He married Mary Lou (McClain) Hutton on January 27, 1962 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. They celebrated 56 years of marriage and were blessed with four children.

His love of sports showed in the many ball teams he played with and many, many rounds of golf he played. After high school, Skip signed with the White Sox organization as a pitcher. Skip served in the Army in Stuttgart, Germany and played on a winning baseball team for the 7th Army in 1958-1959. He also played for many local teams including the Lux Club, Kall Inn, Interstate Power Co., Halls and many more. Skip played in the Kiwanis Softball Tournament in 1987. He was elected to the Dubuque Fast Pitch Hall of Fame in 1986 and also served as President of the organization for 6 years.

Skip retired from Interstate Power Company/Alliant Energy after 43 years. He then worked as a ranger at The Meadows Golf Course for 17 years. Skip was recognized as Volunteer of the Year at Hillcrest Family Services where he volunteered at Reflections in the Park for 16 years.

Skip was a people person who brightened the lives of most everyone he met. He was always smiling and loved swapping stories with great friends. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou; four children, David (Judy) Hutton of Indianola, Stephen (Michelle) Hutton of Muscatine, Ann (Kimball) Behning of Springville, Sara (Steve) Bye of Plainfield, IL; seven grandchildren Ryan (Ashley), Alex, Adam, Peter, and Joshua Hutton, Riley and Brady Bye; four great-grandchildren William, London, Oliver and Adrian Hutton; sister-in-law Connie Hutton of Albuquerque, NM; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
