Dian G. Bradbery

Dian G. Bradbery, age 92, of Dubuque, IA, completed her earthly journey on August 3, 2025, at home while surrounded by her loving family.  To honor Dian’s life, a private family burial will be held at the Dubuque Memorial Gardens Cemetery.  The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Dian’s family.

Dian was born on December 25, 1932, in Dubuque, IA, a daughter to Oliver and Mary (Garrett) Merz.  She was gifted with a selfless and strong independent spirit which she carried proudly throughout her entire life.  Dian spent her working years with the Dubuque Community School District mainly in the custodial department at Dubuque Senior High School and Audubon Grade School, but also invested a few years as the administrator and caretaker at Dubuque Memorial Gardens.  She took great pride in her work and always brought her best to the table each and every day.

For those who knew Dian best, it was no secret that family was her main priority in life.  Her devotion to her children and grandchildren was unwavering and her uncanny ability to be there just when any one of them needed her most was undeniable.  Her first battle with cancer reinvigorated her strength and stamina when she needed to be stronger than she already was, but the second time around simply proved to be more than she was going to conquer, but never did she surrender and simply fought each day with what she had.

In her free-time, you could easily find Dian doing a little traveling, working on her next bingo card, catching up on her favorite game shows, and even babysitting the 5 grand-dogs when necessary.  Dian didn’t seek to overcomplicate life and always took time to enjoy the simple blessings such as watching her birds at the feeder or even just taking in the majesty of the trees around her.  Life isn’t easy, but with a little determination coupled with a sassy, yet silly attitude, life can surely be tolerable enough to be content.  We will miss our dear sweet Dian more than she could ever imagine and our hearts break at the mere thought of facing the days and years ahead without her loving heart right by our side.  Thank you, Dian, for leading by example, always knowing when to be firm or soft with your touch, and for continually reminding us that life is a journey to be embraced no matter what the day offers up.  May the Lord bless you and keep you safe in His loving arms until we all meet again.

Those left behind to cherish the memory of Dian include,

her loving children,
Sue Rae Schumacher, Loxey, AL,
Calvin Bradbery III, Janesville, WI,
Howie (Jill) Bradbery, Dubuque, IA,
Lori Bradbery, TX,
Linda Abitz, Dubuque, IA,
and Trudy Bradbery, Dubuque, IA;

her son-in-law,
Gary Vogel, Ft. Atkinson, WI;

her adored grandchildren,
Dennis Schumacher, Stacey Vogel, Gary Vogel, Calvin Bradbery IV, Jodi Bradbery, Tiana Gohl, Tasha Remington, Tabatha Barreras, Tajia Dorsey, Tiarra Marugg, Crystal Abitz, Lee Abitz, Jenna Bauer, Timothy Gillenwater and Trenton Gillenwater;

her 38 amazing great-grandchildren;

her siblings,
Nancy (Denny) Hermsen, Farley, IA,
Janice Peil, Dubuque, IA,
Donny Merz, Graf, IA,
Terry (Carol) Merz, Dubuque, IA,
Cheryl (Vince) Lopez, Dubuque, IA,

Mike Weber

Mike Weber, age 59, of Earlville, Iowa, passed away peacefully on July 31 ,2025, surrounded with the love of his family.

Born on October 20, 1965, Mike lived a life marked by hard work, deep faith, and unwavering love for his family. A lifelong truck driver, he spent countless hours behind the wheel of a semi, proudly hauling freight across the country and providing for those he loved most. But no matter how far the road took him, his heart was always back home — in the fields he farmed, in the machine shed tinkering with engines, and with the family he cherished beyond measure.

God blessed him with two sons, his greatest joy and proudest legacy. He raised them with strong hands, a generous heart, and a deep sense of responsibility and purpose. Whether they were working on pickup trucks or semis together in the shop or sharing stories over a Saturday morning breakfast, those quiet, everyday moments were the ones he treasured most.

Mike was a man of steady faith, a neighbor you could count on, and a father who led by example. He believed in the value of honest work, the reward of a job done right, and the importance of time spent with those you love. His memory will live on in the grease-stained tools he used, the tracks in the fields he plowed, and the laughter that echoed in the early morning breakfasts shared with his boys.

Mike is survived by wife, Tina of 28 years, his sons, Jeremy and Benjamin, brother Randy (Michele) Weber, sister, Vicki Weber, Mother-in-Law JoAnn Potter, Danielle (Katy), Nichole and Brooke (Randy) and Dylan. And countless friends and family who will miss his strength, his stories, and his smile.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Marilyn Weber, brother Ricky Jay, Fathers-in-Laws Robert Potter and George Settle.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2025, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Reiff Funereal Home in Dyersville, Iowa, where a prayer service will be held at 3:30 p.m., followed by sharing stories and events of Mike’s life.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Mike’s memory by sharing a meal with someone you love or family, get your hands dirty fixing something with your kids, or simply watching the sunrise from the tailgate of a truck with your better half.

Mike was a man who loved deeply, worked hard, and left the world better than he found it. He will be missed more than words can say.

Kathryn L. Kean

Kathryn Loraine (Koopman) Kean, age 90, of Cascade, Iowa, formerly of Epworth, was peacefully called home, surrounded by loved ones on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at Accura Health Center in Cascade.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 on Friday, August 8, 2025, at Reiff Funeral Home in Epworth, where a prayer service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Visitation will continue from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Epworth, with Rev. Steve Garner officiating and Deacon Nick Elliott assisting. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Epworth.

Kathryn was born on March 4, 1935, in Dyersville, Iowa, the daughter of Alphonse and Anastasia (Klocker) Koopmann. She received her education at St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Farley.

On November 24, 1960, Kathryn married the love of her life, James R. Kean, at St. John’s Catholic Church in rural Placid, Iowa. Over the course of their 61-year marriage, Kathryn and James were truly inseparable partners. Their devotion to one another was quiet yet unwavering, rooted in shared faith, hard work, and a deep love for family. Together they built a home full of laughter, generosity, and love.

A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Kathryn was also a woman of service. She worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant for 25 years at the Sisters of Charity BVM. She was a foster parent for many years and a charter member of the National Foster Parents Association. In her church and community, she served as a Religious Education teacher and 4-H leader, helping to shape the lives of countless young people with her patience and kindness.

Kathryn had a deep appreciation for life’s simple blessings. She loved gardening, especially tending to her flowers, and she delighted in finding beauty wherever it bloomed. She enjoyed antiquing, finding joy in the stories behind old treasures. But more than anything, she cherished time with her family, creating memories through everyday moments — sharing meals, conversations, and unconditional love.

Kathryn is survived by her children: Johnna Norpel of Richfield, MN; Gretchen Adams of Cape Girardeau, MO; Roxanne (Jeff) Simon of Farley; Rose (Alan) McQuillen of Peosta; Cindy (Phil) Cook of Dubuque; and by her daughter-in-law, Denise Freeman of Cascade. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by her siblings: Pat (Deanna) Koopmann of Dubuque; Gerald (Joann) Koopmann and Ambrose (Marlene) Koopmann, both of Epworth; Tom (Helen) Koopmann of Cascade; and Fred and Steve Koopmann, both of Bennett.

She will be remembered fondly by many brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who were touched by her presence and generous heart.

Kathryn was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James R. Kean; her parents, Alphonse and Anastasia Koopmann; five children: Troy Kean, Dennis Kean, Aaron Kean, Sherry Messer, and Daniel Freeman; her great-granddaughter Olivia Barrett; her son-in-law, Keith Adams; two sisters: Sr. Shawn Marie Koopmann, PBVM, and Lois Kramer; one brother: Dan (Nancy) Koopmann; her in-laws Clyde and Anna Delores Kean; and several brothers- and sisters-in-law: Robert (Susan) Kean, John Kean, Donald Johnson, and Norma Kean.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made on Kathryn’s behalf to The Alzheimer’s Society or the Epworth community food pantry.
