The DRA announced the recipients of its 2026 Core Grant Program, awarding $1,261,154.50 to 64 nonprofit and governmental organizations across Iowa, Wisconsin and Illinois. This year’s Core Grant program attracted 152 applications requesting more than $7.59 million, making it one of the most competitive grant cycles in the DRA’s history. Following a comprehensive review process, the DRA Board of Directors approved funding recommendations totaling nearly $1.3 million.

The Core Grant Program provides grants of up to $50,000 annually and supports projects that advance the DRA’s strategic philanthropic focus on people attraction, including population growth, retention and tourism. Preference is given to capacity-building projects and investments that create lasting organizational impact.

“The demand for funding continues to demonstrate the incredible work being done throughout our region,” said Lori Thielen, Chair of the DRA Board of Directors. “We are proud to invest in organizations whose projects will strengthen our communities, improve quality of life and help position the tri-state area for long-term success.”

Of the 152 applications reviewed, 64 organizations received funding, representing projects across arts and culture, civic and community development, education, emergency services, governmental entities, health and human services, and veterans organizations. Organizations located in Iowa received 88.3% of the total funding, with additional grants supporting organizations in Wisconsin (8.3%) and Illinois (3.3%). Four organizations received new multi-year grant awards, while four organizations are receiving funding as part of previously approved multi-year commitments.

“Every application was carefully reviewed using our strategic funding priorities,” said Mandy Miller, Chief of Staff. “Although we are unable to fund every worthy request, our goal is to invest in projects that will create measurable, long-term benefits for the communities we serve.”

The DRA’s Core Grant Program remains a cornerstone of the organization’s philanthropic mission, supporting projects that strengthen regional amenities, improve organizational capacity and enhance the quality of life throughout the tri-state region.

Since 1985, the DRA has awarded thousands of grants totaling more than $68 million to organizations throughout Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin.
