Matthew J. Shimon

Matthew J. Shimon, 44, of Dubuque died Wednesday, October 20, 2021.  Visitation will be from 11 to 2 pm Saturday, October 30, at the Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road followed by sharing of music and memories at 2 pm.  Burial will be at a later date in Gilmore City, Iowa.

Matthew was born June 28, 1977 in Iowa City, Iowa, son of Leland and Linda (Heim) Shimon.

He graduated from Marshall Minnesota and worked at Simmons Pet Food. He was previously at Flexsteel Industries, for many years until they closed the Dubuque facility.

Matthew had a passion for movies, film making, and history. You could find him on a Friday or Saturday night playing Poker with his friends.  Matt was known as the voice of reason. He loved an in-depth conversation. He was impartial on all topics, making him one to always know the right thing to say.  He had a clever mind and an intelligent humor. Matt always knew how to make someone smile. And he never failed to turn a random fact into an hour long conversation. But most of all, he loved spending time with his daughters and family.

He is survived by two daughters, Tiffany (Scott) Lee of Preston, and Kaitlyn Shimon of Dubuque; three grandchildren, Teagan, Journey and Kendyl; mother, Linda Shimon of Pleasant Hill; siblings, Janelle (Jeff) Burkle of Dyersville, Aaron Shimon of Ames, Tina Trenkamp of Bellevue, Howard (Paula) Burnett of Pleasant Hill, Leona (Greg) Watson of Athens, Tenn, Lisa Reutzel of Lakeville, MN, and Jennifer (Ed) Meyer of Emmetsburg, maternal grandmother, Delores Heim, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Leland Shimon, maternal grandfather, paternal grandparents and aunts and uncles.

Michelle A. McVay

Michelle Ann McVay, 49, of Dubuque, died Saturday, October 23, 2021, at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee.

Visitation will be 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm, Monday, November 1, 2021 at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home & Crematory.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Michelle will be 10:30 am, Tuesday, November 2, 2021, at Holy Spirit Parish – Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Entombment will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Dubuque.

Michelle was born September 5, 1972, in Charles City, IA, the daughter of Raymond and Karen (Roth) Steinlage. On September 25, 1999, she married John McVay in Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Michelle graduated from Galena High School.

Michelle was on dialysis for the past 25 years, receiving treatment multiple times a week the staff at Tri-State Dialysis became closer than caretakers almost like family. Despite her health Michelle was always so thankful and positive in the outlook of her life. She was always so loving, caring, and supportive.

She liked watching TV, petting her cat, Muffins, going to her dad’s house for holidays, spending time with her husband, and loved life.

Survivors include her husband, John McVay of Dubuque; her father, Ray (Marie) Steinlage of Worthington; one brother, Mike (Maria) Steinlage of Dubuque; and nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Karen.

A special thank you to the staff members at Tri-State Dialysis for their tremendous care of Michelle these past years, and her primary doctor, Dr. Whalen.

John D. Cooke, III

John D. Cooke, III of Galena, IL died Tuesday, October 5, 2021, at Mercy Hospital, Dubuque, IA after a brief illness. A memorial service is planned for 1 PM, Saturday, November 6, 2021, at the Furlong Funeral Chapel, 100 Carol-don Court, Galena, IL 815-777-9122, with family welcoming friends and guests from 11 AM until the time of service. A reception will immediately follow at the DeSoto House Hotel in downtown Galena at 230 S. Main Street.

He was born July 9, 1928, in Elmhurst, IL to John and Dorothea Cooke. In his 93 years, his was truly a life well-lived. He rose to the top of his profession as a Senior Vice President and Corporate Ombudsman for McDonald’s Corporation. After serving in the U.S. Army, stationed in Japan after World War II, he graduated from Knox College in Galesburg with degrees in History and Philosophy. An avid historian and Genealogist he extensively researched and shared family heritage and wrote four books on World War II. His many activities and accomplishments in Galena are almost too numerous to mention. Since 1991, he was active with the Galena Territory Association and served as its President for two terms. He was a Director on the Board of the River Museum in Dubuque, IA, and helped develop the new Galena & Jo Davies County Historical Museum. He was active in the Galena Rotary and was Chair of their Annual Roundtable. He was a key supporter of the Jo Daviess Conservation Foundation, and actively participated in the 2020 plan for Business Expansion in Galena. Starting in 2011 he led the effort, along with six other partners, in conceiving and building the Prairie Ridge Senior Living and Memory Care facility in Galena. John Cooke was a man who gave freely of his time, worked tirelessly for the causes he supported and the family he loved.

He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Marge; sons John IV, Paul, and James; their wives Robin (deceased), Susan, Colleen, and Charity; and grandchildren Jessica, John V, Ian, Owen, Ethan, Collen (deceased), and 2 great-grandchildren, Keegan, and Kinley as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members in who he always took great interest.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his two sisters, Betty, and Zelda.

Jeric C. Clark

Jeric Cavanagh Clark, 28, of Dubuque, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, October 24, 2021, in Dubuque. He was born on February 2, 1993, in Iowa City, the son of Danielle Clark. He was raised and educated in Epworth and was a 2011 graduate of Western Dubuque High School.

After his graduation, Jeric worked for his grandpa at Iowa Bridge for several years. He then worked at various jobs in Dubuque.  Jeric enjoyed playing his electric guitar and loved singing karaoke.  He was a very outgoing person who loved to debate with others.  Jeric was a loving and kind person who will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his mother, Danielle Clark of Epworth; his maternal grandparents, Kevin and April Clark of Delaware; his siblings, Arianna Wolter, Isabella Wolter, Olivia Wolter, and Bodie Wolter all of Epworth; two aunts, Harmony (Isaac)Rivera Rojas of Delaware and Natalie (Tim) Davis of Winfield; great-aunts and great-uncles, Philip Tutton of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Dave (Carol) Tutton of Delaware, Grace (Bruce) Maurer of Iowa City, Claudette (Gary) Becker of Toddville, Joan Clark of Cedar Rapids, and Jennifer Clark of Kailua, Hawaii; and many cousins and friends.

Jeric was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Charles and Velda Clark, and Robert and Ruth Tutton; two great-uncles, Allen Clark and Jan Clark; and special cousins, Valencia and Sheena Stoner.

Joseph W. Sutter

Joseph W. “Joe” Sutter, 91, of East Dubuque, IL, passed away on Sunday, October 24, 2021 at home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 29, 2021 at St. Mary’s Church in East Dubuque, with Fr. Dennis Vargas officiating. Burial will be in the East Dubuque Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by the East Dubuque American Legion Post # 787.

Friends and relatives may call from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Miller Funeral Home in East Dubuque, and from 9:15 a.m. – 10:15 a.m. on Friday at the Church. Per State and CDC guidelines facemasks are required. The Knights of Columbus rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Members of American Legion Post # 787 will meet at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home.  The funeral mass will be live-streamed on the funeral home facebook page.

Joe was born on December 4, 1929 in Dickeyville, WI, the son of Michael and Julia (Speaker) Sutter.  He was united in marriage to Mary Eileen Martelle on September 17, 1949 at Sacred Heart Church in Dubuque.  Eileen preceded him in death on December 28, 2008.

Joe was a partner in East Dubuque Oil Company with Norb Rosemeyer and also owned and operated Joe’s Conoco at 32^nd & Jackson St. in Dubuque. He was a U. S. Navy veteran serving during W. W. 2 and the Korean Conflict.

Joe was an active member of St. Mary’s Parish and its Holy Name Society. A member of East Dubuque K. of C. Council # 7527, and  a member of American Legion Post # 787 of East Dubuque.

He enjoyed fishing, morel hunting, NASCAR racing and gardening.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Jo Bohlen of East Dubuque, five sons, Mike (Bobbi) Sutter and Jim Sutter, both of Florida, Jerry and Mark (Vicky) both of East Dubuque and Tom (Leanne) Sutter of Woodstock, IL; 11 grandchildren, Beth (Brad Samuelson), Kelly (Travis Kieler), Sarah (Tony Delaney), Ryan, Katie (Bart Meyer), Rachel (Tim Berning) Jonathan, Brett, Colin, Jason and Tracy (Greg Pemoulie);  12 great grandchildren, Dylan, Peyton, Benjamin, Isaiah, Olivia, Joey, Danny, Pauly, Frankie, Harper, Quinn and Riley.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mike & Julia; his wife Eileen; a son John on Feb. 4, 1983 and son-in-law, David Bohlen on Aug. 12, 2021.

Sandra M. Steadman

Sandra M. “Sandy” (Glab) Steadman, age 70, of Dubuque, passed away at 11:11 p.m., on Saturday, October 23, 2021, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.  To celebrate Sandy’s life, family and friends may visit from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., on Thursday, October 28, 2021, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street, where there will be a parish scripture service held at 6:30 p.m.  There will also be visitation on Friday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until praying of the Rosary at 9:30 a.m.  Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Friday, October 29, 2021, at the Church of the Nativity, 1225 Alta Vista Street, with Rev. Andrew J. Upah officiating.  Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Sandy was born on December 31, 1950, in Dubuque, Iowa, daughter of Buron and Inez (Hendricks) Glab.

Sandy went to grade school at St. Raphael’s Cathedral and graduated from Dubuque Senior High School, Class of 1969.  Right after graduation she went to work with Mercy Hospital, where she would do several different jobs throughout her 46 year career.  Sandy was united in marriage to Jerry Lee Steadman in 1971, in Dubuque and they would be blessed with 2 sons.  Sadly they would go their separate ways in 1982.  Sandy’s faith was a very important aspect of her life.  She was a very active member of the Church of the Nativity where she was involved with the Rosary Society and several prayer groups.  In her free time you could often find Sandy planning family activities, listening to Barry Manilow in the background.  Everyone who knew her knew that Sandy’s family was always her top priority and she truly loved spending time with them any chance she could.  We are deeply saddened at the sudden loss of Sandy in our daily lives, but know that she is now resting peacefully with her Heavenly Father.

Raymond J. Roussel

Raymond J. “Whitey” Roussel, 94, of Dubuque, died on Monday, October 25, 2021, at home surrounded by his family.

Private family services will be held. The Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 JFK Road is entrusted with arrangements.

Raymond was born on October 18, 1927, in La Motte, Iowa, the son of Louis and Theresa (Lenz) Roussel. He married Mary Lou Elliott on June 30, 1951, at St. Mary’s Church in Dubuque.

He was a talented musician, who had a passion for playing the steel guitar. He was a member of Dubuque’s first country music band and played on KDTH on Saturday mornings with his siblings. Raymond enjoyed the get togethers at the annual Roussel Jam.

He was also known for his woodworking skills, never turning down a new project from his family. He enjoyed playing cards and watching the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Raymond retired as a pattern maker from the Adams Company.

He is survived by his children, Terry (Dawn Carr) Roussel, of Dubuque, Debbie Williams, of Orangevale, CA., Pam (Mark) Jordan, Connie (Corey) Klein, Rick (Sue) Roussel, and Ron Roussel, all of Dubuque; 20 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one brother, Jerry Roussel, of Dubuque; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou; daughter, Kathy Jo Roussel; son-in-law, Terry Williams; and brothers and sisters, and in-laws, Mildred (Bill) Bruck, Bob (Rita) Roussel, Mary (Alfred) Nauman, Dorothy (Sylvester) Welty, Dean (Marion) Wiest and Bonnie Roussel.

Wanda L. Gelinas

Wanda Lee Gelinas, of Galena, IL passed away Monday, October 25, 2021, at home surrounded by her family and friends, after a courageous battle with cancer. Keeping with her wishes, there will be no public services. The Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena is assisting the family.

She was born November 12, 1946, in Dubuque, IA the daughter of Richard D. and Marcella J. (Roth) Clark. Wanda graduated from Galena High School with the class of 1964. She was united in marriage to John Gelinas on April 18, 1983. She was in the restaurant business for over 60 years and worked in businesses in Rockford, IL, and Galena. Wanda owned and operated her own restaurant “Clarks Again” for several years in downtown Galena. She was an avid reader, finishing a couple of books a week! Her greatest love was traveling, and she enjoyed many trips with John, numerous friends, and other family members. Her favorite trip took her to London, Paris and Rome with her friend Mary and brother Jerry. Wanda will be greatly missed by her family and friends who love her.

She is survived by her husband, John, daughter, Michelle, and eight stepchildren all of whom she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Brian, and a brother, Jerry.

Dr. George Giannakouros

Dr. George Giannakouros, 88, of Dubuque, IA, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2021, at home, surrounded by his loving family. To honor George’s life, a private family service will be held at a future date.

George was born on February 4, 1933, in Greece.  He immigrated to the United States and served in the U.S. Army with the 101st Airborne. George received his Bachelor of Science from the Advanced School of Economic Studies in Athens, Greece, followed by a Masters in Economics from Brigham Young University, and a Doctorate in Economics from the University of Iowa. George was a Professor of Economics at Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa for over 38 years. He enjoyed teaching and was honored to mentor many students throughout his career, taking great joy in seeing their growth and accomplishments.

George enjoyed studying mathematics and astronomy. He loved music and hiking in the mountains of Greece.

George cherished his family. George is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Giannakouros; his ten children; his ten grandchildren; and numerous extended family members, friends, and neighbors. George was preceded in death by his first wife, Susan; his parents Panayiotis and Maria; and his sister, Alexandra.

George’s family would like to thank Dr. Salas and his team at Grand River Medical; Dr. Hinnen and his team at the Dubuque VA Clinic, especially Keri Schwenker; Jason at Tri-state Cremation and all of the nurses and staff at Hospice of Dubuque, especially Kelli, Peggy, and Angelia for their care and kindness.

Arla M. Bussan

Arla Mae Bussan, 85 of Galena, IL passed away Thursday, October 21, 2021, surrounded by her loving family. The funeral mass will be 11 AM, Monday, October 25, 2021, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Galena where friends may call after 10 AM until the time of the mass. Friends may call from 1 to 4 PM, Sunday, October 24, 2021, at the Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was born February 18, 1936, in Hazel Green, WI the daughter of Aloysius “Ollie” and Olefa (Neis) Havertape. Arla graduated from St. Clara’s Academy, Sinsinawa, WI. She was united in marriage to Cyril L. “June” Bussan on July 30, 1955, and he preceded her in death on August 29, 2004. Arla was a hardworking, kindhearted person who loved spending time with her family, of whom she was immensely proud. She enjoyed watching the birds that came to her bird feeders, especially the cardinals and hummingbirds. Arla enjoyed planting flowers and always had room for “just one more.” Together her and June worked the family farm for many years. She also worked at the Palace Motel in housekeeping and later worked for many years at Signcraft.

This loving mother is survived by her eight children, Lynn (Dave) Bonjour, Cathy (Merrill) Henrichs, Shari (Alan) Wills, Bill (Deb) Bussan, Mark Bussan, Lori (Robert) Hessling, Jodi (Neil) Timmerman, and Jeanne (Terry) Heller, 18 grandchildren, Amy (Mike) Gust, Jamie (Renee) Bonjour, Kari (Caleb) Kass, Kim (Fiance’ Brandon Horn) Henrichs, Arlee (Shaun) Stodden, Anna (Derek) Schuster, Abby Wills, Adam (Jenna), Ashley, and Austin (Alicia) Bussan, Tyler, and Tim (Jade) Hessling, Kurt Timmerman, Karly (RJ) Hess, Kasey, and Kade Timmerman, Payton, and Cole Heller, step-grandson, Devin Dole, and 19 great-grandchildren, two brothers, Bob (Joan) and Mike (Kathy) Havertape, four sisters-in-law, Sally Stump, Mary Freiburger, Marsha and Margie Havertape, and her many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters, Kathleen Kieler and Mary Ann Leahy, two brothers, Herb and Aloysius Havertape, and daughter-in-law, Karen Bussan.

Edward J. Lynch

Edward Joseph Lynch, 74, of Dubuque, died Saturday, October 23, 2021, at his home in Dubuque surrounded by his family.

Visitation will be 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm, Tuesday, October 26, 2021 at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home & Crematory.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Edward will be 10:00 am, Wednesday, October 27, 2021, at St. Anthony Catholic Church with Father Steven Rosonke as the Celebrant.  Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.  Full military honors will be rendered by the American Legion Post #6 and the Iowa Army National Guard Honor Guard.

Ed was born November 19, 1946, in Dubuque, the son of Lester Michael and Carolyn Patricia (Dunn) Lynch. On September 9, 1967, he married Diane Hirsch in St. Patrick Catholic Church in Dubuque.

Ed honorably served in the Iowa National Guard for 30 years.

Ed retired from John Deere Dubuque Works as a machinist.

He was a member of the Dubuque Moose Lodge, Pilgrim Degree. Ed enjoyed golfing, woodworking, and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Diane Lynch of Dubuque, four sons, David (Sarah Wheeler) Lynch and his children: Hailey, Paige and Megan, Michael (Sarah) Lynch and their children: Brandon, Alec, Noah and Zoey, Mark (Chris) Lynch and her children: Melissa, Matt, Kami and Kim and Chad (Holly Martin) Lynch and his son: Landyn, all of Dubuque; four sisters, Jackie Kennicker of Dubuque, Linda Morgan of Naples, FL, Jan (Chuck) Scott of Dubuque and Pam (Dean) Roth of Dubuque; one brother, Al (Gail) Lynch of Ankeny and one half-brother, Jim Jones of Asbury.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Tim Morgan.

Joy L. Myers

Joy Lawrence Myers, 92, of Dubuque, IA, and formerly of Wickliffe, OH, passed away Thursday, October 21, 2021, at home.

Joy was born November 8, 1928 in Wickliffe, OH, the daughter of Ralph Earl and Gertrude Rosinna (Cline) Lawrence. She married Jim Myers, and they were married for almost 50 years, until he preceded her in death in 2002.

Joy was a resident of Wickliffe, Ohio for 37 years, and of Mentor, Ohio for 23 years. She graduated from Wickliffe High School in 1947, and Beacon College in Wilmington, DE. Joy was employed as an Accounts Receivable Clerk for Star Beacon Newspaper for 20 years, retiring in 1991.

In 2002, Joy relocated to Dubuque, Iowa. She enjoyed quilting, weaving, and knitting.

Joy is survived by her children, Nancy (Gordon) Miller of Hampton, IL, Peggy (Bob) Migliori of Price, UT, Janet (Tom) Kreek of Price, UT, and Jim Myers of Painesville, OH.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and her brother, Ralph Lawrence.

James L. Dunwoody

James L. Dunwoody, 85, of Dubuque, Iowa passed away on October 22, 2021, at Stonehill Care Center.

Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday, October 25, 2021, at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road. A graveside service with burial will be at 3:00 p.m. Monday at Dubuque Memorial Gardens.

Jim was born on June 18, 1936, the son of George and Margaret (Greenwood) Dunwoody. He married Bonnie L. Coyle on August 2, 1958, at St. Raphael Cathedral in Dubuque; she preceded him in death. Jim was a construction worker his entire life.

Jim was a loving family man and was always ready to help others. He enjoyed photography and taking many picture and movies of the family and friends.  He enjoyed spending time with his family fishing, camping, spending time at the park and having a few beers while watching old movies. Jim was a very good cook, and the kitchen was always open even for late night homemade pizzas and munchies.

In his later years he loved to drive around town and point out all of the places he helped build from his construction days. He was the kind of man that would give you the shirt off his back and the shoes from his feet.

He is survived by his son Steve (Michelle) Dunwoody and their children Lindsey and Ryan Dunwoody all of Melbourne, FL; Tim (Kim) Dunwoody, of Dubuque, and their children Stephanie (Lee) Ellis, of Leander, TX and Logan and Tyler Dunwoody of Dubuque.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Bonnie; his daughter Lori; his sisters Jean Ley and Joan Beaver.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Dubuque and Stonehill Care Center for all their wonderful care they gave to Jim.

Grace M. Schieltz

Grace Marie Schieltz, 90 of Luxemburg, Iowa passed away Thursday, October 21, 2021, surrounded by family, at Dubuque Specialty Care, Dubuque, Iowa.

Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m., Tuesday, October 26, 2021, at Kramer Funeral Home, 750 12th Ave SW in Dyersville.  Visitation will continue Wednesday from 9 – 10 a.m. at the funeral home prior to mass.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, October 27, 2021 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Luxemburg, with burial to follow in the church cemetery.  Rev. Noah Diehm will officiate.

Grace was born on September 20, 1931 in Luxemburg, Iowa, daughter of Edward and Agatha (Clemen) Lake.  She attended Holy Trinity School in Luxemburg.  She married Jerome (Jerry) Schieltz on April 23, 1951 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Luxemburg. Together they farmed north of Luxemburg on the farm that Jerry was born and raised.  Jerry and Grace were married 65 years before Jerry’s death on August 6, 2016.

Grace was active in her faith, especially her devotion to the Rosary. She was talented in quilting, sewing, and crocheting. Mom always had a big, fruitful garden. She was a hard-working farm wife and worked side by side with Jerry. She was honored to be part of the legacy of Schieltz farms which started in 1870 by Nicholas Schieltz, Jerry’s grandfather. She was very proud to see her sons, grandchildren, and family work the farm. She was a simple person who enjoyed the little things in life.  Mom was always happy and content to be at home.  Family was very important to Grace. She enjoyed visiting with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who affectionally referred to her as Grandma Grace.  She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, the Rosary Society, the Church Choir, and the Luxemburg Quilting Group.

She will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her five children: Jim (Sharon) Schieltz, of Luxemburg, Sandy (Lyle) Wulfekuhle of Farley, Joe Schieltz of Luxemburg, and Linda (Terry) Bockenstedt of Luxemburg, and Lisa (Scott) Lueken of Worthington; her 13 grandchildren: Jesse, Tim (Kelly) and Tony Schieltz, Amy (Anthony) Dowies, Jeff (MaryLynne) and Scott (Shyla Kae) Wulfekuhle, Abby (Luke) McDermott, Luke (Jenny) and Andy (Lynn) Bockenstedt, Katie (Justin) Weber, Jenna Lueken, Jared (McKayla Klostermann) and Jessica Lueken;  22 great-grandchildren: Jacob, Hanna and Grace Dowies, Nic, Natalie and Teddy Schieltz, Hailey, Katelyn, Josie, Mason, Avery and Dylan Wulfekuhle; Brock, Nate and Cole McDermott, Will, Emma, Tanner, Olivia, and Bryson Bockenstedt, and Beau and Nellie Weber; siblings: Alice Mae Schieltz of Luxemburg, Joann Besler of Hopkinton, Esther Klostermann of Cascade, and Gladys (Bob) Elgin of Peosta; in-laws: Wilma Lake of Dyersville and Elmer Schieltz of Luxemburg.

She is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers: James and Edward Lake; and in-laws: Ed Schieltz, Bill Besler, Floyd Klostermann, and Germaine Schieltz.

Michael D. Maloy

Michael D. Maloy, 83, of Dubuque, Iowa passed away on October 20, 2021, at Stonehill Care Center.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 25, 2021, at the Church of the Nativity with Msgr. James Miller officiating. Family and friends may gather after 9:00 a.m. Monday at the church until time of mass. Burial will be at 3:00 p.m. Monday at St. Patrick’s Garryowen Cemetery. Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road is assisting the family.

Michael was born May 23, 1938, the son of Dominic Frank Maloy and Helen Alberta Donovan. He was united in marriage to Geraldine (Geri) Lansing on November 22, 1973, at Nativity Church, and enjoyed nearly 48 years together.

After attending Bayless Business College, Michael began work at Maquoketa State Bank. He served as branch manager in Bernard, Sherrill, and worked many years at Worthington State Bank.

After retirement, Michael and Geri loved to travel. Adventures took them to Ireland and Alaska, as well as numerous trips in their motorhome to Minnesota, where they explored the many bike trails. They loved to celebrate at the Irish Fest in Milwaukee, as well as Cub’s and Brewer’s games. Michael was an avid Hawkeye, Cub, and Packer fan, as well as an avid fisherman in his early days. Mike enjoyed a cold Budweiser and would sit down with anyone to share a story, especially in his hometown Bernard.

Michael is survived by his wife, Geri; sisters-in-law, Patty McCabe, Gladys Didesch, Rosalind Henneberry, Inez (Charlie) Nutt, Vi (Bob) Pankow; brother-in-law Terry Cobry; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Alberta Maloy, sisters-in-law, Betty (Johnny) Welter, Esther Cobry; brothers-in-law Lawrence (Arlene) Lansing, Jack McCabe, Al Didesch, and Melvin Henneberry.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Nativity Church, Divine Word College, Hospice of Dubuque, and Camp Courageous.
