Mildred Jane Bailey, 94, of Dubuque, passed away Saturday, September 19, on her 73rd wedding anniversary, at Luther Manor Grand Meadows.

Friends may greet the family from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Funeral Service on Monday, September 28, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 1780 White St., Dubuque. Pastor Nathan Frambach will officiate. Interment will be in Linwood Cemetery. Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Funeral Home and Crematory is entrusted with arrangements.

Millie was born March 22, 1932 in Dubuque, the daughter of George and Wilma (Schloz) Dorschner. She married the love of her life, William Bailey on September 19, 1953 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Dubuque. He preceded her in death on May 31, 2018.

Millie graduated from Dubuque Senior High School with the class of 1950. She was employed at J.C. Penney in the jewelry department, and Roshek’s in the dress department.

Millie was a long time member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church.

Millie loved doing crossword puzzles, playing games and cards with her sisters and friends, and was very hard to beat at Scrabble, her favorite game. She never missed an episode of Wheel of Fortune. In their early years, she and Bill took many trips to Las Vegas to try their luck at the slots, and also enjoyed going to “the boat”.

Her family dearly loved the brownies she made for all occasions, and she always had vanilla ice cream. She was a very loving and caring sister and aunt, and will be greatly missed.

Even though she did not have children, she treated her nieces and nephews as her own.

Millie is survived by two sisters, Marie Strohmeyer, and Debra (John) Ruh, both of Dubuque; her nieces and nephews, Bob, Rick, Kris, Don, Kathleen, Ryan, Kevin, Bernie, and Cindy; and numerous great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sisters, Arlene Houck and Jean (Dave) Gantenbein; and her niece, Becky Gantenbein.   

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Matthew Lutheran  Church or Hospice of Dubuque.
