Roger F. Duster

Roger F. Duster, age 78, of Dubuque, IA, completed his earthly journey suddenly on August 17, 2023, at home.  To honor Roger’s life, a private family service is being held.  The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Roger’s family.

Roger was born on July 20, 1945, in Holy Cross, IA, a son to Edwin and Rita (Freiburger) Duster.  He was raised with a strong work ethic and a desire to make the most out of each day while taking care of those he loved.  Roger thankfully found the love of his life early and was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Carol J. Bowers, on May 25, 1968.  They were blessed with three children and 54 wonderful years together before Carol was sadly called home ahead of him in March of this year.  Roger would admit that his heart was forever broken and this was an awfully lonely world without his beautiful bride by his side.

Roger spent his working career in the experimental department at John Deere Dubuque Works for over 30 years, and even continued on traveling and training technicians after retirement as projects and issues arose in the field.  He took great pride in all that he did, and his commitment to work would be no exception.

Roger and Carol spent their free-time together building and traveling in their street rods.  They traveled all over the country going from show to show and Roger even built Carol her own street rod to enjoy along the way.  Logging easily over 50,000 miles and immeasurable amounts of memories and friends along the way, Roger and Carol rode through this life joyfully with both hands on the wheel together through each part of the journey.  Roger also did a lot of painting over the years and many of his meticulously sprayed and sealed finishes still adorn countless classic cars still making their way to the local shows to this day.

Roger was truly a family man at heart.  Whether it was the nights camping with the kids in the yard, or simply enjoying a nice evening with a cold beer in hand with his loved ones around him, all was right with the world when his family was nearby.  It’s beyond difficult to imagine losing both Roger and Carol within months of one another, and only God knows how we can find peace in this tragic reality, but we do trust that these two predestined soulmates are both walking hand in hand again and only wait patiently for us to join them again.  Thank you, Roger, for leading by example, being patient when necessary, yet firm when required, and for always reminding us through your words, thoughts and actions that nothing in this temporal world was more important to you than those you loved.  May the lessons and legacy which you leave behind now be found to exist all so vividly in the hearts and minds of all who knew and loved you.

Bradley R. Graybill

Bradley R. “Bim” Graybill, age 70, of Victorville, CA, formerly of Dubuque, IA, completed his earthly journey on August 11, 2023, in San Antonio, TX, with his loving family by his side.  To honor Brad’s life, his services and burial will be held at a later date at the Fort Sam Houston Cemetery in San Antonio, jointly with his wife who sadly passed away just months ago.

Brad was born on May 16, 1953, in Guttenberg, IA, a son to Bryon “Barney” and JoAnn Graybill.  He lived in the Sherrill, IA, area and was a proud graduate of the Class of ’71 from Hempstead High School in Dubuque, IA.  Brad enlisted in the U.S. Navy Sea Bees after graduation and also served in the Reserves until retirement with the rank of E01 in 2005.  He was always proud to be a Sea Bee and served with true dedication and honor.  He was also an over the road truck driver for most of his adult life and won multiple safe driving awards while employed with Werner Enterprises, from where he eventually retired.

Brad was united in marriage to Janice Moore on September 4, 1976, in Dubuque, IA, and they were blessed with many wonderful years together until she was sadly called home ahead of him on March 15, 2023.

Sallee S. Bixler

Sallee S. Bixler, age 88, of East Dubuque, IL, completed her earthly journey on August 21, 2023, at Ennoble Manor in Dubuque while surrounded by her loving family.  To honor Sallee’s life, a private family service is being held.  The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Sallee’s family.

Sallee was born on August 4, 1935, in Dubuque, IA, a daughter to Leo and Marie (Vandenberg) Glovick.  She grew up with a strong will and desire to make her own way in the world.  She eventually met John Bixler and the two were united in marriage and spent many wonderful years together before he was sadly called home ahead of her.  Sallee spent the majority of her working career as a purchasing buyer for the Lucky Corporation.  She enjoyed her work and made many friends along over the years before she finally moved into retirement.  Sallee had an intrinsic affinity for cats and was quite proud of her ability to raise many grand champion show cats.  She also enjoyed trying her luck at the casino from time to time and always made the most out of her free-time.  Sallee lived an abundantly full life and continually did it on her terms.  All who knew and loved her will miss her dearly and are forever grateful for the good memories which she now leaves behind.

Kenneth T. Reuter

Kenneth T. Reuter, 93, of Dubuque, Iowa, died on August 23, 2023, at his apartment in Oak Park Place, with his family by his side.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, August 31, at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road in Dubuque, with a prayer service at 3:45 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial for Ken will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 1, 2023, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Key West, with Msgr. Thomas Toale officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Key West immediately following Mass with military honors by American Legion Post #6 and the Iowa Army National Guard.

Ken was born on February 26, 1930, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Sylvester and Celestine (Jungers) Reuter. He completed tenth grade at St. Joseph Catholic School, Key West. Ken served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict era as a bus driver based in Germany. Following his honorable discharge he engaged in a series of vocations, including working as foreman for Mulgrew Blacktop, manager of Table Mound Trailer Court, and running a trucking and excavating business, with farming being a constant occupation through it all. Later in life, Ken drove for Truck Country and Key City Transport.

On December 2, 1961, Ken was united in marriage to Lois Cimmiyotti at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Dubuque. Six children were born to this union. In 1964, they purchased a farm near Key West, south of Dubuque, where they lived until retiring to Oak Park Place in 2022. Ken and Lois also enjoyed many winters in Bullhead City, Arizona.

Ken was steadfast in his faith. He never knew a stranger and was a loyal friend, always willing to help out where needed. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed joking around with others. A devoted and hardworking husband, father, and grandfather, family and work were Ken’s life. He will be greatly missed.

Ken is survived by his six children, Jeff (Dianna) Reuter of Iowa City, Jerry (Julie) Reuter of Basin, Wyoming, Mike (Kerry) Reuter of Sherrill, Julie (Dave) Sunne of Strawberry Point, Sherri (Greg “Pete”) Birkett of Durango, and Dave (Teresa) Reuter of Holy Cross; 15 grandchildren, Nicholas (Ashley) and Mitchell Reuter, Joshua (Emilie) Reuter, Bekki (Cody) Spencer, and Cal Reuter, Ashley (Steven) Shafer and Kimberley Reuter, Daniel, Zachary, Rachel, and Joseph (Brooke) Sunne, Benjamin and Samantha Birkett, and Cole and Luke Reuter; 10 great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law, Betty Reuter of Key West, Jackie Ritter of Charles City, Marlys Bade of Oakdale, Minnesota, and Carol Cimmiyotti of Sargeant, Minnesota, and two brothers-in-law, Ronald Cimmiyotti of Charles City and Gordon (Sandy) Cimmiyotti of Stacyville.

Ken was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Lois; his parents, his father- and mother-in-law, Joseph and Helen Cimmiyotti; a grandson, Adam Birkett; a sister, Lois (Arnold) Green; four brothers, Clem Reuter, Harlan Reuter (MIA, Korean War), Leonard “Jack” Reuter, and Jim (Darlene) Reuter; and brothers- and sisters-in-law, Stanley Cimmiyotti, Glenn Bade, Paul Ritter, Leola (Pat) Brady, Sharon Cimmiyotti, and Janet Cimmiyotti.

Memorials are welcome in lieu of flowers.

Marian A. Burger

Marian A. Burger, 85, of Dyersville passed away Tuesday, August 22, 2023, at MercyOne Medical Center in Dubuque.

Visitation will be held from 3 – 7 p.m. on Monday, August 28, 2023, at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville.  Visitation will continue at the funeral home from 9 – 10 am prior to funeral mass.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville with burial in the church cemetery.  Rev. Philip Agyei will officiate.

Marian was born on May 27, 1938, in Petersburg, the daughter of Emil and Cyrilla (Riesberg) Goedken.  She grew up on the family farm between Petersburg and New Vienna.  She began her career at the Ertl Toy Company where she met the love of her life, John Burger, and they were married on January 22, 1966, in Petersburg, Iowa.  She loved playing sports including softball, golf and bowling, scoring a hole in one and a 300 game.  She also loved being with her grandchildren, attending many of their activities.

Survivors include her children: Doug Burger of Waupon, WI, Steve Burger of Earlville, and Brian (Nancy) Burger of Petersburg; 5 grandchildren: Autumn Burger, Cody (Olivia) Burger, Nick (Leah) Burger, Cole (friend Erin Weigman) and Ben Burger; a great grandson, Cohen Burger, and in-laws: Kaye Trumm and Dave “Crockett” (Linda) Burger, all of Worthington.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John in 2014, siblings: Robert (Joan) Goedken, Dale Goedken; and in-laws: Eldon Trumm, Darlene (Merrill “Bud”) Smock, Carl “Cub” Burger and Wilma “Billie” Wolfe.

Lois B. Mueller

Lois B. Mueller, 86, of Garnavillo, Iowa passed away Thursday, August 24, 2023, at Hawkeye Care Center in Asbury, Iowa.

Visitation will be held from 4 – 7 p.m. on Monday, August 28, 2023, at Morris Funeral Home in Garnavillo.  Visitation will continue at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Garnavillo from 10 – 11 a.m. prior to funeral mass.

Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Garnavillo with burial in the church cemetery.  Rev. Marvin Bries will officiate.

Lois was born on August 4, 1937, the daughter of George and Leona (Matt) Schaefers. She spent most of her childhood on a farm near Volga and graduated from Volga High School in 1955 as valedictorian.  She married Harold Mueller on September 12, 1957, at Sacred Heart Church in Volga, Iowa and to this union, five children were born.

During this marriage they farmed and retired to Garnavillo.  She enjoyed gardening, walking and exploring nature.  Lois was co-founder of the Smile-A-While neighborhood club, member of American Legion Auxilary, and volunteered for several organizations including Relay For Life, 4-H leader, Garnavillo Historical Society, and Osborne Nature Center.  In retirement she enjoyed traveling, puzzles, and making memories with family and friends.

Survivors include her children: Joyce (Mike) Marting of St. Olaf, IA, Sue (Kremen) Bosworth of Charlotte, MI, Doug Mueller of Muscatine, IA, and Stan (Rhonda) Mueller of Sherrill, IA; six grandchildren: Nathan (Reagen) Marting, Ryan (Teri Ann) Marting, Ben (Karen) Bosworth, Sam Bosworth, Adam Mueller (Kayla Felderman), Emily Mueller; six great-granddaughters: Noa, Ella, Emma, Hanna, Azalea, Riverly; siblings: Greg Schaefers, Lavern (Connie) Schaefers, and Mary Schaefers; sister-in-law: Rosemary Mueller; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold in 2021; a daughter, Karen in infancy; brother, Francis (Pearl) Schaefers; in-laws: Marge Schaefers, Dorothy (Hubert) Berns, Herman (Theresa) Mueller, Margaret (Hans) Schlueter, Florentina (Leo) Bries, Henry Mueller.

Robert F. Krayer

Robert (Bob) F. Krayer, died on Tuesday August 22, 2023 at home with family.

Visitation will be from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm Saturday, August 26, 2023 at Immanuel Congregational United Church of Christ.

The Funeral Service for Robert will be 4:00 pm Saturday, August 26, 2023, at Immanuel Congregational United Church of Christ with Rev. Karen Candee officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Dubuque Memorial Gardens, Dubuque.

Robert was born March 29, 1928, in Dubuque, Iowa, son of Frank and Elizabeth (Gottschalk) Krayer and was nurtured into adult hood by a loving aunt and uncle, Edward and Emily (Gottschalk) Schuster.  He was a graduate of Dubuque Senior High School, class of 1947.  Bob was united in marriage to Dorothy K. Bottorff on October 3, 1959 at Immanuel Congregational UCC.  She preceded him in death on Nov. 20, 2020.

Bob started working at the Adams Company in Dubuque in 1945 as an accounting clerk while still attending high school.  Prior to his being drafted in the Korean War (1951-1953), he also worked for Dubuque Stone Products.  Bob was assigned to the 32nd AAA Brigade stationed at the Royal Air Force Base in Mildenhall, England.

Upon his return, Bob worked for John Deere Tractor Works (1953-1984) becoming Traffic Manager.  After his retirement Bob worked for the East Central Intergovernmental Association (ECIA) for 29 years as an Information Specialist.

As a member of Immanuel Church, Bob served on several boards. His favorite was Mission Outreach.  Additionally, Bob served on the board of Dubuque Area Congregations United (DACU) since its inception in 1974; the annual CROP Hunger Walk and the Downtown Dubuque Area Congregations (DDCO).

Bob cherished his time with his family. And was especially fond of his grand-kitty “Nugget”.  His favorite pastimes were flower photography, gardening, and traveling.  He and Dorothy especially loved to go for quick get-a-ways to Milwaukee, WI.

Bob was one of the kindest, most loving, forgiving, and accepting individuals this world has ever seen.  He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.  His love of life and resilience through adversity were contagious.

Surviving are children, Kimberly K. Schwartz and Krista S. (Chad) Kaminski; grandchildren, Adam and Jared Schwartz and Alexander and Lauren Kaminski; sister-in-law, Sherry (Merle) Schmitt; brother-in-law, Jim (Nancy) Bottorff; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Dorothy, brother Donald and sister Dorothy.

Donald P. Gaul

Donald Patrick Gaul, 78, of Dubuque, died Wednesday, August 23, 2023, at the Hawkeye Care Center in Dubuque.

Visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm Monday, August 28, 2023 at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home & Crematory.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Don will be 10:00 am Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at Cathedral of St. Raphael with Father Dennis Quint as the Celebrant. Burial will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery in Luxemburg.

Donald was born July 5, 1945, in Farley, IA, the son of Joseph William and Stella Marie Dolan Gaul. On August 18, 2016, he married Debra Jean Rokusek in Dubuque.

Don was a dairy farmer who enjoyed helping his nephews, Tim and Jim, farm after his retirement.

He liked to travel with his wife, Deb, and spend time at the farm, walking to the back creek, feeding the cats, and gazing at the stars with the yard light burnt out. He was loving, kind, faithful and hardworking and passed those traits on to his children. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and recent great-grandfather.

Survivors include his wife, Deb; three daughters, Margie (Rick) Schumann of Dyersville, IA, Patsy Schueller of Epworth, IA, and Donna (Joel) Laaker of Dubuque; one son, Roger (Ashley) Gaul of Peosta, IA; 11 grandchildren, Kevin (Makenzie) Schumann, Trevor Schumann, Carson, Carter, and Kaylee Schueller, Isla, Cullen, and Imogen Laaker, Eliana, Bryson, and Colton Gaul; and one great-grandson, Tayte Schumann; one brother, David (Carol) Gaul of Guttenberg, IA; one sister, Marlene (Bill Hosch) Koppes of Cascade, IA; his father- and mother-in-law, Joe and Karen Rokusek of Dubuque; two sisters-in-law, Sherrie (Dan) Estal, and Lynn (Joe) Lieb; three brothers-in-law, Dennis (Kelli) Rokusek, and Steve (Mickey) Rokusek, Jeff (LaVonne Sawvell) Rokusek; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two children, Peter and Tony in infancy, two sisters, Verna Greenwood and Connie Maiers, and two brothers-in-law, Ray Greenwood and Bernie Maiers, mother of his children, Gladys Gaul and one nephew David Estal.

Anne M. Hanselmann

Anne Mathilda Hanselmann, 96, passed away on August 17, 2023, in Dubuque, IA.

Services will be held at St. Peter Lutheran Church Saturday, September 2, 2023, at 11:00 a.m.  Visitation will be held prior to services from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the church.  Leonard Funeral Home and Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Rd is in charge of arrangements. Private family burial will be in Linwood Cemetery.

Anne was born on February 15, 1927, in Council Bluffs, IA to Herman and Mary Vorthmann.  She grew up on a farm and was educated in local schools and at Wartburg College.  She was a social worker.

She was married to Herbert Hanselmann at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Treynor, IA, on November 20, 1949.  They had four children: Herbert Jr., Linda, Elizabeth, and Kathryn.

Anne was a homemaker and was active as a volunteer in church groups, at Luther Manor and Finley Hospital.  She also enjoyed reading, music, sewing and traveling.

Survivors include children Herbert Jr. (Suzanne) of Tavares, FL, Linda (Jerry) Redmond of Ames, IA, Elizabeth (Jim) Wenger of Argyle, WI, Kathryn Conlon (Jim Hauber) of Dubuque, IA.  13 grandchildren: Daniel, Jeremiah, and Seth Redmond, Kristin Loven, Fritz, Peter, Eric, and Christian Hanselamnn, Justin Harms, Jenny Link, Lindsey Kaib, Natalie Garvin, Alex Conlon and 23 great-grandchildren.  A sister, Alice Novak, brothers-in-law Loui Novak and Roger Hanselmann.

Alan A. Main

Alan A. Main, 77, of Peosta, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 at Mercy One Medical Center in Dubuque, Iowa.

Visitation for Alan will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., on Monday, August 28, 2023 at the Reiff Funeral Home in Epworth, Iowa.  Visitation will also be held after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Funeral Home.

Services for Alan will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, August 29, 2023 at the Reiff Funeral Home in Epworth, Iowa with Pastor Lisa Ames-Kruse officiating.  Burial will be held in the Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence, Iowa.

Alan was born May 9, 1946 in Independence, Iowa, son of Willis C. and Frances M. (Habben) Main.   He received his education at the University of Wisconsin-Stout in Menominee, Wisconsin.  In 1969 he was united in marriage to Jacqueline Butterbrodt. On June 29, 1997 he was united in marriage to Rose Birkett in Dubuque, IA.

Alan owned the Epworth Cabinet Shop and Lumber yard.  He was the Industrial Tech Teacher at Western Dubuque and Senior High School.  In the past he also taught woodworking at Senior High School.  He was an avid gardener, fisherman and hunter.  For many years he volunteered as a Boy Scout Leader.  He was always looking for his next project, and willing to lend a helping hand.

He is survived by his wife Rose Birkett of Peosta, Iowa; his children, Eric (Angie) Main of Peosta, IA, April Joachim of Roanake, VA, Dana (Ben) Neuman of LaPorte City, IA and Clinton Main of Woodward, IA; Jamie Birkett and Mark (Tara) Birkett; four Grandchildren, Isaiah, Alexia, Myla and Genevieve; two brothers, Wilbur (Sharon) Main and Don (Judy) Main both of Independence, Iowa; a sister, Lois (Bill) Olson of Webster City, Iowa.

He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Jack Main.

Joan L. Koenig Jackson

Services for Joan Lee Koenig Jackson, 85, will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, at Nativity BVM Catholic Church, 15406 West Creek Valley Road, Menominee, IL 61025. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 7 p.m., Friday, at Miller Funeral Home, 1185 Route 35 North, East Dubuque, IL.

Joan Lee Koenig Jackson was born on September 23, 1937 to Lee T. Koenig and Mildred C. (Schimdt) Koenig in a house on Finley Street in Dubuque, Iowa. Her three sisters followed and over the years, the “Koenig Girls” enjoyed many adventures. 

Joan’s first and only romance (we think) began in 3^rd grade at St. Anthony’s School when Sr. Vincentia sat Fred Jackson directly behind Joan Koenig. A few hair tugs and pokes later, their fate was sealed. Years later, when Joan announced to her parents at the dinner table that Fred Jackson was getting married, they inquired, “To whom?” To which she answered, smiling, “Me!” Mom was always pleasantly full of surprises.  

Their six “well-behaved” (mom’s eternal prayer) children, known as “the gang” followed. Joan loved being a mother and generously shared her gifts and talents. A woman of many, she taught us the trades: sewing, crocheting, knitting, cooking (though a few didn’t take quite as well as mom may have hoped). Her gifts were fully appreciated when it came to family weddings. She sewed a bride’s wedding dress and bridesmaid’s dresses, baked and decorated wedding cakes, arranged all of the flowers, transported everyone safely and darn near missed some weddings herself! Mom was an Uber driver before it existed, transporting “the gang” and their many friends here, there and everywhere in the famous red station wagon. “Drive it until the wheels fall off,” Dad said. Another surprise … one day a wheel actually did!

While her love for family was unsurpassed, her expansive heart flowed into community service as well. Her leadership was tapped early at St. Joseph’s Academy. She was forever grateful for the education and life-long friendships she made there. Joan coordinated St. Joseph’s Academy’s Class of 1955 reunions through the 50^th year. A natural-born leader, her first job at Molo Oil Company instilled in her a professional confidence. She sacrificed her dream of becoming a nurse to raise our family. Years later, when invited to consider becoming a volunteer Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) for the Galena area ambulance service, she studied day and night, asking us kids to quiz her in preparation for each exam. She surprised herself every time she passed a test. So very proud of that achievement, she found joy in paying it forward in service as a founding member of the Menominee Dunleith Fire Department Women’s Auxiliary and service on the Galena Ambulance Board, Galena 911 Board, and as Menominee Village Clerk.

Part-time positions at Jackson Tuckpointing, East Dubuque Savings Bank, and Sherman Flooring funded gas money for many escapades with her friends: Jane, Jeanie and Jan. Together the 4 J’s (at times directionally challenged) traveled many miles to test their theory that when lost, “Two left turns really do make a right!”  Mom’s collaborative leadership never failed!  

Mom’s greatest gift was her joyful, enthusiastic presence. In these later years as a resident with dementia and severely limited speech at Luther Manor Grand Meadows, she continued inspiring people with her smile, hugs and laughter. And as she died peacefully on Monday, August 21, 2023 surrounded by family and the Grand Meadows staff, she was still teaching us how to move on and make the best of things. “Clothed in strength and integrity, she laughs without fear of the future” (Proverbs 31:25).

Surviving are her children: Deb and Ed Tranel of East Dubuque, IL; Kelly (Deb) Jackson of Peosta, IA; Dane (Joyce) Jackson of East Dubuque, IL; Ann Jackson, PBVM of Cedar Rapids, IA; Sam (Moya) Jackson of East Moline, IL; and Chris Jackson of Dubuque, IA; 14 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; her beloved Koenig sisters: Judy DuCray, Rita Duve (Norm) and Kay George; and two sisters-in-law: Jane Jackson and Patricia Jackson.  

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Fred Jackson, in-laws Thelma and George Jackson; granddaughters: infant Kally Jackson and Danielle (Jackson) Connell; brothers-in-law: Jim DuCray, John George, Alan Jackson and Terry Jackson.

Our family would like to thank: Dr. Martin Bagby, Dr. Roger Shafer, Dr. Yasyn Lee, Dr. Angela Kelly and her nursing staff, and Hospice of Dubuque. We are also grateful to the staffs at Luther Manor and Grand Meadows who over the years felt like family. The love, care and compassion mom received extended and enhanced her life immeasurably.

Aaron L. Eads

Aaron Lee Eads, 61, of Preston, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at home.

Aaron Lee Eads was born on February 18, 1962 in Clinton, Iowa, to Irving Charles and Joy Ann (Struble) Eads.  He grew up in Preston and was a 1980 graduate of Preston High School. He had worked as a farmhand for many years, most notably for Duane and Brad Marvin.

Aaron enjoyed music, target shooting and raising livestock.

Those left to honor his memory include a brother, Owen Eads of Miles, IA; cousin, Dennis (Bev) Eads, and cousin Lavonne (John) House.  He was preceded in death by his father Irving Charles Eads, mother Joy Ann Eads on June 9, 2023, aunt Nola Jean (Marlin) Hoffmann, cousin Kay Hoffmann, and uncles Glenn (Rose) Eads and James Eads.

A graveside service and burial celebrating Aaron’s life will be held at 11:30 A.M., Monday, August 28, 2023, at Buckhorn Cemetery, rural Maquoketa.  A memorial visitation will be held prior to the graveside service from 10 to 11 A.M., Monday, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made to the Jackson County Historical Society or the Jackson County Humane Society.

Kenneth J. Kilburg

Kenneth J. Kilburg, 88, of Bellevue, passed away peacefully on, Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at his home near his family.

Funeral Mass will be 10:30 am, Saturday, August 26, 2023 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Bellevue.  Scripture Service will begin at 3:15 pm, Friday, August 25, 2023 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Bellevue with visitation to follow until 7:00 pm, additional visitation will be 9:00 am – 10:00 am on Saturday, August 26, 2023 at Hachmann-Mier Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Bellevue prior to Mass.  Burial with Military Honors conducted by Bellevue American Legion Post #273 will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery.

Kenny was born October 3, 1934, the son of Dominic and Florence (Weis) Kilburg.  He worked as a farm hand and then served his country in the US Army 1956-1958.  Kenny worked at Roeder’s Implement for 10 years and then started Kilburg Electric, never really retiring.  He married Jean Scheckel on September 18, 1965.  Kenny was a faithful member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, VFW, Bellevue American Legion Post #273, and Luxembourg Society of Iowa.

Kenny was a strong believer of Fatima and Blessed Mother and a strong Luxembourgian.

Survivors include his wife, Jean; children, Angie (Brian) Dreifuerst, Gary (Betty) Kilburg, Becky (Tim) Giesemann, Scott Kilburg, Kathy Weimerskirch, Doug Kilburg, and Debbie (Mike) Schroeder; 14 grandchildren, Derrick, Cara, Jacob, Mikenzie, Benjamin (Joslyn), Ashley (Matt), Toby, Tate, Alex, Katerina, Emma, Andrea, Silas, and Mikenna; 7 great-grandchildren, Mason, Knox, Harper, Evelyn, Layla, Haddey, and Grayson; siblings, Leo (Janis) Kilburg, Vera (Levi) Schmidt, and Dula (Leon) Tebbe; sisters in-law, Katie Kilburg and Geri (Jeff) Evans; and numerous nieces and nephews and extended relatives.

Kenny was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Alvin (Estelle) Kilburg,   Albert (Mary) Kilburg, Vernon Kilburg,   Rita (Raymond) Roling,   Marcella “Sally” (Paul) Banowetz,  Earl Kilburg, Edna (Michael) Reuter,  Lloyd (Monica) Kilburg,  Vincent (Judy) Kilburg, a brother in-law, Dennis Scheckel; and a sister in-law, Diane Scheckel.

Wayne A. Jackson

Wayne A. Jackson, 84, of Bellevue, passed away on, Monday, August 21, 2023, at Mill Valley Care Center.  Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 am, Friday, August 25, 2023, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Bellevue with Military Honors conducted by Bellevue American Legion Post #273. Visitation will be 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm, Thursday, August 24, 2023 at Hachmann-Mier Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Bellevue, additional visitation will be from 9:30 am – 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 25, 2023 at Hachmann-Mier Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Bellevue prior to Mass.  Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery at a later date.

Wayne was born, August 25, 1938, the son of Imo and Eleanor (Laffey) Jackson.  He served his country in the US Army, after being discharged he earned his Barber Certificate.  Wayne worked for Midwest Pipeline, Canadian Pacific Railroad, Clinton Engines, and then retired from John Deere Works Dubuque after 25 plus years.  He married Norma Jean Kilburg-McCarty on December 22, 1969.  Wayne loved Norma dearly.  He also enjoyed history, and visiting with family and friends.  He always had a story to tell.

Survivors include his wife, Norma; children, Kathy McCarty, Nancy (Dan) Yaddof, Carolyn (Ken) Laxson, Marilyn (Don) Atkinson, Dennis (Dawn) Jackson, and Mike (Nicole) Jackson; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; a sister, Beverly Sullivan; sisters and brothers in-law, Janice Jackson, Doris (Ronald) Ambrosy, Lois Klein, Dwain (Barb) Kilburg, and Rick (Rita) Kilburg.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; father and mother in-law, Joe and Gertrude Kilburg; an infant, bother and sister; a sister, Rosalee (Richard) Schlecht; a brother, Virgil Jackson; brothers and sisters in-law, Bernard Sullivan, Rita Mae (Clyde) Ties, and Cletus Klein.

John P. Taylor

John Peter Taylor, 77 of Holy Cross, Iowa passed away Tuesday, August 22, 2023, at his home surrounded by family.

Visitation will be held from 8:30 – 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, August 26, 2023 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Holy Cross, Iowa where the Farley Legion will accord prayers at 10:30 a.m.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 26, 2023 at Holy Cross Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery where the Farley Legion will accord military honors.  Rev. Tyler Raymond will officiate.

John was born on September 19, 1945, in Holy Cross, Iowa, the son of Francis and Dorothy (Rea) Taylor.

After graduating high school, he attended basic training at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO on May 11, 1964.  John was assigned to the 389th Eng. Company 3, 3rd Battalion, 2nd Regiment.  In June 1965 he completed the course for crane shovel in the heavy equipment school at Camp McCoy, WI.

On August 25, 1979, he married Barb Errthum at Holy Cross Catholic Church.  They were blessed with two children: Peter and Theresa.  In 1981, John bought a bulldozer and started his construction company and continued his passion for farming and construction for the next 42 years.  John served as a board member of the Holy Cross Fire Department for several years. To relax and unwind, John enjoyed long Harley rides on his trike and spending time with his grandchildren on the farm.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Barb; son, Peter Taylor, daughter, Theresa (Steven) Magyera; grandchildren: Noah Taylor, Aspen and Hudson Magyera; siblings: Mary Kahle, Helen (Scotty) Thomas, Jane (Ken) Rausch, Bridget (Bob) Kluesner, Pat (Mike) Thies, Jim Taylor, Paul (Sue) Taylor, in-laws: Mary Taylor, Lois Taylor, Karolyn Taylor, Gen Pike, Mary Hayes, Ed (Deb) Errthum, Jerome (Marlene) Errthum, Kathy Rudebeck, Leon (Elaine) Errthum, and Carol Errthum.

He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings: Ray (Joan) Taylor, Charlie Taylor, Frank Taylor, Joe Taylor; sister-in-law, Marie Taylor and many other in-laws; and nephew, Zach Taylor.

The family would like to thank the staff at Hospice of Dubuque  for their compassionate care.
