Joseph W. Offerman
Joseph “Joe” William Offerman, 92 of Galena, IL, passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at Midwest Medical Center, Galena. Joe’s life was filled with love, laughter, and an impressive collection of Dad Jokes. A funeral mass will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Galena, where friends may gather after 10 AM until the time of mass. Burial will be held at a later date. Military honors will be accorded by Galena VFW Post #2665 and American Legion Post #193 immediately following the mass. The Furlong Funeral Chapel in Galena is assisting the family. He was born on March 22, 1933, in Chicago, IL, the son of Eugene and Agnes (Brierty) Offerman.
Joe grew up during the Depression as one of seven siblings. This likely explains his lifelong love of food and his commitment to always cleaning his plate. He graduated from Old Saint Patrick High School and Northern Illinois University, served two years in the United States Navy, where he traveled to dozens of countries, and later earned a master’s degree from Northeastern Illinois University while teaching and raising a family. Joe taught at Wells High School in Chicago for 30 years, where he also met his beautiful bride, Joan Gallis.
Joe and Joan were married on February 16, 1963, at St. Gertrude Catholic Church in Chicago. They had two wonderful children and put down roots in the Jefferson Park neighborhood of Chicago, where they lived for the next thirty years on Parkside, sharing neighbors’ homes, being in community at events, and attending church basement parties for every occasion.
Joe took his family on semi-annual road trips to northern Wisconsin in the summer and to Michigan in the winter. He played sixteen-inch softball, showed off his thespian side in Saint Cornelius parish plays, and belonged to the Holy Name Society.
After retiring, Joe and Joan built a home in the Galena Territory, where they lived for almost another thirty years and made many wonderful friends throughout the territory. With their friends, they golfed, enjoyed group parties at one another’s homes, and had friendship moments over coffee and beers. Beyond retirement, Joe worked at the territory fitness center and the golf course, where he kept busy, earned a paycheck, and received a substantial discount off the golfing fees – Joe loved a substantial discount.
Joe was a devoted husband, loving father, caring brother, fun uncle, and treasured friend. His greatest joys were his family, a tasty beer, and pizza from Paternos.
Joe is survived by his wife of 63 years, Joan; his daughter, Mary (Kelly); and his son, John. He is also survived by his sister, Frances “Fran” O’Keefe, and his brother, Vincent “Vin”. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews who had better cherish his memory. Joe is also survived by Marilyn Monroe “Cat” Offerman.
He is preceded in death by his parents and by his siblings Eugene “Gene”, Marianne (Keyzer), Margaret “Peggy” (Leman), and Kathleen “Kathy” (Whiting).
Donations may be made in Joe’s name to Safe Haven Humane Society in Elizabeth, IL, where Joe and Joan adopted many beloved cats.

Roger E. Magby
Roger E. Magby, age 67, of Platteville, WI, completed his earthly journey on February 28, 2026, at home while surrounded by his loving family. To honor Roger’s life, a private family remembrance will be held at a later date. Burial will be in the Belmont Cemetery at a later date. The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Roger’s family.
Roger was born on February 21, 1959, in Dodgeville, WI, to John “Leroy” and Darlene (Kammerude) Magby. He enjoyed the simple pleasures in life and was always content to live life on his terms. Roger spent his working years in the construction trades primarily. He was an accomplished welder and carpenter who shared his time and talents with various businesses throughout the years, but his last stent was working side by side with his friends at Tim Sherwin Electrical. Roger took great pride in his skills and found satisfaction in each and every job he was a part of.
In his free-time, Roger’s favorite activity was surely in the hunting and fishing arena. A bad day of either was still better than the best day at work and he treasured the opportunity to find out which was which anytime he could. It is well known that his favorite fishing hole still remains a mystery to all except a select few. Roger was also gifted with an innate ability to work with the dogs that came into his life. Even the damaged and broken ones would eventually discover that Roger was there for them and their new best friend was just around the corner now that he was involved. Roger enjoyed traveling the backroads as much as possible and if a little time to sit down and visit came into his day, you could easily find him sharing stories and the day’s events with his friends at the Char Bar. We will miss Roger more than he could know and are grateful for every memory he leaves behind now. Thank you, Roger, for reminding us life only has to be as complicated as we allow it to be and may peace from your earthly battles be yours now and we wait to see your genuine smile once again.
Those left behind to cherish the memory of Roger include,

John was born on March 2, 1947, in Dubuque, IA, one of six children to Joseph George and Virginia Rose (Meyer) Kelley, Sr. He was a kind and humble-hearted soul who also possessed the innate ability to fix anything you put in front of him. He spent the majority of his working years helping at the family business, Microlite Chrome Furniture, and even spent a few years sharing his skills and time with the Brass and Utility Company in Tampa, FL. John was talented in so many aspects of life that everywhere he went, he became a blessing to those around him. He spent the majority of his years in the Dubuque area, but moving to Florida to be close to his Mom and Brother was time that he truly enjoyed while being away from home.
John enjoyed spending time on his bike as well, but not to be simply a rider, he also helped many of the neighborhood kids fix their bikes when problems arose. He was generous to a fault and only wanted to make life better for those around him when possible. John was also a very talented woodworker and many of his pieces and craftmanship remain behind today to help comfort the broken hearts of all who knew and loved him. Thank you, John, for living your life as best you were able and sharing yourself with so many in your path along the way. May peace be yours now as we face your sudden absence from our daily lives and may the Lord keep you safe and secure in His loving arms until we all meet again.

Mary Jane Wunder
Mary Jane Wunder, age 79, of Dubuque, IA, completed her earthly journey on February 27, 2026, at home while surrounded by her loving family. To honor Mary Jane’s life, a memorial mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, March 6, 2026, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 1425 Iowa Street, with Rev. Dennis Quint officiating. Family and friends are invited to join in fellowship for one hour prior to the service at the church. The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Mary Jane’s family.
Mary Jane was born on April 15, 1946, in Dubuque, IA, a daughter to Alfonse (Mildred) Boge, Sr. She was gifted with a nurturing heart and a desire to be surrounded by friends and family whenever possible. Mary Jane found her true-love, Thomas Wunder, and the two of them were united in marriage on April 25, 1964. They were blessed with over 61 years together and four children of their own to love and adore along the way. Mary Jane spent her working hours with Kruse Grocery, Sears and eventually over 20 at K-Mart. In her free-time after retirement, she enjoyed putting in a few hours at the Family Mart where she continued to visit with friends and co-workers until she was unable to work any longer due to health issues.
Mary Jane spent her younger years polishing her bowling skills with many leagues and was a determined pitcher with the WRA slow-pitch softball leagues as well. As life progressed, Mary Jane found great joy in annual summer vacations with family and friends in Northern Wisconsin. Being joined with 4 other families each year, they spent quality time together fishing and playing cards at the Zeromski Lake Hancock Resort. Mary Jane also enjoyed trying her luck at the Dog Track and Casino in the early years even finding the great opportunity to have a friend name one of his dogs after her. And if her luck wasn’t hot during her visits there, it was quite common for her winning streaks to appear in the regular poker nights with friends each week. Mary Jane loved on her family and friends continually and was honored to take the time to care for her mom and mother-in-law both when they became ill. It’s been a challenging season as all who knew and loved Mary Jane had to watch Alzheimer’s take her from us right before our eyes, but if there was ever to be a single blessing to be found, it would be the fact that she never had to face the reality that she had lost her two sons last year. Thank you Mary Jane for leading by example as a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and may the peace of Christ be yours today and the shackles of your earthly bonds are broken and you and the boys are able to rejoice together waiting patiently for our eventual arrival as well. Job well done Mary Jane…Well Done!

The son of Emil and Hyacinth (Bruggemann) Kruse, Gene was born on February 24, 1947. He grew up on the family farm near Petersburg. Gene attended SS. Gene married the love of his life, Elizabeth “Betty” Nachtman, on August 9, 1969, at St. Joseph Church in Earlville. The couple had four children.
Farming was an important part of the life that Gene and Betty built together. Early in their marriage, the couple bought a dairy farm north of Colesburg, where they raised their children and spent more than 50 years farming. Gene enjoyed caring for his animals and working in the fields, as well as helping tend the couple’s large garden.

Gene was a deeply religious man who loved God and his Catholic faith. Through the years, Gene was an active member in two parish communities. During his time at St. Patrick in Colesburg, Gene served as a lector, a eucharistic minister, and as a religious education teacher and a coordinator of the program. While at SS. Peter and Paul in Petersburg, Gene sang in the church choir.
After his faith in God, the most important thing in Gene’s life was his family. He treasured time spent with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was loving and devoted to them and always a strong, steady presence in their lives.
Gene was known for his good work ethic. He had a quiet nature but also a wonderful sense of humor and an easy-going personality. He was kind and generous to everyone he knew. He was loved deeply and will be greatly missed.

Lawrence E. Walter
Lawrence E. “Larry” Walter, age 87, of Dubuque, IA, completed his earthly journey on February 25, 2026, at MercyOne while surrounded by his loving family. To honor Larry’s life, a memorial mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at the Church of the Resurrection, 4300 Asbury Road in Dubuque, with Rev. Phil Gibbs officiating. Family and friends are invited to join in fellowship from 9:00-10:30 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery at a later date. The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Larry’s family.
Larry was born on November 2, 1938, in Dubuque, IA, a son to George and Ellen (Rettenmeier) Walter. Larry was a proud graduate of East Dubuque High School and eventually met the love of his life, Donna Putchio. The two were united in marriage on June 13, 1959, at St. Mary’s Church in East Dubuque, IL. They were blessed with 66 wonderful years together and five children of their own to love and nurture along the way. Larry was honored to provide for his family and spent over 43 years of his working career with the Dubuque Packing Company until its closure in 2001. He took great pride in his work and made countless friends over his years there, especially his best friend, Charlie Reisen. Their families shared many cherished vacations together. In his later years, Larry generously gave his time as a patient aide with Medical Associates and Dubuque Internal Medicine, always giving back more than he took and using his time to help others when and where he could.
In his free-time, Larry was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed watching his kids and grandkids play from their early years in Little League through high school. He was their biggest fan, and it would be difficult to find a close second. He also enjoyed watching professional sports, and as most fans in the area are aware, the best teams are clearly the Bears, Cubs, and Iowa Hawkeyes, and Larry was no exception to the rule. When his teams were taking the field, Larry was always right there to cheer them on. When a little extra family time found its way into Larry’s day, there was no greater thrill than to sit down at the euchre table and remind them who the true euchre champion was just in case they had a momentary lapse which required adjustment. Larry was gifted with a kind heart and gentle soul which he carried and displayed continuously throughout his 87 years among us. Thank you, Larry, for being the best husband, dad, grandpa, and GGPA we could ever ask for. May the Lord keep you safe and secure in His loving arms until we see your loving smile once again.
Larry’s memory will live on in the hearts of,
his beautiful bride,
Donna Walter, Dubuque, IA;
his four children,
Doreen (Ron) Kane, Dubuque, IA,
Cheryl (Darrell) Weiland, Asbury, IA,
Gayle (Carl Spoerl) Walter, Cascade, IA,
and John (Kris) Walter, Dubuque, IA;

Patricia G. Gent
Patricia “Pat” Gail (Teeple) Gent, 80, passed away peacefully Wednesday February 25, 2026, at home with her husband at her side.
Pat was born January 22, 1946, in Anamosa, Iowa, the youngest of 3 daughters, to Paul and Velma (Skott) Teeple. She was raised on the family farm west of Monmouth and graduated from Midland High School with the Class of 1964. On September 30, 1967, she married Philip Gent in Cedar Rapids, where they raised their family and lived until moving to the Teeple farm in 1988.
Pat dedicated her life to helping others. Following high school she worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse at St. Luke’s Hospital. She left her nursing career in order to focus her time on raising her two sons, volunteering her time to be a Room Mother at their school, serving on the PTA, spending a few years as Den Mother for the Cub Scouts, and being a surrogate mother for numerous wild animal babies that made their way to the Gent home over the years. In her spare time, she enjoyed garage sales, coffee with Marilyn, refinishing antique furniture, and creating crafts and art of all kinds. As the grandkids and great-nieces and -nephews got old enough, she eagerly passed along her love of creating, especially during Labor Day weekend family reunions. She helped to inspire numerous State Fair 4-H projects by Cale and Kaylyn. Pat and Phil worked side by side as well, buying, fixing up, and reselling numerous houses in Cedar Rapids and Maquoketa. When Phil left the bank and started his own real estate appraisal business, Pat was office manager, accountant, HR director, and occasional receptionist. In retirement, Pat put her creativity and organizational skills to work volunteering at the Jackson County Historical Society.
Pat is survived by her husband, Phil, sons Skott (Christine) Gent of Monmouth and Chad (Michelle) Gent of Omaha, Nebraska; grandchildren Cale (Nicole) Gent of Garner, Iowa, Kaylyn Gent of Maquoketa, Iowa, Ryan Gent of Omaha, and Alex Gent of Phoenix, Arizona; and great-grandchildren Thea and Beckham Gent of Garner. Also surviving are sisters Carmin Teeple and Rosemary Kariakin, special cousin/”sister” Janet (Eugene) Gruhn, sisters-in-law Judy Sieren and Bonnie Warren, brother-in-law Russ Gent, and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and parents-in-law, sister-in-law Jan Heinen Gent and brothers-in-law Joe Kariakin, Bill Warren, and Ray Sieren.
Pat’s wishes were to celebrate her life, not to mourn her loss. A memorial service for the family will be held at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa at 10 A.M., Saturday, March 14, 2026, followed by a time for a public celebration of life at the Together We Build TWB Outreach Center at the Jackson County Fairgrounds, 1102 East Quarry Street, Maquoketa, IA 52060, from 11:30 A.M. to 2:30 P.M. Lunch will be served at noon. Cremation rites have been accorded.

Arlyn R. Weber
Arlyn R. Weber of Potosi, WI passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at Sienna Crest, in Mineral Point, WI, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.
He was born in Cuba City, WI on March 6, 1949, to Harold and Almira (Dalsing) Weber, the 4th of 8 children. At the age of 6 his family moved to a farm near Potosi. Arlyn went to elementary school at Rigsby School and graduated in 1967 from Potosi High School, where he played basketball and ran track. His father died of a heart attack in 1963, and through most of his high school and college years, Arlyn worked hard to keep the family farm going. He went on to graduate from the University of Wisconsin—Platteville in 1971, where he distinguished himself as a soccer player, having joined the team completely new to the sport in his sophomore year and working his way into a starting position as a midfielder.
He worked as a substitute teacher and at Flexsteel after graduating, and began a long career at John Deere in 1974. He was a basketball referee, and coached soccer at both Wahlert and Hempstead High Schools in Dubuque, earning MVC Coach of the Year honors four times. Retiring from Deere and Co. after 33 years, he taught drivers education through Southwest Tech until he became ill. For a short time before that he was a museum educator at the National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium and continued to volunteer there at events for many years.
He was a long-time member of Ss. Andrew-Thomas Church, where he served as an altar boy as a youngster and later as an usher. Arlyn was a great supporter of youth sports and also an avid bow hunter and fisherman, teaching his sons the joy of competition and of being in the great outdoors. He loved long bicycle rides, and continued to ride well into his illness. Arlyn and Dee also loved to travel, including Ireland, Scotland, Hawaii, and Australia. There wasn’t a sport he couldn’t figure out by watching it, but soccer was his favorite, especially Manchester United.
Arlyn married the love of his life, Deirdre (Dee) Caya, on August 10, 1974, at St. Andrew’s Church in Tennyson, WI. She survives him. He is further survived by three sons, Allyn of Middleton, Sam of Cassville, and Andy (Kristin) of Mineral Point, as well as his almost-son, Hiro Konishi of Tokyo, who lived with the family for six years as a foreign exchange student. He is further survived by his beloved grandchildren, Kate, Jack, Eric, and Cecilia. He is also survived by his siblings Justin (Joyce), Frank (Rita), Tom (Janelle), Darrell (Cathy), and Janiece, in-laws Barb Weber, Linda Barr, Kathy (Mark) Steuck, George Kopp, and Dan Kerkenbush, and many nieces and nephews, including his favorite, Becky, who was Fred to his Wilma. His pack of Boston terriers, Kona, Mugsy and Gus still wait his return.
He was predeceased by his parents, his brothers Jerome and Arvin, parents-in-laws Allan and Pat Caya, sisters-in-law Mary, Eileen and Alice, and many uncles and aunts, as well as his loyal dogs Aggie, Fiona and Nellie.
According to his wishes, there will be no formal services and a private internment of his ashes will be held at a later date. A Celebration of Life will be held at The Depot at the National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium on March 6, 2026, from 5 to 7 PM. It has been suggested that mourners wear bike shorts in memory of Arlyn, something that he would have found totally hilarious. (With the caveat that Spandex is a privilege and not a right, which he routinely abused.)
The family wishes to give their deepest thanks to Agrace Hospice and Sienna Crest staff for their excellent care of Arlyn.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium and to Agrace Hospice.
