Gerald L. “Jerry” DeLarm, 98, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at the Mill Valley Care Center in Bellevue, Iowa.

Gerald Leo DeLarm was born March 2, 1928, in Charlotte, Iowa, to Archie and Laura (Shirley) DeLarm.  He attended school in Wyoming, Iowa.  Jerry was united in marriage to Freda M. Covington on March 25, 1951, in Monticello, Iowa.  Shortly after their marriage, Jerry went to serve his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.

After returning from his military service, Jerry made his life farming and milking cows in the Wyoming, Monmouth, Onslow and Canton areas.  He was a hard worker who also knew how to take time and enjoy life and time spent with family and friends.  Jerry loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting, and camping at the river.  He enjoyed many trips to Canada, Missouri, Ohio, and Yellowstone National Park.  Jerry especially enjoyed celebrating birthdays, as he believed you should take time to go to dinner and be with family.  He loved animals, large and small, and believed all were God’s creatures.  Jerry was a member of the Wyoming American Legion, the Maquoketa V.F.W. and the Andrew AMVETS.

Those left to honor his memory include his children Gary (Pam) DeLarm of Maquoketa, IA, Dale DeLarm of Delmar, IA, Kathleen (John) Martin of Bernard, IA, and Brad (Janet) Petersen of North Liberty, IA; 10 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren; sisters Linda Eby of Wyoming, IA, and Donna Burroughs of Marion, IA; brother Clifford (Deb) DeLarm of Monmouth, IA; brother–in–law Eldon Covington of Monticello, IA; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Freda; parents; daughter–in–law Marjorie DeLarm; brothers Lavern DeLarm and Eugene DeLarm; sisters Betty, Bessie, and Betsy “Pat”; and great grandson Tyler Bohannon.

A celebration of Jerry’s life will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, August 31, 2026, at Christ’s Community Church in Monmouth, IA.  Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 A.M., Monday, August 31, 2026 prior to the service at Church.  Burial will be at the Oakwood Cemetery Monticello, Iowa, with military honors.  The Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa is caring for the family.
