Thomas Haas

Thomas “Tom” Haas, 67, of Dubuque passed away on Saturday April 21, 2018 at Stonehill Care Center in Dubuque, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his family. To honor Tom’s life, funeral services will be held at 5:30 p.m., on Wednesday, April 25, 2018, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street, with Deacon John Stierman officiating. To celebrate Tom’s life, family and friends may visit from 3:00 p.m., until the time of services at 5:30 p.m., on Wednesday, April 25, 2018, at Behr Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Tom was born on March 20, 1951, at Xavier Hospital in Dubuque, son of Wilbert “Bill” and Rosemary (Mussmann) Haas.

Tom spent his younger years growing up in Dubuque surrounded by his loving family, making countless friends along the way, and all while obtaining his education at Sacred Heart Catholic School and Wahlert High School, until he eventually graduated in 1969. He would go on to work at H&W Motor Express, and also found the opportunity to own and operate the Chorale Club Tavern for awhile. But sadly, after his surprisingly failed audition with Chippendales, Tom reluctantly became a very talented, and self-taught artist with Advanced Designs, where he faithfully devoted over 40 years of his working career as a graphic designer. Tom was also a devoted member of the Moose Lodge #355, where he happily and graciously drank all of the drinks which others were generous enough to buy in honor of his grand presence! In his spare time, Tom enjoyed casting a baited hook under the sun, venturing into the timber for a good day of hunting, joining his friends for an evening of league bowling, gathering all of the trump cards just waiting to call Euchre, a wind free day of chasing skeet across the skyline, spending a sunny day on the links chasing a little white ball around, watching his favorite race car driver take first place, and any chance to see his Cubbies or Da Bears take the field. Tom was also gifted with a wonderful sense of humor which routinely had all of those around him not only smiling, but a regular belly laugh was not uncommon if Tom was involved. Sadly, the Lord has decided to call our Tom home today, and with him go pieces of our hearts which only he can care for until we see his amazing smile once again. We will miss Tom more than he’d ever imagine, but we take comfort in knowing that he’s reunited with our Dad playing perfect games of cribbage together with no cheating allowed. We are also forever grateful that now he and Patrick Swayze are able to perfect their dance routines, that other “treasure collectors” around town will finally have a better chance at making a great deal on the rarest of finds in their own minds, and that Mom will not have to threaten to call the orphanage anymore when Tom’s not behaving! We miss you dearly Tom, thanks for all the love, laughs and memories.

Those left to cherish Tom’s memory include

his mother,
Rosemary Haas, Dubuque, IA;

his siblings,
Kathy (Pat) Chamberlain, Rochester, MN,
Pam (Steve) Hiatt, Dubuque, IA
and Gary (Annette) Haas, Dubuque, IA;

because of his uncanny resemblance to Uncle Buck, Tom was beloved by his nieces,
Julia Haas, Rachel Klein, Chelsea Fulton and Tessa Hiatt and his 3 great-nephews and 6 great-nieces;

and his friends which were like family,
Becky and Pete Kretz.

Tom was preceded in death by his father, Wilbert “Bill” Haas; and a sister in infancy, Patricia Ann.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Engelman at Medical Associates, and the staff at Stonehill Care Center.

Bonnie R. Dee

Bonnie R. Dee, age 81, of Dubuque, was called home peacefully at 2:07 p.m., on Friday, April 20, 2018, at home, surrounded by her loving family. To honor Bonnie’s life, funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, April 26, 2018, at Holy Spirit Parish, Holy Ghost Church, 2921 Central Avenue, with Rev. Andrew Awotwe-Mensah officiating. To celebrate Bonnie’s life, family and friends may visit from 9:00 a.m., until the time of services at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, April 26, 2018, at Holy Spirit Parish, Holy Ghost Church. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street, is in charge of arrangements.

Bonnie was born on March 6, 1937, in Dubuque, Iowa, daughter of Ralph and Stella (Stecklein) Huber.

Bonnie was very proud to have spent her entire life as a Dubuquer; surrounded by family, eventually meeting the love of her life and raising a family of her own, along with making countless friends during her 81 year earthly journey right here in God’s country. Bonnie and Elmer “Dick” Dee were united in marriage on June 27, 1964, and they were truly blessed with 24 years together, and 2 wonderful daughters, before he was sadly called home ahead of her on October 7, 1988. Bonnie was a continually committed and hard worker who faithfully invested over 19 years as a CNA at both Stonehill Care Center and St. Dominic’s Villa, and would even go on to devote another 26 years of her working career with Honkamp Krueger, until her well earned retirement had finally been achieved. In her free-time, Bonnie always enjoyed the challenge of a good crossword puzzle, earning a triple word score on her scrabble board, finding a worthy competitor for the cribbage board, the joy of placing the final piece in her current jigsaw puzzle, discovering a little time for relaxation in her comfy recliner with her trusty remote within arms reach, or even sitting down around the table with her card club friends with whom she spent over 53 years talking, teaching and trumping, all with a contagious smile worn proudly upon her face. Our hearts ache at their core today with the undeniable reality that our dear Bonnie has spent her last opportunity to actively adore and appreciate her deeply loved family and friends. She thankfully leaves behind an abundance of beautiful memories to help heal and mend our broken hearts for now, and we pray we’ll find peace in time by trusting in the fact that Bonnie and Dick will both be waiting with open arms when, in due time, the Lord inevitably decides it’s our time to join Him, and them once again. Thank you very much Bonnie for all of the love, lessons and patience you’ve shared along the way and know we’ll never forget your light which shown so vividly within the lives of all who knew and loved you!

Those left to cherish Bonnie’s memory include

her daughters,
Lisa Dee, Galena, IL

Gigi was united in marriage to the love of her life, John “Jack” Weber, on May 28, 1955, at Sacred Heart Church in Dubuque. The two were blessed with 55 years together, and 2 adored children, before Jack was called home ahead of her, almost 7 earthly years to the day for their eternal reunion this morning, on April 21, 2011. Gigi was raised with a strong work ethic, and she would diligently put those lessons to use at the Dubuque Packing Company for 40 years until her well deserved retirement eventually arrived. Gigi was an active, faith filled woman who always enjoyed spending time with her friends at her beloved St. Mary’s Church, as well as social gatherings at the Moose Lodge. In her free-time, Gigi could often be found decorating, making sure everything was in “just the right place” in her tidy home, religiously manicuring her perfect lawn, practicing her throwing technique for the Jack’s Trucking Team at the bowling alley, or creating a delicious meal and sweet treats for her family to enjoy around the dinner table. Gigi was also a talented quilter who has created countless treasured keepsakes for family and friends over the years. She and Jack also traveled extensively for most of their lives and loved any opportunity to soak up the sun, sights and sounds in any new destination. However, beyond a doubt, spending time with her family brought Gigi the greatest joy imaginable. She looked forward to any opportunity where family bonding and memories could be created, especially if doting on her forever precious grandchildren and great-grandchildren could be achieved. We are deeply saddened today at the loss of our sweet mother, grandmother, sister and friend, but we thankfully discover comfort in the fact that she is now reunited with her beloved Jack, once again, and that the Lord was gracious enough to share our wonderful Gigi with us for 91 years.
