Roger A. Bartels, 87, of Durango died Friday, August 28, 2026. Visitation will be from 2 to 7 pm Sunday at the Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road and from 8:30 to 9:15 am Monday at the funeral home.  Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rickardsville followed by burial in the church cemetery.

Roger was born November 8, 1938 in Dubuque, son of Raymond and Mary (Lex) Bartels.

On October 6, 1962 he married Cathy Hildebrand at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rickardsville.

Roger spent his entire career farming and working various construction jobs.

He enjoyed bowling, trains, “putzing around” with cars and tractors and attending country music concerts. Upon retirement, he enjoyed skiing.

He is survived by his wife, Cathy Bartels of Durango; five children, Karen (Pat Long) Bartels of Yucca Valley, CA, Kim (Eric Bargman) Bartels of Minneapolis, MN, Dale Bartels of Durango, David (Kori) Bartels of Verona, WI, and Marilynn (Ryan Less) Bartels of Davenport, IA; five granddaughters, Elise and Claire Bargman and Celia, Raelyn and Carly Bartels.

He is also survived by two sisters, Janet Tekippe of Sherrill and Maureen Barth of Rickardsville and a sister in law, Cindy Bartels of Dubuque.

He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert Bartels; and two brothers in law, Emil Barth and Joseph Tekippe.
