Kenneth P. Rolwes

Kenneth P. Rolwes, 85, of Dubuque, Iowa, passed away on October 11, 2025 at MercyOne Medical Center.

Friends and family may visit from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road. A Funeral Service will begin at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, at the funeral home with Fr. Raymond Burkle officiating. Private entombment will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Dubuque.

Ken was born on April 24, 1940, in Buena Vista, Iowa, the son of Norbert and Lucille (Schueller) Rolwes. He graduated from Holy Ghost School in Dubuque. On July 1, 1961, he married Billie J. Hanson at Holy Ghost Church, they had just celebrated 64 years of marriage together. Ken began working for Brookside Dairy, then onto Hilldale Dairy which later became Swiss Valley Farms, he retired in 2000.

He was a member of Teamsters Local 421, Catholic Order of Foresters and the Moose Lodge. He took great pride in his lawn, was a very competitive euchre player and bowler. He was also an extremely loyal Cubs fan. Ken loved being goofy with his grandkids and his great grandkids, they always called him “Silly Grandpa”.

Ken is survived by his wife of 64 years, Billie; daughters, Tara (Scott) Hamel of Dubuque, Tami (Chris) Jones of Carpenterville, IL; son, Tim (Beth) Rolwes of Peosta, IA; grandchildren, Ashley (Jason) Ryle, Amanda (Mike) Shegich, Noah Rolwes; great grandchildren, Randy and McKenzee Steadman and Thomas Shegich; sisters, Carol Wehling, Kathy (Rick) Schmitt; brother, Dennis (Deb) Rolwes.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Norbert and Lucille Rolwes and his brother-in-law Bob Wehling.

In lieu of flowers, a Kenneth P. Rolwes memorial fund has been established.

Sr. Marilyn Freking

Sister Marilyn (Veronica) Freking, OSF, 86, passed away on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at Mount Saint Francis, Clare House.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at Clare House Chapel, Mount Saint Francis Center. Guests unable to attend may participate via livestream at www.youtube.com/dubuquefranciscans. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of arrangements.

Sister Marilyn was born on June 29, 1939, in Le Mars, Iowa, the daughter of John and Mary (Waldschmitt) Freking. She entered the Sisters of St. Francis on September 3, 1957, and made her final profession of vows on August 12, 1963. Sister Marilyn received her bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Briar Cliff College in Sioux City, Iowa. She ministered as an educator in Illinois at St. Christopher School in Midlothian and Corpus Christi School in Chicago, where she also served as a pastoral associate.

She is survived by her sisters, Carole Freking, OSF, and Rose Ann (Tom) Harvat; brother, Ronald Freking; brother-in-law, Bob Ryba; step-sisters, Mary Zirul and Ann Holst; step-sisters-in-law, Janet Willenborg and Amy Florian; step-brother-in-law, Marty Malin; many nieces and nephews; and her Franciscan sisters.

She was preceded in death by her parents and step-father, Elmer Willenborg; sister, Betty Ruba; sister-in-law, Janice Freking; step-sisters, Joyce Malin and Jane Willenborg; step-brothers, Tom Willenborg and John Willenborg; and step-brothers-in-law, Elias Zirul and Dallas Holst.

The Sisters of St. Francis express their gratitude to Hospice of Dubuque and the Mount Saint Francis Center staff for their care and concern.

Barbara J. Walske

Barbara Jo (Larrison) Walske, 67, of Dubuque, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at Hawkeye Care Center, with her loving family by her side.

Friends and family may visit from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 1870 St. Ambrose Street, Dubuque, Iowa.

Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the church with Rev. Steven Rosonke officiating. A Nurses Honor Guard will be accorded at the church. Entombment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery.

Barb was born on July 1, 1958, in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of William “Bill” and Gladys (Meitl) Purcell. She received her RN from NITI and was an operating room nurse for over 30 years. Barb was united in marriage to Tom Walske on May 5, 2012, in Dubuque, Iowa.

Barbara was gifted with a beautiful son, PJ, with whom many memories were created around dogs, boating on the Mississippi River, and countless vacations – including ski trips and beach excursions. Her ongoing love for the water continued into marriage with her husband, Tom. Some of her favorite times were throwing an anchor out, reading the paper, and playing Scrabble on the pontoon.

Barb is survived by her husband, Tom Walske; her son PJ (Stacy) Larrison; step-daughter, Heather (Steve) Davis; step-son, Curt (Madi) Walske; step-grandchildren, Ben, Alec, and Leah Davis; sister, Cheri (Randy) Mason of Dubuque; brothers, Ken (Ruth Frank) Purcell of Pensacola, FL, and Dave (Patty) Purcell of Georgetown, TX; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and grand-fur-babies.

She was preceded in death by her parents William “Bill” and Gladys Purcell.

A Barbara Jo Walske memorial fund has been established.

Mark Kluesner

Mark Kluesner, 49, of Dubuque, passed away Wednesday, October 8, 2025.

Friends may greet the family from 4 p.m. to 7p.m. on Thursday, October 16, at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 John F. Kennedy Rd., Dubuque.

Mark was born February 25, 1976, the son of Loras and Susan (Schroeder) Kluesner.

Mark truly loved being in nature, and was a frequent hiker on the Heritage Trail. He also enjoyed spending time on the farm with his uncle, Jerry.

Mark is survived by his parents, Loras and Susan Kluesner, of Lutz, FL; his sister, Angie (Mike) Hume, of Dubuque; his nieces, Lily, Aliyah, and Autumn; his nephew, Brady and his great-nephew, Tate; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Larry and Madonna Kluesner; his maternal grandparents, Don and Millie Schroeder; his uncle, Tony “Suma” Kluesner; and his nephew, Conner Hume.

Timothy W. Folsom

Timothy “Tim” Wayne Folsom, 66, of Dubuque Iowa, passed away on Friday, October 10, 2025, at home after a courageous battle with cancer.

Per his wishes, he will be cremated, and a private celebration of life will be held. Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, is assisting the family

Tim was born on April 21, 1959, to Wayne Folsom and Joan (Scheffert) Folsom-Hanson. He graduated from Hempstead High School in 1977. Tim attended Northeast Iowa Community College and later worked for C.L. Swanson, Francois Masonry, and Eagle Window & Doors. He found his calling working for Paramount Ambulance where he transported clients with care and support, providing the occasional laugh in true Tim fashion. He retired from Paramount in March of 2025.

Tim has two beautiful daughters from a previous marriage, Hillary & Jodi, both of Cedar Rapids. In 2011 Tim married the love of his life, Kim Wong. To their family they were fondly referred to as the “im’s”. Together they enjoyed sitting in their yard by a fire and watching nature. Those who knew Tim will remember him singing karaoke, quoting movies, impersonating actors, and cracking jokes. He loved watching sports and supporting his nieces and nephews in their athletic endeavors. Tim was an avid John Wayne fan, loved a good card or board game, and dancing. Dedicated to weightlifting, he was known for his big muscles and strength. To the very end, his toughness and grit shined through as he fought his battle. We know he is at peace and hopefully eating all the Doritos and BLT pizzas in Heaven.

Tim is survived by his wife, Kim; daughters, Hillary (Matt) Carlson, and Jodi both of Cedar Rapids, IA; mother, Joan Hanson of Dubuque; sisters Cindy Folsom, and Tina (Dave) Adams, all of Dubuque; brother Lance (Karen) Hanson of Shawnee, KS; sisters Pam (Art) Munoz of Mooresville, NC, Carla Scarpaci of Yuma, AZ, and Lisa Folsom of Santee, CA; sister-in-law Melynn (Dave) Davis of Dubuque, IA; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his fathers, Wayne Folsom & Eugene “Huck” Hanson.

Melinda E. Dolan

Melinda Ellen Dolan, 72, passed peacefully at her home in Central City, Iowa on October 1, 2025.

She was born in Dubuque on June 20, 1953, the daughter of Arden & Dorothy Dolan.

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of our sweet Lindy. She brought warmth, laughter, fun and kindness to everyone she met, and her memory will remain in our hearts forever.

Her love of country was evident through her service to the United States Air Force resulting in her rank as Sergeant and a deployment to Okinawa, Japan.

After returning stateside, she worked at the FBI in the nations’ capitol at the end of the J. Edgar Hoover era. When settling back in her hometown, she dedicated her time to the United States Postal Service in Dubuque.

We were all so proud of her choices and her determination to be the best in everything she accomplished. She was a wonderful mom to Baby Jamie, the love of her life.

Whether she was spending time with family, helping friends, or pursuing her ambitions, Lindy lived each day with purpose and grace. She touched countless lives with her thoughtfulness and compassion.

Though our hearts are sad, we find comfort in the memories we share. Her legacy of love, strength, and kindness will live on through all who had the privilege of knowing her. We will miss her every day, but we are grateful for the time we had together. Rest in peace, Lindy. You will always be remembered, always be loved, and forever missed.

She was predeceased by her daughter Jamie, her parents, her baby brother Danny Dolan, and her nephew Danny Schriver.

She is survived by her siblings: Michelle Schriver, Kristen Bushman, Arden Dolan Jr. & Kerry Habel. She is also survived by her niece Jessie Bushman, nephews Ian Schriver, Jeremy Bushman, and Stephen Habel.

Arrangements were entrusted to Murdoch Funeral Home in Marion, Iowa.

Del Buchheit

Delphinus “Del” Remigius Buchheit died on October 11, 2025, at the age of eighty-eight from Alzheimer’s disease. He was born on September 26, 1937, on a small family farm near Festina, Iowa, the son of Florian and Fredia (Heying) Buchheit.

After spending his youth on the farm, he attended St. Lawrence Seminary High School in Mount Calvary, Wisconsin. He then attended Loras Academy and College in Dubuque, Iowa, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree.

Del had four children from his first marriage to Charlene (Meyer) Noel: Kathy Perry of Phoenix, AZ, Linda (Clark) Glover, of South Bend, IN, Mike (Kim) Buchheit of Phoenix, AZ, and Steve (Lee Ann) Buchheit of Dubuque, IA.

After college, he began his career as a teacher in Monona, Iowa, before relocating to Dubuque, where he launched a successful career as a State Farm agent in 1960. He retired in 2005 when his son Steve took over the agency.

Del was a loving and patient husband and father, an avid golfer, a bowler in his day, an accomplished gardener, a charter member of Thunder Hills Golf & Country Club, and a dedicated community member. He was quick with a joke and a helping hand, and a passionate fan of the Cubs, Packers, Hawkeyes, and Wahlert Golden Eagles.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn (Klotz) Buchheit; children Kathy, Linda, Mike and Steve; stepdaughters Kimberly Sufi (Peosta, Iowa) and Reverend Lynn (Tim) Thiede (Lost Nation, Iowa); ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; a brother, Joe (Linda) Buchheit, of Dubuque, Iowa; and sisters Toni Strey of Avondale, PA, Pat (Bob) Eldan of Lander, WY, Betty Topf, of Milwaukee, WI, and Jeanne (George) Lucero, of Socorro, NM.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Pam; and four brothers Sonny, Ambrose, Kelly, and Harold.

Visitation for Del will be held from 3 to 7 p.m., on Wednesday, October 15, 2025 at the Reiff Funeral Home in Peosta, Iowa.  Visitation will also be held after 9 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.

A Mass of Christian burial for Del will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 16, 2025 at Holy Family Catholic Church in New Melleray -Peosta, Iowa with Msgr. Thomas Toale Presiding.  Burial will be held in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Key West, Iowa.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Dubuque and Luther Manor on Hillcrest. They extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of both organizations for their dedication to Del and his care.

David J. Hawkins

David J. Hawkins, 80, of Cascade, Iowa, died Thursday, October 9, 2025 at St. Luke’s in Cedar Rapids, surrounded by his family.

Visitation for Dave will be held from 3 to 7 p.m., on Friday, October 17, 2025 at the Reiff Funeral Home in Cascade, Iowa.  Visitation will also be held after 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 18, 2025 at the Funeral Home.

Services for Dave will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the Cascade Presbyterian Church on Saturday, October 18, 2025 with Pastor Wayne Peach Presiding.  Burial will be held in the Cascade Community Cemetery in Cascade, Iowa with full Military Honors afforded by the Cascade American Legion Post #528.

Dave was born on January 7th, 1945, to Robert and Cleora Hawkins. He attended country school and then Monticello High School, graduating in 1962. After graduation, he attended the University of Dubuque until joining the Navy in August 1965. He served on the USS Grand Canyon, where he was a signalman. Dave remained proficient in morse code and semaphore until his death. After his military service, Dave finished college at the University of Dubuque, obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology in 1969. Dave returned to the family farm after graduating college. Dave and Marilyn (Biermann) were married in 1972 and lived in Farley for a short time before moving to the farm to raise their family. Dave retired from farming in 2003 and helped Marilyn open a restaurant and catering business in Cascade. Dave spent many years as a Sunday School teacher and elder at the Cascade Community Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the American Legion Post 528, served many leadership roles with the Dubuque County Farm Bureau, and was a member of the Cascade Community Cemetery Board.

Dave’s life was filled with jokes, pranks, and silliness. He brightened the lives of those around him. His laughter and lightheartedness were infectious. Dave’s favorite times were with family. He cherished every picnic, trip to see his grandchildren, every holiday, and summers with his children never wanting those precious moments to end – often going on one more last-minute adventure the day before school would start. Time with his children and grandchildren was filled with laughter and fun. From the greatest snow sledding jumps of all time, feats of strength in the dairy barn, huge rope swings, water fights, and towel snapping battles, he had a way to make any day more fun and a little less serious.  Dave was a kid at heart until his final days – his youthful soul wanting so badly to stay. His family will remember him as the best husband, dad, brother, and grandpa they could ever have – the true measure of a man.

Dave will be deeply missed by his wife Marilyn, sons Mike (Kim), Justin (Meghean), Eric (Tracy), and daughter Angie, seven amazing grandchildren: Sam, Logan, Cooper, Carter, Collin, Lily, and Keaton and his brother Rick (Marilyn) and sister Robin (Roy). In-laws Joanne Hawkins, Don and Janet, Leroy and Shirley, Kenny and Donna, Paul and Kathy, and Mark Biermann.

Dave is preceded in death by his parents Robert and Cleora, brother Charles, and foster sister Angie Sauser. Father and Mother-in-law, Raymond and Dorthy Biermann, brothers and sisters-in-law David and Doris, Robert and LaVonne Biermann.

Mark L. Milanich

Mark Louis Milanich, 63, of Galena, IL, completed his earthly journey suddenly on October 9, 2025, at home while surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by beloved life partner, Renee Tibbetts, his sister Kira Milanich, nephew Elias (Eli) Milanich, many cousins and in-laws, ex-wife Gabrielle Milanich, being a continuing inspiration through his art to countless keepers of his creations from around the world. He was preceded in death by his loving mother and father, Carol (Williams) and Robert Milanich.

Born on September 11, 1962, in Bloomington, IL, Mark came into this life richly blessed with sensitivity, vision, and a depth of perspective and emotion. As a young child he was fortunate to have the foundation of small-town living, enjoying participating in Little League, fishing, and so tenderly caring for a menagerie of small animals. Later, after moving to Morton Grove, IL as a young boy, he made lasting friendships while enjoying the adventures only teenaged boys can create. As a young man, Mark began to forge a character based on justice and peace; his was an appreciative, liberal perspective lasting throughout his life. He was also a rarity in that he applied his brilliant and deeply creative mind so diligently at the law firm of Benjamin, Gussin, Kallick, Erlich & Aronow for much of his adult life, contributing to the peace of mind of countless clients over the years. He was proud and fond of writing effective code for programs automating the process for estate planning. Wearing many hats throughout the years at his “day” job with the firm, he created for himself and family a professional stability, all while slowly developing his deeper vocation.

For his life’s passion was inarguably rooted in his artist’s hand and soul. Mark had the unique gift to see through to the spirit hidden in mundane objects that others would pass by, first in his creative writing, followed by wood carving, and most successfully as a lapidary artist, working with metal, stones and minerals. Cutting and grinding them into cabochons destined to become such exquisite pieces of jewelry, he approached each stone in such a way that allowed their hidden beauty to be revealed. It’s not an exaggeration to say he had the spirit of a Michelangelo within him, seeing what the metal, stone or mineral wanted to reveal and bringing that forth so beautifully and gracefully. He had a deceivingly subtle eye for form, movement and shape that could elevate a stone found on the shores of Lake Michigan into a work of art. It was undeniably his life’s passion. Melding that artist’s soul with a keen mind, he so very successfully owned and operated Earthly Icons Gems and Jewelry for over 14 years. He thrived in every hour he spent allowing his creativity to flow from his heart, through his hands and right into his newest project.

He was also a very gifted musician who could play guitar, piano and the saxophone. Music was a driving force in his life and even though he possessed an extremely eclectic taste in all music genres, Mark found each one to provide just the right environment for his mind to soar freely. He had a singing and speaking voice that was smooth, yet he could also be given to fits of laughter and goofy voices. A highlight for Mark was performing in a local drama group the roles of Wolf and Prince in the production of Into the Woods. Typically reserved in demeanor, he emerged shining when on stage. And if that was not enough, he also poured heart and soul into feeding his friends and family the most delicious meals. He could imagine and develop flavors, elevating even the most simply of meals into the experience of dining at a Michelin starred restaurant.

Mark was also fortunate to have discovered in mid-life the landscape that set his imagination aflame. The desert southwest, Utah, New Mexico, Arizona, those were his happy places. So impressively, he ventured into the Utah backcountry to spend days in solitude, hiking rugged territory, taking in the depth of red rock and canyon, challenging himself in ways that afforded him years of contemplation and self-understanding. Conversely, Scotland, with its verdant green forest and stony mountains, was the place he said his soul called “home”. While he worked hard at bettering not only his professional persona, he even more so and most importantly, continually worked to learn and remain true to his psyche.

While a perfectionist at heart, striving to manifest any idea into the best version of itself, Mark also loved deeply and fiercely. The oft-used phrase “Still waters run deep” is an apt description of his loving, passionate and creative character. The love he felt for Renee, his life partner, his sister Kira and nephew Eli, as well as so many friends and family members, was often so deeply conveyed to those around him. Meeting Renee, his life partner and settling in Galena with her, set free an unbounded joy and his abundantly creative soul, his love for her allowing him to soar in pursuit and development of his life’s passion. What a gift to receive later in life!

Mark was an extraordinary human being: kind-hearted, generous, and a loving and insightful best friend. The loss of his presence in our lives leaves in its wake an equal amount of extraordinary heartbreak. Such is the case with those we meet who house such wondrous souls. Although our grief is profound, we are the better for having had his presence in our lives. In his character, his artistry, his tenderness, kindness, and depth, he will remain forever in our hearts, making them so much the fuller than they were before.

Agnes I. Putz

Agnes I. Putz, 96, of Dyersville, formerly of Petersburg, Iowa passed away Friday, October 10, 2025, at MercyOne Hopsital in Dyersville, Iowa.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at Kramer-Morris Funeral Home in Dyersville, Iowa. Funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville, Iowa.  Rev. David Schatz will officiate.  A private burial will follow at Ss. Peter & Paul Cemetery in Petersburg, Iowa.

Agnes was born on April 29, 1929, in Greeley, Iowa, daughter of William and Minnie Bockenstedt. She married Walter M. Putz on September 12, 1950, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Greeley, Iowa.

Survivors include her children: Kathleen Willenborg of New Vienna, Diane (Jim) Hoeger of Earlville, Betty (Bill) Wessels and Lois (Mike) Steger, both of Dyersville, Chuck Putz of Holly, MI, Edward (Janet) Putz of Dyersville, Leo (Tammy) Putz of Farley, Mike (Shelley) Putz of Monroe, WI; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great great-grandchildren; sister, Helen Nurre of Manchester; and a sister-in-law, Maggie Bockenstedt of Earlville.

She was preceded in death by her parents, parents-in-law, Anthony and Marcella Putz; her husband, Walter, in 1995; children: Marvin and Rose Putz; granddaughters: Marsha and Laura Willenborg; son-in-law, Gary Willenborg; and several siblings and in-laws.

James J. McPoland

James J. “Jim” McPoland, age 57, of Dubuque, IA, completed his earthly journey on October 9, 2025, at Harmony Dubuque.  To honor Jim’s life, a private family graveside service will be held at Mt. Calvary Cemetery where full military honors will be accorded by the Dubuque Marine Corps League.  The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Jim’s family.

Jim was born on July 15, 1968, a son to Robert J. and JoAnn M. (Brimeyer) McPoland.  Jim honorably served his country with the U.S. Marine Corps and upon returning home to Dubuque, he began his early working years with Owl Furniture.  Jim Eventually spent some time with Consolidated Freight Ways as well before moving down south to help as a dispatcher with Price Trucklines.  He completed his years as an electrician with Thermo Fisher Scientific.  Jim took great pride in sharing his time and talents with each company he was with.  He met the love of his life, Lori Hohmann while working at Owl Furniture and the two were united in marriage and blessed with three children before she was sadly called home ahead of him in 2015.  Jim’s heart was permanently broken from then on and thankfully today, they are reunited once again.

In his free-time, Jim was a NASCAR fan through and through.  His favorite drivers were Rusty Wallace and Brad Keselowski, but every race was a good one in his mind and rarely did he ever miss one.  He was also a movie aficionado and had an extensive movie collection which he dove into on a regular basis.  Jim was also very social when time allowed and his friends at Shenanigan’s Bar became his second family over time.  Jim treasured each friendship he made throughout his life, and other than his family, there was no greater joy in his life.  We will miss Jim’s contagious smile moving forward and are forever grateful for the 57 years the Lord was kind enough to share him with us.  May the memories which remain help to comfort our hearts during the more difficult times ahead and may the health battles Jim has been forced to fight over the years, now be nothing more than a distant memory for him.

Pamela J. DeMeester

Pamela Jean DeMeester, age 75, of East Dubuque, Illinois, went home to be with the Lord on October 9, 2025, after courageously living with Alzheimer’s disease for ten years. Her family is deeply grateful for the unwavering care and devotion provided by her husband, Bob, throughout her illness.

Pam was born on August 7, 1950, in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of Donald and Janet (Schuster) Kirmse. She graduated from Dubuque Senior High School (1968) and earned an associate degree from Northeast Iowa Community College.

On July 8, 1972, Pam married Robert (Bob) DeMeester, the love of her life. They shared 53 wonderful years of marriage, raising their family, building lasting friendships, and creating countless joyful memories together.

Pam devoted 30 years of her career to Head Start, where she touched the lives of many children and families with her patience, warmth, and creativity.

A devoted member of GracePoint (Third Presbyterian Church) of Dubuque, Pam’s faith was the cornerstone of her life. She taught Sunday School for many years, directed Vacation Bible School, and also served as a deacon and elder on the church board.

Her lifelong passion for the water was centered on the Mississippi River, where she spent countless hours boating with her family—from peaceful days on sailboats to the excitement of waterskiing and tubing from power boats. Following her retirement, she fulfilled a personal dream with her own jet ski and enjoyed taking extended cruises with her husband on their 26-foot vessel.

Pam is survived by her husband, Bob, and their four children: Dawn (Nick) Buol of Winter Garden, FL; Craig (Melanie) DeMeester of St. Johns, FL; Angie (Jason) Mock of St. Joseph, IL; and Stephanie (Rich) Naylor of Ponte Vedra, FL.

She was a proud grandmother of 14 grandchildren: Allison (Michael) Fortin of Windermere, FL; Makaela (Tyler) Moores of Marion, IA; Evan, Ayden, Gracia, Ella, Briana, Myles, and Aaron DeMeester of St. Johns, FL; Elijah, Isaiah, and Hannah Mock of St. Joseph, IL; and Madison and Colton Naylor of Ponte Vedra, FL. She was also blessed with 3 great-grandchildren: Oliver and Presley Fortin and Sarai Moores.

Pam is survived by her sister, Cher (Joe) Hoffmann of LaMotte, IA, along with two nieces and two nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Janet Kirmse, and her sister, Debra Stein of Marion, IA.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 12th, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at GracePoint Church, 3100 Windsor Avenue, Dubuque. The Funeral Service will be on Monday, October 13th, at 10:30 a.m., also at GracePoint, with Pastor Jeff Durham officiating. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery.

David J. Beidler

David J. Beidler, 75, of Dubuque, Iowa, passed away on October 9, 2025, at home.

Friends and family may visit from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road. A Funeral Service will begin at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. A private family burial will be at a later date at Mount Olivet Cemetery.

David was born on November 6, 1950, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Robert and Donna (Weimerskirk) Beidler. He graduated from Wahlert Catholic High School. David began his career at the family business, Beidler Towing, before later joining the DOT. He was united in marriage to Barb Vyverberg on May 25, 1974, at St. Columbkille Catholic Church.

He enjoyed watching sports on TV, never picking a favorite team because he loved them all. While he went camping, fishing, and hunting (especially turkey hunting with his father-in-law) he wouldn’t have gone alone; he did it for the company. A people person through and through, he had the gift of gab and a knack for BS-ing that made him fun to be around. He once drove stock cars and was always up for going out to eat. He loved spending time with family, especially grilling out on the deck, where every meal was “the best food he ever had,” even if it wasn’t. He’d eat anything placed in front of him (except frog legs!). Family cookouts on the deck were his idea of Heaven. He loved chatting on the phone, especially with his buddies. He was also known for saying, “Take a mini break,” even if he’d only been working for a couple of minutes, a phrase that perfectly captured his fun, easygoing spirit.

David is survived by his wife of 51 years, Barb; children, Camy (Brad) Blackbourn, Kim (Travis) Hauri, Kara Beidler; “his girly-girls” Abby and Carly Blackbourne, and Anna Beidler; siblings Dennis (Molly) Beidler; siblings-in-law John “Eddie” (Julie) Vyverberg, Deb Kass, Richard (Joyce) Vyverberg, Lauri (Jeff) Trannel, and Lisa (Dave) Zboril; his god-children Emily Vyverberg and Rob Beidler; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, whom were very near and dear to him; grand-dogs Jet, Bailey B., Lucy Lu (whom David called Rusty), and Frank B.; and his Cairn Terrier, his “only son,” Ozzy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Donna; brother, Doug Beidler; parents-in-law Mel and Peggy Vyverberg; and brother-in-law Stan Kass.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Luther Manor, and Caleb “Spook” Kass, his equipment go-to guy.

David J. McDermott

David J. McDermott, age 56, of Dubuque, passed away on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at UnityPoint Health Finley Hospital with his loving mother by his side.  To celebrate David’s life, family and friends may visit from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., on Monday, October 13, 2025, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street.  Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery at a later date.

David was born on October 11, 1968, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Shirley and Edward (McDermott) Apel.

David graduated from Wahlert Catholic High School.  He was a hard worker who worked at several casinos including the Silver Eagle and Diamond Jo.  David was lastly employed as the manager of the bus depot at Trailways until his health issues forced his early retirement.  He loved learning new things and was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time on the computer.  David was a good person who always took care of those less fortunate than himself.  He will be greatly missed.

Shirley Jean Steger

Shirley Jean Steger, age 82, of Dubuque and formerly of Balltown, passed away on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at Stonehill Health Center.  To celebrate Shirley’s life, family and friends may visit from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 12, 2025,  at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street.  Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Emmetsburg, Iowa, at a later date.

Shirley was born on April 15, 1943, in Emmetsburg, Iowa, the daughter of Emmet and Ruth (Beatty) Brennan.

Shirley graduated from Emmetsburg Catholic High School, Class of 1961.  She married Gerald Steger on October 8, 1966, in Balltown.  She and Gerald had 2 children together before deciding to go their separate ways.  She was employed as an aide with Hills and Dales for 32 years until her retirement.  In her free time, Shirley enjoyed gardening, going to garage sales with Trey and Gabby, playing Bingo, baking and making candy.  She was famous in Balltown for her homemade popcorn balls every Halloween.  She was a social butterfly and made fast friends wherever she went.  Shirley loved her family above all and was very proud of all their accomplishments, something she mentioned frequently to anyone that would listen.  She always looked forward to visits and catching up on what everyone was doing.  She especially enjoyed her chocolate malt deliveries from Zoey and Hailey.  Shirley was a wonderful, hard working woman and we will miss her tremendously.
