Robin R. Nixon
Robin Renee Nixon, 63, of Dubuque, Iowa, passed away from ovarian cancer peacefully surrounded by her wife and daughter.
Robin was born on March 16, 1963 to the late Marilee (Green) Peters in Encino, California.
She is preceded in death by her mother Marilee Peters, brothers Richard and Steven Peters, and father-in-law Thomas Schmidt.
Robin is survived by her loving wife Pamela Schmidt, daughter Daniela (Ryan) McLellan, sister Theresa Fowler, mother-in-law Karol Schmidt, sister-in-laws Carrie (Dave) Kirkpatrick, Kelly (Jennifer) Schmidt-Jordan, Traci (Lance) Andre, as well many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was an incredible athlete and excelled at any new sport she tried. She not only played rugby for the Italian National team, she was also awarded MVP playing for the All Army Softball Team. Robin was so proud of her military service, joining the Army in 1984. As Military Intelligence soldier, she was stationed at Fort Old, CA, Fort Huachuca, AZ, 650th Military Intelligence Group, Vicenza, Italy, and the 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, NY. Her military career abruptly ended after injuries she sustained during a grueling 20-mile ruck march during a train up for Desert Storm. She was proud to be a member of the Tri-State Women Warriors, creating lasting connections with ladies from all branches and backgrounds of our military services.
Robin and Pam had some incredible adventures living all over the United States for Pam’s military service. They made friends and community all over including California, Georgia, and Virginia. But their greatest time was spent in Iowa, putting down roots with family and creating memories in their home or camping in their RV. Their homes were always filled with laughter, food, and decorations that could not be outdone. Their displays at Halloween, Christmas, and 4th of July were legendary.
Robin loved being a mother and enjoyed visiting her daughter and favorite son and her grand puppies and grand kitties for new adventures. Some of their favorite trips included their visits to see them in Tennessee, Maine, and their mother daughter trip to Florida.
She also thrived as a cat mom. She never went looking for cats, but they always found her. From all the cats she rescued from the streets of Italy, Georgia, New Hampshire, and the barn in Illinois, to the ones from the shelter in California. They brought her so much comfort throughout her entire life until the very end.
Robin was a true California girl and loved the beach and the ocean. She loved to ride motorcycles from the age of 10 and continued that love with riding their BMW’s, Spyders, and Scooters. She never met a stranger, within 5 minutes of knowing her, you had a friend for life. Her love language was cooking for the people she loved. She may have been a picky eater but she loved sharing her ribs, spaghetti, and anything Pam wanted to try.
There will be visitation with the family on Friday July 3rd from 11:00 am and until 1:00 pm with a Celebration of Life to follow at 1:00 pm at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Funeral Home located at 2659 John F Kennedy Rd. In lieu of flowers (she was allergic) please consider making a donation in her name to the animal rescue of your choice or the Tri-State Women Warriors.”
