Richard Allen “Rick” Fondell, Jr., 68 of Marshalltown, IA passed away on August 6th, 2026, at UnityPoint Health, St. Luke’s in Cedar Rapids, IA, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 15th, 2026, at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Rd. in Dubuque, IA. A funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with burial to follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Dubuque.

Rick was born on June 6, 1958, in Dubuque, IA, the son of Richard and Mary Ellen (Ferguson) Fondell Sr. He worked as a Meat Packing Plant Manager.

Rick loved the outdoors, particularly hunting and fishing. Rick was a selfless man and loved unconditionally. He was known for his strong will and his love and support for his family and friends.

He is survived by his children: Melissa Birch, Olivia Lyons Fondell, and Shane (Sandi) Anderson; grandchildren: Aalyiah, Miles, Asia, Kayo, and Hayden; siblings: Linda Shepherd, Vicki Gearhart, Brian Fondell; uncles: Junior Elliott, and “Wild” Bill Elliott; special friend Mary Bissen and many extended relatives and friends.

Rick is preceded in death by his parents, Richard & Mary Fondell; son, Jared Fondell; brother, Michael Fondell; sister, Debbie Faith; along with many aunts, uncles, and friends.
