Francis J. “Frank” Lahey, age 60, of Sherrill, passed away on Monday, July 20, 2026, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.  To celebrate Frank’s life, family and friends may visit from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., on Sunday, July 26, 2026, at the Dubuque Area West Pastorate, Church of the Resurrection, 4300 Asbury Road.  There will be a parish scripture prayer service held prior to visitation at 1:45 p.m.  Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, July 27, 2026, at the Church of the Resurrection, with Rev. Mark Murphy officiating.  Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Balltown, Iowa.  Behr Funeral Home is assisting Frank’s family.

Frank was born on July 31, 1965, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Eugene Francis and Dorothy Mary (Kress) Lahey.

Frank earned his Bachelors Degree in Engineering from DeVry University in Chicago and recently completed his Associates Degree in Fire Science.  He was employed at John Deere Dubuque Works in several engineering roles since 2007, most recently as a Fire Engineer.  He has also been a member of the Sherrill Volunteer Fire Department for 23 years, and served on the board prior to joining the department.  Frank married Lori Marie Bonifas on July 30, 1988, at the Church of the Resurrection.  They raised 3 wonderful children together and would have celebrated their 38th wedding anniversary in a few days.  Frank’s Catholic faith was very strong, and he enjoyed attending Mass with his wife and family.  He loved his family and would do anything he could for them.  In his free time he enjoyed any activity that took him into the great outdoors.  He was an avid hunter, loved fishing and was a member of the Dubuque Bass Club.  Frank enjoyed side by side riding, Spyder rides and playing golf.  He enjoyed traveling with Lori and the kids, especially their yearly fishing trips.  A spirited game of Euchre with family and friends was always a crowd pleaser.  Frank was an outstanding example of putting faith and family first in his life.  He was always on the lookout for a way to pay it forward.  He was a wonderful husband, dad, grandpa and brother.  Frank and his recognizable laugh will be deeply missed.
