Amy worked for 45 years at Mercy as a physical therapy aide and home care clerk, a career she cherished for the many dear friendships it afforded her. She was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, Sacred Heart Church, and volunteered her time at Mary’s Inn maternity home, a role that would bring a “bonus” granddaughter, Natalie, into her life.
Amy possessed the rare combination of warmth and kindness capable of buoying the spirits of those in her presence. Her bedrock in life was her faith, and the significance of her passing on All Saints’ Day was noted by those closest to her, many of whom regarded her as a saint in their hearts. She was an active country western dancer and could be found most Wednesdays at the fairgrounds, her natural beauty and zeal for life on full display. More than anything she enjoyed bringing her family together for weekend brunches and holiday gatherings, many of which included activities of her own invention which brought so much joy and laughter to all in attendance.

William T. Turnmeyer
William T. “Boots” Turnmeyer, age 63, of Dubuque, IA, completed his earthly journey on November 1, 2024, at the Harmony Nursing Home in Dubuque. To honor William’s life, a private family burial will be held at the Dubuque Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving William’s family.
William was born on June 10, 1961, a son to William J. and Darlene M. (Schulz) Turnmeyer. He believed in living an easy-going lifestyle completely free of conflict whenever possible. William was a store manager at Zayre’s in Dubuque in the early 80’s until tragedy struck when he was involved in a motorcycle accident in 1984. This life altering moment changed everything for William and his life moving forward was never the same. He fought a long and courageous battle over the years and continually made the most out of each day as it presented itself. He had always had an affinity for motorcycles and classic Chevy’s, especially the Impala and Chevelle. Whenever he had the opportunity to be near them, and hopefully bring his mechanical skills to the table, you could be sure that the vehicle was soon going to be performing on a much better level when William was done. Life was not going to be overly complicated if William could help it and understanding where the simple joys in life could be found was key. We will miss William more than he could possibly know and we are forever grateful for each and every memory he leaves behind now to help us find some moments of peace and comfort in the midst of his physical absence moving forward. Thank you, William, for reminding us that every day is a gift and we should do our best to consider that reality from time to time. We will carry your legacy in the depths of our hearts and minds and can only pray that you are now free from your earthly battles in the loving hands of our Savior as we wait patiently to see you once again.
Those left behind to cherish the memory of William include,
his two brothers,
Walt (Kathy) Harrison, Dubuque, IA,
and Tim McIntyre, Dubuque, IA;
his niece and nephew,
Brett McIntyre, Dubuque, IA,
and Trissity (Mike) Horkheimer, Dubuque, IA;
along with numerous extended family, friends, and neighbors.
William was preceded in death by his parents, his grandparents, and his canine companion, Buddy.
William’s family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Harmony and Care Initiatives Hospice for all of their professional and compassionate care.
Online condolences may be shared with William’s family at www.tristatecremationcenter.com

Bryan C. Reifsteck
Bryan Christopher Reifsteck, age 45, of Plainfield, IL, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 30, 2024. Born on August 15, 1979, in Sterling, IL, he was the beloved son of the late John and Marcia (née Norman) Reifsteck.
Joseph E. Sprengelmeyer II
Joseph “Buzz” Edward Sprengelmeyer II, 75, died on October 17th, 2024 in Galena, Illinois, surrounded by his adoring (and adorable)* 3 children.
Buzz was born on November 19th, 1948 in Galesburg, Illinois, to Joseph Edward Sprengelmeyer and Mary Kay Sprengelmeyer (Cirimotich).
Buzz grew up in Dubuque, and attended the prestigious University of Dubuque for 1 week.
He was the proprietor of Buzz’s La Belle Epoque – Galena Illinois’ longest running and least profitable antique store. Buzz has been a fixture on Main Street since 1980, when he opened up his first booth in Glick’s Antiques. Not long after he opened his first store, which has been running ever since.
When Buzz wasn’t taunting unsuspecting tourists with a megaphone, or chasing his doberman “Poopins” down the street with a dead rabbit his mouth (Poopins…not Buzz), he could be found lending an ear to a friend or stranger, helping someone move a piano, or bailing a friend out of trouble.
Buzz could bring light into any situation with his sharp wit and dashing charm. His rusty cars and unique laugh could be heard from miles away. His clothes were paint stained, and his jacket “possibly” picked from a dumpster, but he always had impeccable style and presence. Buzz wasn’t impressed with status, money, or fame. He treated everyone he met the same – with a genuine smile, and a surprising remark. He will be remembered above all for his kindness and generosity.
Buzz was a devout meditator and student of Buddhism.
He is survived by his children, Laurel, Neal, and Lily, who all feel like they won the lottery by having Buzz as their Dad; brother Dave Sprengelmeyer and sisters Marcia Scheetz and Melissa (John) Bulkley, son in law Richard Parry, and beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Celebration of Life and Death will be held on November 30th at Turner Hall in Galena, Illinois from 2:30 – 6:30. Memorial Service will begin at 3pm. After the service attendees will be invited to share personal stories and recollections. All are welcome.
*Lily objected to including “and adorable” in this line, but she lost 2-1
Sharon A. Law
Sharon Ann (Bauer) Law, 69, of Hazel Green, Wisconsin formerly of Savanna and Menominee, IL, passed away on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at home.

She did bookkeeping and clerical work for Nativity BVM Parish in Menominee, IL, and St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Savanna, as well as other businesses such as Farmer’s Exchange in Galena, and Economy Fire & Casualty Insurance in Freeport. Sharon had a tremendous love for cats, which greatly filled the void until her children arrived and for many years thereafter. Wonderful childhood memories were made for Sharon when she and her three younger sisters were taught by their mom, Edna, to cook and bake many family favorites recipes, especially frosted cut-out sugar cookies and homemade sage dressing for Thanksgiving. Sharon carried on her mother’s legacy for many years by canning pears from their pear trees and freezing many bags of sweet corn each year from the farm. Sharon and her sisters also loved when their family went to weekly parades and carnivals every summer while their dad, Robert, played the bugle and marched as a member of the East Dubuque Drum & Bugle Corp. Fond memories were made when grandchildren came into the Bauer Family and we would all play the boardgame ‘Sequence” (Gpa Robert’s favorite) and the card game ‘UNO’.
