Irma was born on February 3, 1931, in Bernard, Iowa, to Adolph P. Mesch and Elizabeth (Zeiser) Mesch. She received her education through the 12th grade and graduated from St. Columbkille High School in 1949.
On April 10, 1951, she married the love of her life, Donald Gibbs. Together they built a life rooted in faith, family, and hard work until Donald’s passing on November 10, 2007.
A devoted homemaker, Irma lovingly cared for her family while also working alongside her husband on the family farm. She found joy in baking her famous cinnamon rolls, sewing, quilting, carpentry, gardening, making crafts, and preserving the fruits of her labor through canning. Her large garden was a source of pride and a blessing to family and friends.  She also enjoyed camping with family, traveling the United States, and also trips to the Philippines and Ireland.
Irma’s Catholic faith was the cornerstone of her life. She faithfully volunteered at her church for many years and generously shared her time and talents with others. She was a dedicated 4-H helper and an active member of the Jackson County Farm Bureau Homemakers and Catholic Daughters since 1966. She also loved to dance and treasured the many moments spent with family and friends.
Irma will be remembered for her unwavering faith, gentle kindness, generous spirit, and deep love for her family. Her legacy of hard work, compassion, and service will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her. May she rest in the peace of Christ.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Susan Williams, Charles “Chuck” (Kathie) Gibbs, Mark Gibbs, Paul (Sonja) Gibbs, John (Karen) Gibbs, and Patrick Gibbs; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters in-law, Harold (Joyce) Gibbs, Karen Gibbs, Larry Gibbs, and Steve (Mary) Gibbs; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
