Patricia C. Roth

Patricia Catherine Roth, 84, of Dubuque, died Sunday, September 6, 2026, at MercyOne Dubuque Medical Center.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, September 20 from 1-4 p.m. at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home and Crematory. Please come to honor a life well lived, filled with creativity and love, and to enjoy some of Pat’s favorite desserts and coffee.

Patricia was born on December 7, 1941, in Oelwein, IA, the daughter of Harold and Dorothy (Schneider) Demkier. On June 24, 1961, she married the love of her life, Albert Roth, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Dubuque. He preceded her in death on February 7, 2023 after 62 years of marriage.

Pat first saw Al from her front steps and told her mom that he was the man she would marry, even before she met him. Theirs was a long and loving partnership, with family at the center of the life they built together. They raised five children and shared in everything they did. Pat made delicious meals, especially her potato salad, and prepared applesauce, pies, and pickles from the gardens Al tended. Together, they owned Roth Ceramics, where Pat artistically painted the pieces, especially their beautiful eyes, that Al poured and fired in the kiln. They sold their creations locally, and those fortunate enough to have one of their twinkling ceramic Christmas trees have a lasting reminder of their work together.

Pat nurtured her family with her presence, moving seamlessly between her roles as wife, mother, and grandmother as well as working full time. There were always grandchildren flying around in homemade superhero capes or sitting on the counters helping her bake. Days were filled with time together as stories were read, songs were sung around the campfire, and popcorn and cheese trips were taken.

Pat was a creative soul who found beauty and art all around her, especially in nature. She loved sunsets and clouds and would take drives simply to enjoy them. She treasured the sounds of birds, the fragrance of her lilacs, peonies, and irises, the sight of the first roses blooming each spring from her mother’s rosebush, and quiet moments spent fishing by the lake. Pat was also resilient, meeting adversity with strength and determination.

Throughout her life, Pat was an avid quilter who generously shared her beautiful creations. She was endlessly curious, always searching for new patterns, techniques, and fabrics, a passion she maintained until her final days. She passed her love of quilting on to her daughter and granddaughter, who will continue that legacy. From hand-quilted wedding quilts for each grandchild to scrappy picnic blankets, baby blankets, and Christmas blankets, her family is grateful to have these lasting reminders of the love and warmth of her embrace for years to come.

Memories of Pat will be cherished by all who had the privilege of being part of her life. She was always learning and creating while making the most of each moment she shared with those she loved. She leaves an empty chair for her family and friends, but they find peace in knowing that she is once again holding hands with the love of her life, Al.

Survivors include three children, Linda See of Dubuque, Kevin (Jill) Roth of Coralville, Iowa, and Brian (Paige) Roth of Iowa City, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Bambi Roth of Dubuque, widow of David, of Dubuque; nine grandchildren, Damian (Ashley) See, Brandon (Kathy) See, Andrew (Barby) Roth, Jami (Zak) Williams, Celeste (Brian) Frehner, Erica (Scott) Jenkins, Corey Roth, Justin (Dr. Danielle Thiessen) Roth, and Jayden (Tyler) Kingsley; eight great-grandchildren, Westin and Braxtin Williams, Felix Frehner, Chloe Roth, Harvey Julius See, Emery Louise Jenkins, and Jack and Wyatt Birch; two brothers, Paul (Judy) Demkier and Bob (Paula) Demkier; sister-in-law, Sam Demkier; and numerous nieces and nephews.
