Paul was born on March 8, 1939, in Maquoketa, IA, the son of Merlin and Eileen (Carew) Casel. In his youth, Paul attended a one-room schoolhouse near Otter Creek, IA where both his mother and grandmother served as his teachers. He then later attended Maquoketa High School where he was a member of the Class of 1956.
Upon graduation, Paul enlisted in the US Navy. He served as a gunnery mate on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Hancock. His naval service took him to the Far East where he was primarily based in Japan.
After serving his two-year enlistment, he returned home and began working at the Dubuque Packing Company. Paul worked at “The Pack” for 42 years. In addition to his position in shipping, he was also a leader within UFCW Local 150A for over 30 years. Paul specialized in pension and retirement benefits, especially advocating for those who had been laid-off, and in many contract negotiations. Paul met Jeanette Welter at a dance in Kieler, Wisconsin and, after deciding she was “the one” they were married on August 6, 1960, at Holy Ghost Church in Dickeyville, WI. They had four sons, whom he loved and was very proud of. As a dad, Paul stressed having respect for yourself, others, as well as your property. This meant a clean and well-maintained home, car, garage and yard. Family dinner time was at 5:30 p.m. each day… ”Not 5:31!”
Paul and Jeanette enjoyed socializing with friends. Fun times included dancing at Happy’s Place and the Melody Mill, and family vacations at Lake Delton, WI, where they boated, water-skied, and had lots of laughs around the campfire with many cherished friends. He bowled and played Euchre, belonging to the same card club for over 50 years with special friends the Funke’s, Soat’s, Lindsay’s and Heying’s. He loved sports, watching and cheering for the Cubs, Packers, and Iowa Hawkeyes.
After their sons started their adult lives, Paul and Jeanette enjoyed traveling to various cities around the country to visit them and their grandchildren. Paul and Jeanette lived their entire lives in the Dubuque area, until moving to Kansas City, Missouri in 2019 to be closer to family.
Paul is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Jeanette, sons Kevin, Kansas City, MO; Mark (Susan) Southlake, TX; Greg (Julie) Liberty, MO; Jim (Roberta deceased) Columbus, Ohio. Jennifer Dazey
Jennifer “Jenny” Dazey, 46, was sadly taken from this world with her canine companion, Echo, at home on Thursday, January 18, 2024.
She was born August 24, 1977, to Ambrose and Susan (Roth) Dazey in Hawaii. Jenny called Dubuque, IA, home for most of her life.
There will be a celebration of life at Denny’s Lux Club at 3050 Asbury Rd, Dubuque, on Friday, January 26, at 4 pm. Jenny never wanted people to mourn for her traditionally, just to party and celebrate her. Due to her health, she discussed with her family that we cremate her in the event of her death and her ashes scattered in the ocean; the family’s goal is to get her to all five. Jenny loved traveling and disliked snow. Fun, bright colors are encouraged, including her favorite color, purple. For those wanting to celebrate, please bring your favorite memory of Jenny and be ready to party the way she would have enjoyed.
Those left behind to cherish her memories include her parents; her children, Nick Frey, Kylie and Tyler; siblings Bridget (Jered), Joshua, Katie Tressel (Randy), Phyllis (Brett), and Alex; nieces Morgan Dazey and Kennedy Noonan, nephews Killian Tressel; and family, too many to name. She is survived by so many friends who were there for her, and the family wishes they could include all of them by name. The family thanks each of them for everything they have done for her.
Jenny enjoyed life and pulled everyone into her light. She was a unique, carefree spirit, a loving person who did not care what people thought of her. Jenny was working on healing herself and was beginning to learn to garden. She would spend her days traveling, meeting new people, and being there for those she loved. Her smile and laugh was contagious. Her hugs were legendary.
Her greatest accomplishment was becoming a mother of three. She loved her kids more than anything and always rooted for them in their endeavors. To her, the family was not necessarily those who shared blood with her but those who loved and supported her. She loved family so much that it never mattered who it was; a stranger became family to her, and she will have forever imprinted herself onto many hearts.
You could find her any given day taking photos with her gnome, Willy, singing karaoke at random farmers markets, and seeing the country. One of her goals was to travel to each of the 50 states, and she was short by a few. Her kindness was palpable, and she went above and beyond to be present for those who needed her.
She was a gifted photographer. She graduated from the school of hard knocks and survived brain tumors and multiple surgeries.
The world is a little less bright without her. She lived. She loved.
To Jenny: You were a great mom. (Nick) Take comfort knowing your presence and legacy is that of joy. We will miss your daily affirmations. Echoing love. Rest in peace.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made directly to a fund set up for Nick and Kylie at https://gofund.me/91f61af2.

Sherry was born on January 19, 1944, in Dubuque, Iowa, daughter of Elmer and Irene (Wilkes) Miller.
Sherry was a life long resident of Dubuque. She was always a hard worker running her own businesses Fantastic Janitorial Service and Nice Things with Icings, working at Farmland Foods and lastly operating a press at Premier Tooling in Peosta. She married the love of her life, Richard Menadue, on August 26, 1961, at St. Michel’s Church in Savannah, Illinois. They celebrated 62 wedding anniversaries together and raised not only their own family but served as foster parents for several children throughout the years. Sherry loved her family beyond measure. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Sherry had many hobbies and interests, but especially looked forward to spending time in the great outdoors fishing, camping and sitting around the bonfire. She also had a great love of horses and everyone who knows her has a horse story to share. Sherry was a social butterfly and often played Bingo and Euchre with friends. She was also a gifted musician who loved to share her guitar music with others. Travel was also a favorite pastime for Sherry. Some of her favorite trips were to Hawaii, Florida and Germany, where she was able to find some interesting beer steins to add to her extensive collection. Sherry also enjoyed putting together jigsaw puzzles and laminated several of them to put on display. Sherry was a kind hearted, generous and giving woman who always took care of everyone around her. We are heartbroken at losing her, but know that she is resting peacefully in Heaven watching over us.
