Deanna E. Gulyash

Deanna Edna Gulyash, 86, of Dubuque, died Monday, April 8, 2024, at Luther Manor.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 12, at the Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 JFK Road, where a visitation will be held after 9:00 a.m. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Deanna was born on April 15, 1937, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of George and Edna (Borek) Arvanitis. She married Ron Gulyash Sr. on August 31, 1957, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dubuque; he preceded her in death on November 13, 1987.

Deanna graduated from Dubuque Senior High School. She worked in food service at the Busy Bee and Kentucky Fried Chicken and at Sears.

She was an avid Chicago White Sox, Bear and Bulls fan. She despised the Chicago Cubs.

Deanna and her sisters were affectionately called the “Golden Girls”. Together they traveled both domestically and abroad. Deanna enjoyed playing cards, especially euchre. In her younger years Deanna and her husband formed a card club with their friends, where she remained active until she was in her 80’s.

She is survived by her sons, Ron (Christine) Gulyash and Rick Gulyash, both of Dubuque; grandson, Bobby Gulyash (Teresa Collins); several nieces and nephews; and brother and sisters-in-law, Rita Reicher, Mary Weidemann, Joseph J. (Barb) Gulyash, Anita Gulyash, and Theresa Gulyash.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Angie (Everett) Rittenburg and Dorothy (Clarence “Whitey”) Kobs; brothers and sister-in-law, Steve and Jim Gulyash and Virginia Stoffel; cousins, Ron Hadraba and George Arvanitis, and beloved dog, Sandy.

In lieu of flowers a Deanna Gulyash Memorial Fund has been established.

Deanna’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the entire staff at Luther Manor and to nurses Angela and Kim at Hospice of Dubuque.
