Sonny R. Goble
Sonny Ray Goble, 77, of Wyoming, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, August 3, 2026, at home.
Sonny was born February 21, 1949, in Iola, Kansas, to Everett and Ethel (Woodring) Goble. Sonny was 1 of 8 siblings and was always very proud they were all still living. Sonny attended grade school at Picqua Catholic School, and later graduated from Humbolt High School in Kansas. After a couple of years of junior college, Sonny took the road doing construction. That is what led him to Iowa where he met some great friends, who are still his close friends today. He retired from the Carpenter’s Union in 2011.
On October 10, 1987, he married his true love, Kimberly Ann Watters. They were married at their farmhouse in Monmouth, Iowa, surrounded by family and friends. In 2001, they moved to their acreage they loved so much in rural Wyoming, IA, where they still reside today.
Sonny loved camping in the early years in a tent on a sandbar and later came the campers and parks. He loved fishing, hunting and family get togethers. Sonny was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and Bears, the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Kansas City Chiefs.
Above all, Sonny was a man of faith and never missed a chance when we were in turmoil or crisis to say, “KEEP THE FAITH.” Sonny was always a true dedicated family man and was very proud of his 3 kids; Sarah (Shey) Bauer from Preston, IA, Cody (Brittany) Goble from Wyoming, IA, and Jaimie (Ethan) Lightner from Monticello, IA. But his greatest joy his kids gave him was his 7 grandkids whom he was so proud of; Liam (Kaysia Hayes) Bauer, Maquoketa, Landon Bauer, Iowa City, Logan Bauer, Miles, Mackylie Marlowe, and Everlee Lightner of Monticello, Aria and Reese Goble, Wyoming, IA and his newest member to the family, Bowen Sonny David Bauer, his 1st great-grandson and he was so proud of him. Bowen is the son of Liam and Kaysia.
Sonny is survived by his wife Kim and his children, grandchildren and great grandson. His brothers Jim (Jean) Goble, Springfield, IL, Everett (Judy) Goble, Iola, KS. and Rick Goble, Iola, KS. His sisters Linda (Jim) Derrig of CA., Pat Gardner, Iola, KS, Sue (Clint) Hardin, Augusta, KS and Debbie Burk, Iola KS, and many nieces and nephews. Sonny was preceded in death by his parents, parents-in-law, nephew Phalen Goble and brother-in-law, Junior Burk.
A special thank you to the OJ ambulance and Maquoketa paramedics.
“You’re my cornerstone for making memories.” I miss you.
A gathering of family and friends celebrating Sonny’s life will be held from 4 to 7 P.M., Monday, August 10, 2026, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. A private burial will be held at the Monmouth, Iowa Cemetery.
