Ruth E. Henrichs
Ruth Eileen Henrichs peacefully passed away on September 16, 2021. In her final hours, she was surrounded by her loving family and her friend and pastor. The funeral service will be held at 11 AM, Thursday, September 23, 2021, at St. Matthews Lutheran Church, Galena, IL and where friends may call after 10 AM until time of the service. Friends may call from 4 to 7 PM, Wednesday, September 22, 2021, at the Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Galena.
Eileen, the only child of Ruth and Ernest Maeder, was born February 12, 1931, in Galena, where she lived her entire 90 years. She attended Galena Primary School and was a graduate of Galena High School. Throughout her high school years, she was actively involved in band and chorus, and was a frequent first-place medal winner at Illinois High School Music contests as a pianist, clarinetist, and singer. Eileen attended Hill Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday school and where she met her future husband, Peter A. Henrichs. They were married on December 28, 1949. She was also active at First Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the choir, and at Westminster Presbyterian Church, where she sang, served as a Deacon and was the Moderator of Presbyterian Women. In keeping with her dedication to charitable causes, she was a member of the Rebekah Lodge, she made and served lunches at the Dubuque Mission, and was a supporter of the Midwest Medical Center Auxiliary. Eileen was devoted to her family. She considered her children to be special and expected each to be all they could be. She worked and sacrificed to make certain that all three children received a college education to prepare them to be successful in life. She and her husband “Pete” had the same aspirations for their grandchildren — Scott, Kari, and Kim, and enthusiastically supported all their activities in school, music, and theatre, and their many sports. She adored her grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, Kylie, and Keegan, “the light of her life.” She lived for their visits and delighted in hearing all the details of their lives. Eileen loved animals, and just as she welcomed all friends and neighbors into her home, she never turned away a stray animal that appeared at her door. She was especially fond of her “furry friend” Bandit, granddaughter Kim’s pet. He and Eileen spent many happy hours together in their special chair in the family room. Eileen loved to sew and creatively made every Halloween costume that any of her grandchildren wanted, and never declined a request to make costumes for the Galena Art Theatre. She was a frequent participant in Turner Hall events and performed in various Art Theatre productions there. She was part of a co-op craft shop on Main Street Galena where, during the filming of “Field of Dreams,” she was thrilled to meet Burt Lancaster. Her specialty was creating the many dolls that she took to craft shows with her husband. Eileen served the public in the Jo Daviess County Clerk’s Office. She was also Secretary to John Butler of Cottingham and Butler, and to Jerry Murdock at the Galena State Bank.
This beautiful and loving woman is survived by her three children — Pamela McKinsey of Galena, Melanie Henrichs of Gilbert, AZ, and Merrill Henrichs (Cathy) of Galena; three grandchildren, Scott McKinsey of Galena (Triona Terry), and Kari Kass (Caleb) and Kim Henrichs (Brandon Horn), both of Dubuque; and two great-grandchildren, Kylie, and Keegan Kass, also of Dubuque.
She was preceded in death by Peter A. Henrichs, her husband of over 50 years, who died on Jan. 5, 2000.
Eileen generously donated to many worthy causes, and for many years after her husband’s death she maintained the Peter A. Henrichs Memorial Scholarship. In her spirit of giving, in lieu of flowers the family asks memorials to be given to the American Cancer Society or another charity of choice.
The family thanks the staff of Oak Park Place Dubuque, where Eileen spent the last weeks of her life; the Emergency staff of MercyOne Dubuque Medical Center; Hospice of Dubuque nurse Paul G, who remained with Eileen to the very end; Cathy Bussan’s entire family and the Steve Stangl family for their kindness, help and support over many years; and Senior Pastor Blake Shipman of St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Galena, who provided spiritual support to Eileen in her last year and especially in her final hours and continues to support her family throughout this very difficult time. Private memorial service will be held at a later date. Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road is assisting the family. Online condolences may be left at www.leonardfuneralhome.com
Clarence was born on December 26, 1942, in Dubuque, the son of William and Edna (Maas) Shaffer. He attended school in Dubuque. He worked for over 25 years as a skilled commercial painter and tuck pointer, including working on many of Dubuque’s highest buildings, church steeples, and the courthouse. He then worked for several years at Barnstead/Thermolyne before his retirement.
For those who knew him, you know our Dad and Grandpa was memorable. Clarence loved to ride around Dubuque, especially to see the Mississippi River. He liked to watch the Minnesota Vikings (most years), to play a few rounds of euchre with people who ‘knew how to play,’ to reminisce about growing up in a large family on Coates Street, his mother’s homemade bread, running around with his friends, old cars, driving fast, fishing on the river, family dinners, scratching lotto tickets, Kessler’s and Coke, putting puzzles together, to hang out chatting with the crew at the coffee shop, and to visit friends on Saturday mornings.
He collected things – lots and lots of things. He was a bit stubborn, enjoyed some colorful discussions (sometimes just to argue), liked his things to be just so, and loved to tease or share a good joke. He helped all three of his grandkids learn to drive. He was so very proud of his grandkids and great grandkids.
Those left to remember and treasure the memories include: his daughters, Cindy (Kevin) Weidemann, and Shelby (Mark Reyes) Shaffer; his grandchildren, Josh (Kirsten) Weidemann, Lindsey Weidemann, Hannah Weidemann; and his great-grandchildren, Eli Weidemann and Drew Weidemann. Clarence is also survived by two brothers, Jim (Rose) Shaffer, Harold (Sue) Shaffer. and by his former wife, Dixie Shaffer McCarthy.
He was preceded in death by a son, Kevin John; his parents; his sisters, Alice Voels, Rita Pfab, Lorraine Dimitroff, Shirley Mihalakis, and Mary Breitbach, and his brothers, Irvin, Donald, John “Jack,” Leonard, Richard “Dick,” and William “Bill”.
The family would like to thank Dr. Angela Kelley for all of her years of care and negotiating the things that worked to keep him going every day. The family also extends thanks and gratitude to all of the special staff, volunteers and leaders at Stonehill Care Center! For more than 9 years, you were his family when we couldn’t be there. Thank you for doing the hard stuff, putting up with him, making him laugh, and doing all sorts of special things for him!

Michael J. McCullough
Friday, September 10, the Lord received another spirited and lovable Irishman when Mike McCullough passed away unexpectedly due to heart complications, he was 70. It’s everyone else’s heart that has been breaking since, but as much as we hurt, Mike would never want us to.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 22, 2021, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with Rev. Steven Rosonke officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Iowa Army National Guard. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 21, 2021, at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road where a wake service will be held at 3:00 p.m. and at 6:45 p.m. the Ancient Order of Hibernians will have a service.
Michael J. McCullough was born to Delbert and Shirley (Carr) McCullough in Cedar Rapids on March 31, 1951. He graduated from Wahlert High School in 1969, served in the Army in the early ’70s, graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in 1975, and was a through-and through Bears and White Sox fan. He married Cathy Connolly, the love of his life, May 6, 1989. Mike was employed by Interstate Power/Alliant Energy for many years until retirement in 2008. After retirement he was the business manager for St. Mathias Church in Cascade, Iowa until 2016.
Mike was ever the Irishman. He was a proud member and officer of the Royal Order of the Hibernians, he visited the Motherland with his immediate family and wife Cathy, and he carried that Celtic charm in all he did. Always good for a drink and a joke, Mike didn’t believe in strangers—only friends he hadn’t met yet.
Mike was a cofounder of the West Dubuque Jaycees, where he made lifelong friendships and developed a love for building and participating in the annual Haunted House. When not getting a laugh out of spooking strangers for the good of the community, he was busy building the same bonds of joy with his immediate and extended family. From the Carrs to the McCulloughs, numerous close friends, and his work family at Interstate Power, Mike was a man of the people, always happiest to be hearing about others’ lives and cheering on their pursuits.
Most recently, Mike could be found presiding over “Holy Hour” at the Lux Club with his uncles, cousins, family, and anyone lucky enough to be present. Wherever Mike went, a sense of community and belonging followed. And while the Bee Gees’ song “To Love Somebody/’ may have been one of his favorites, Mike will never know what it means for us all to love somebody the way we love him. Love you, man.
Mike is survived by his mother Shirley (Carr) McCullough, of Dubuque; his wife Cathy McCullough; children: Kevin (Azeen Keramati) McCullough, of Queens, NY Karen (Nic) Hoeger, Ryan McCullough, Dan McCullough and Molly (Jake Hutzell) McCullough, all from Dubuque. Grandchildren: William and Lorelei Hoeger. His sisters: Mary (Mark) Witherall, of Carlsbad, CA, and Carol (Steve) Carlson, of Wellesley, MA; his brothers: Jack (Lynn) McCullough and Jim McCullough, all from Dubuque. Mother-in-law, Geri Connolly, of Dubuque; brothers-in-law: Mike (Karen) Connolly, Bob Connolly all from Dubuque, and Bill (Kim) Connolly, of Marion IA, Sisters-in-law: Diane (Whitey) Pancratz, of Zwingle, IA and Susan Connolly, of McHenry, IL; along with numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Mike was preceded in death by his grandparents Ambrose and Stella McCullough and Mick and Mae Carr; his father Delbert McCullough; Baby Sister:, Joan Marie McCullough and his father-in-law, Cletus Connolly
In lieu of flowers, a Michael J. McCullough Memorial Fund has been established.
The family would like to thank the Dubuque Police, Fire and EMS, Dubuque County Medical Examiner, Donna Kluesner and Pat Leonard and his staff for all of their kindness and compassion.

Constance K. “Aunt Flossie” McIntyre, age 78, of Dubuque, Iowa, completed her earthly journey on September 14, 2021, at home, surrounded by her loving family. To honor Constance’s life, a private family service is being held. The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Constance’s family.
Constance was born on June 4, 1943, in Dubuque, Iowa, 1 of 14 children to George H. and Vivian (Kay) McIntyre. She grew up surrounded by family and friends and gradually developed her sweet, and yet determined personality when necessary. Constance worked in the laundry department at both the Hotel Julien Dubuque, and Holiday Inn, and also invested a few more years of her working career at Aladdin Cleaners. After she retired, Constance found the extra time which she always desired and was able to spend a little more time working out in her yard, taking nice relaxing walks, fellowshipping with friends, and even made her way to the casino if time would allow. Everyone who ever knew Constance couldn’t help but to love her. A spit-fire when the situation called for it, but always a loving and tender heart with everyone around her. Our hearts are beyond broken today at the mere thought of facing the days ahead without her lively spirit alongside us, but in time we will discover peace in knowing that her earthly battles have now ceased to plague her and thankfully she is resting in eternal peace with all of her loved one’s that have been called home ahead of us. Thank you, Aunt Flossie, for always being true to yourself and for teaching us that there truly is no end to the amount of love that we share and possess as long as we know, trust, and say that it is so.
Those left behind to cherish the memory of Constance include,
her siblings,
Dianna Wilson, Dubuque, Iowa,
Calvin K. (Arlene) McIntyre, Tampa, Florida,
and George H. McIntyre, Dubuque, Iowa;
along with countless nieces, nephews, extended family, friends, and neighbors, with a special expression of appreciation to Cynthia Hartley, Rhonda Meyer, and Tracy Edwards.
Constance was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Donald, Theodore, Gary, Rodger, Ron, Jim, Alvin, Darline, Sharon, and Patty; and her brother-in-law, Carl Wilson.
Constance’s family would like to thank Dr. Engelman, and his staff, Lauren White, P.A., along with the nurses and staff at Hospice of Dubuque for all of their sincere, professional, and compassionate care of Constance, and her family. We would also like to extend a very heartfelt thank you to Christina Bartolotta, Cathy Olson, and all of Connie’s dear friends who have walked right alongside us, hand in hand, through these most difficult days. Your generosity, strength, patience, and unwavering devotion have made more of a difference than we could ever accurately put into words. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all of your love and time!
