Judith M. Winter

Judith Marie (Korte) Winter passed away April 23, 2026 at the age of 81.  Judy was born to Oscar and Viola (Bussan) Korte on October 21, 1944 in Galena, Illinois. She was a 1962 graduate of Galena High School.

On September 11, 1965, Judy married Cleland Winter at St. Mary’s Church in Galena, IL. Together they raised two sons, Steve and Doug.

Judy enjoyed reading, crafting, gardening, and traveling. She was an active member of her church and community. At Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Scales Mound, she was a catechism teacher and member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She served on the Scales Mound School Board and volunteered as a Grandma Helper in the elementary school. She loved spending time with family and friends, and will be fondly remembered for her Christmas cookies, picnics under the apple trees, and her love of a good garage sale. She will be dearly missed.

Judy is survived by her sons, Steve and Doug (Susan) Winter; siblings, Elizabeth “Pete” Korte, Jim (Barb) Korte, and Chuck (Kris) Korte; grandchildren, Lauren Winter (Taylor Becktold), Erin (Patrick) Grund, and Bradley Winter; several sisters-in law, brothers-in-law, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

Judy is preceded in death by her husband and parents; siblings, Carolyn Conness, Rosalie Rader, Lois Miller, Marian Levins, Ruth Hasken; daughter-in-law Angie Winter, and several brothers-in-law.

The visitation will be held Tuesday, April 28, 2026 from 4-7 pm at the Miller-Steinke Funeral Home in Scales Mound, with a parish prayer service at 3:30 p.m. Additional visitation hours will be held at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Scales Mound on Wednesday, April 29, 2026 from 9:15-10:15 am, followed by the funeral service at 10:30 am, with Fr. Robert Chinnapan officiating. Burial will be in the Scales Mound Township Cemetery.
