeuf, Niles; in Texas at Houston; in New Jersey at East Orange, Newark, and Elizabeth; and in Pennsylvania at Wallingford, Fairfield, Secane, and Chester.

Sister is survived by her sisters, Sister Sally Frommelt OSF and Linda Pickus; brothers, Fred and Joe (Debra) Frommelt; nieces and nephews, and her Franciscan sisters.

Sister was preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law Les Pickus.

Gary M. Burkey

Gary M. Burkey, 61, of Anamosa, and formerly of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away on Sunday morning, March 30, 2025, at the Anamosa Care Center in Anamosa, Iowa.

Gary Marvin Burkey was born on August 16, 1963, in Maquoketa, Iowa, to Galen and Arlene (Folkers) Burkey.  He grew up in Maquoketa and was a 1983 graduate of Maquoketa Community High School.  After high school, he began working at Hide Co. in Maquoketa, and later, he contributed his talents to the Maquoketa Sentinel Press. His career was cut short in 1994 due to a motorcycle accident, but this did not diminish his spirit or his ability to touch the lives of those around him.

Those who knew Gary will remember him as a thoughtful and caring individual. He demonstrated his love for his family in countless ways, including the special tradition of taking his mother to lunch every day after his father’s passing. His devotion to family was also evident in the joy he found in supporting and spending time with his nieces and nephews.

Gary was an avid fan of NASCAR, and his loyalty extended to his favorite sports teams, the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Green Bay Packers.  In addition to his love for sports, Gary also had a fondness for his jeep.

Those left to honor his memory include siblings, Ron Burkey of Anamosa, IA, Mike Burkey of Wyoming, IA, Eileen (Steve) Orcutt of Anamosa, IA, Brenda (Dan) Seeley of Anamosa, IA, and Angela Kennedy of Anamosa, IA; sister-in-law, Diane Burkey of Baldwin, IA; and nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers John, Thomas and Larry Burkey, sister Gail Clary, and brothers-in-law, Phil Clary and Bob Kennedy.

A celebration of his life will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, April 5, 2025, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa.  Visitation will be held prior to the service from 9:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. at the funeral home.  Burial will be at the Buckhorn Cemetery, rural Maquoketa, Iowa.

Joan A. McCarron

Joan Ann (Ressler) McCarron, 88, of Dubuque, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Hawkeye Care Center in Asbury, Iowa.

Friends and family may visit from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Dubuque.

Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the church with Rev. Mark Ressler officiating. Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, is assisting the family.

Joan was the first of five children, born on July 26, 1936, 1936, to Jacob and Marie (Klocker) Ressler at the family farm in Worthington, Iowa. She graduated from the Visitation Academy, class of 1955, in Dubuque. She married Jon “Jim” McCarron on October 30, 1965, at St. Columbkille’s Church in Dubuque.

Joan led an active social life with many friends and adored her family. She was extremely generous and loved hosting gatherings and being social. She had a deep love for the outdoors and stayed physically active throughout her life, especially as a dedicated cyclist. Over the years, she worked at many restaurants in town and retired from the Dubuque Community School Lunch Program.

Joan is survived by her husband, Jim McCarron, her twin daughters Bridget and Kathleen McCarron, her grandchildren Margaret and James Yapp, Jack Murphy, and Grace McCarron, her two sisters Margaret Delaney of Dubuque and Janet Clemens of Dyersville, Iowa, and many nieces and nephews.
Joan is preceded in death by her parents Jacob and Marie Ressler, two brothers John and Michael Ressler, her in-laws Harold and Helene McCarron, sister-and-brother-in-law Mary Ellen and William Billington, nephew Richard Clemens, sister-in-law Ginny Ressler, and brother-in-laws Donald Delaney, and David Clemens.

The family would like to thank the Hospice of Dubuque and the Hawkeye Care Center for their kindness and exceptional care.

Rita M. Helmer

Rita M. Helmer, 99, of Dubuque, died Sunday, March 30, 2025, at the Sunset Park Place Senior Living in Dubuque.

Visitation will be from 9:00 am until 10:15 am on Friday, April 4, 2025 at St. Anthony Catholic Church.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Rita will be at 10:30 am on Friday, April 4, 2025, at St. Anthony Catholic Church with Father Steven Rosonke as the Celebrant. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Dubuque.

Rita was born on December 28, 1925, in Dubuque, the daughter of John and Anna (Sullivan) Seymour. On April 17, 1948, she married Terrence Hitchcock. He preceded her in death on July 7, 1966. She married William “Bill” Helmer on February 4, 1967. He preceded her in death on February 28, 2020.

Rita worked as a secretary in the medical field for fifty years.

Rita loved to travel with her husband, Bill, and made friends everywhere she went. Those that knew Rita, knew how outgoing and witty she was. She enjoyed staying active, playing card games, and helping with the newsletter at Sunset Park Place.

Survivors include many nieces and nephews.

Besides both husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Gerald (Deane), Alan (Leora), and Cletus (Helen) Seymour, and one sister, Mary (John) McClellan.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Hospice of Dubuque.

Marge Nauman

Marge Nauman, 90, of Dubuque, died Sunday, March 30, 2025, at the Hawkeye Care Center in Dubuque.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 am until 10:45 am on Friday, April 4, 2025 at Church of the Resurrection.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Marge will be at 11:00 am on Friday, April 4, 2025, at Church of the Resurrection with Father David Ambrosy as the Celebrant. Entombment will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Key West.

Marge was born on July 29, 1934, in Dubuque, IA, the daughter of Clarence and Lucille (Welbes) Schuster. On July 10, 1954, she married Herman “Boots” Nauman at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Key West. He preceded her in death on March 8, 2017.

Marge graduated from St. Columbkille High School in 1952 and worked in food services at Finley Hospital for 20 years before her retirement.  She was a member of Church of the Resurrection but was also an integral part of Holy Ghost Catholic Church, where she was in charge of the card club, helped with bingo, and also volunteered for various activities at the church for over 50 years. She started the “Nifty After 50” Red Hat Chapter in Dubuque. In her free time, she loved to play bingo and do a little shopping but only if the item was returnable. She cherished time with her family, where family holiday weekends and vacations were some of her favorite memories.

Survivors include her eight children, Terry (Linda) Nauman of Holy Cross, IA, Pat (Scott) Cawiezell of Long Grove, IA, Connie (Terry) Kennedy of Altoona, IA, Jeff (Melissa) Nauman of Whitewater, WI, Dave (Lucy) Nauman of Belchertown, MA, Randy (Kris) Nauman of Dubuque, Tom (Heidi) Nauman of Chanhassen, MN, and Jenny Daughetee of Dubuque; 22 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Jeanne (Dick) Stierman and Loie (John “Whitey”) Leytem both of Dubuque, IA; and in-laws, Ruth Schuster, Norma Schuster, John (Ann) Nauman, Germaine Freiburger, Teresa Kroll, Agnes O’Neill, Adele Peters, and Ken Ziegenfuss.

Marge was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Clete and Nick Schuster; her son-in-law, Andy Daughetee; and in-laws, Millie (Bob) Wirzbach, Hank (Eilene) Nauman, Greg “Butch” (Helen) Nauman, Norb (Leora) Nauman, Lavonne (Bob) Hoffman, Loras Freiburger, Gene Kroll, George Peters, Margaret “Dolly” Ziegenfuss, Bob O’Neill, Eldon Nauman, Eleanor Nauman, Lucille Beau, Marian Bales, and Clara Spoden.
