Joyce M. (Fassbinder) Wagner, 89, passed peacefully at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics on Sunday, August 30, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Joyce was born February 24, 1937, in Platteville, WI, the daughter of Raymond and Lucille (Loeffelholz) Bailey.

Joyce was a woman of kindness, patience, and quiet strength. She devoted herself to her family and found great joy in caring for those she loved. Of all her roles, Joyce was the proudest of being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

For most of her life, she worked cleaning homes for various families and businesses. While caring for people’s homes, she forged many lifelong friendships along the way. Her strong work ethic and independence garnered respect and admiration from those around her.

A talented seamstress, Joyce transformed fabric into treasured creations with remarkable skill and attention to detail. She also loved crocheting and quilting, always eager to keep her hands busy and create something meaningful for others. While many enjoyed receiving her gifts, she also took the time to teach what she knew, creating fond memories with loved ones.

Joyce loved gathering around a table for bingo, dominos and card games, listening to music, watching figure skating and gymnastics, and taking care of her house full of plants. She found happiness in life’s simple pleasures. Her warmth and infectious laugh created countless memories that will continue to comfort those who knew her.

Joyce is lovingly remembered by her husband, Paul; her children, Kevin (Rhonda) Wallace, Susan (Keith) Spradling, Aleta Beuter, Wanda Wallace, Mary (Bruce) Graham, Mark (Kelly Jo) Fassbinder; Paul’s children and their families; her sisters, Molly (Ken) Angersola and Alice Hahn; and her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom brought tremendous joy to her life.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Joan Wenzel, Kenny Bailey, and Donnie Bailey; her previous husband, Robert L. Fassbinder, as well as other friends and family.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of Grand Meadows in Asbury, Mercy Hospital in Dubuque, and UIHC for the care, dignity, and kindness shown to Joyce throughout her journey. They would also like to thank all of Joyce’s friends and relatives for their love and support over the years.

Though her hands are now at rest, the love she stitched into the lives of her family and friends will remain forever. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Dubuque Arboretum & Botanical Gardens.

Visitation will be from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm Friday, September 4, 2026, at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home & Crematory.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Joyce will be 10:30 am Saturday, September 5, 2026, at Church of the Resurrection. Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Key West.
