Barbara S. Dague, age 83, of Dubuque, IA, formerly of Sabula, Clinton and Maquoketa, completed her earthly journey on April 25, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.  To honor Barb, a Celebration of Life will be held on May 17, 2025, at Boyer Hall, Jackson Co. Fairgrounds, Maquoketa.  A private family graveside service will be held at Reeseville Cemetery in Green Island, on June 12, 2025, which would have been Barb and Wayne’s 65th wedding anniversary.  The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving the family.

Barb was born on December 4, 1941, in Savanna, IL, daughter to Aksel and Mae Lovina (House) Johnson.  In her early years, Barb enjoyed working in the family store and making deliveries with her Dad.  Barb loved music, playing the piano and guitar, participating in school band, and was a tap dancer who, along with her sister made appearances on the local radio show.  She eventually met and married the love of her life, I. Wayne Dague on June 12, 1960.  They were blessed with two daughters to love, guide, and nurture.  They had over 55 wonderful years together until Wayne passed in 2015.  The couple worked hard and still made time for cards, horses, dancing, civic involvement, and pursuing their passions.  Barb was a beautician by trade, an instructor at the Professionals Academy of Science & Beauty, and even dabbled in retail and restaurant work.  Barb was a talented seamstress and applied her creative gifts while employed at Timber City Trophy.

She was a long-time and faithful member of the Calvary Lutheran Church in Sabula, a proud member of the Rebekah Lodge and a supporter of the East Central School Boosters.  Barb had a green-thumb and one of her beautiful African Violets was recognized at the county fair.  Barb loved her pets, baking cookies and time at the card table, whether playing for fun or competing for bragging rights.  Family and friends were familiar with her sassy and feisty demeanor but never doubted her commitment to finish the job, and to help others pursue their goals and to stay on the straight and narrow path.  Barb’s love was evidenced by the encouragement she offered through helpful words that, at times, felt more like a cattle prod or a 2 X 4.

Juanita D. Steichen

Juanita Dawn Steichen (Connor) passed away peacefully in her sleep, surrounded by love, her hair looking beautiful and her signature feather in place—just the way she would’ve wanted. In her final days, she was surrounded by her beloved children, grandchildren, and her cherished sister Cassie, celebrating the joyful engagement of her granddaughter Casey to Daniel (Goldberg). True to form, her last evening was spent enjoying a margarita at one of her favorite spots, Red Lobster, toasting to life and family.

Born in Galena, Illinois, Juanita was the daughter of Juanita May Connor (Deneen) and Donald L. Connor. She graduated from Galena High School – where surprisingly she played the flute- and later earned her nursing degree from St. Anthony’s Nursing School in Rockford, Illinois. Her dedication to caring for others defined her career, as she served faithfully as a nurse at Xavier and later Mercy Hospital until her retirement at age 65.

Juanita married the love of her life, Glen R. Steichen, and together they shared 45 years of marriage before his passing in 2002. She was blessed to find a second chapter of love with Lowell Wolter, her devoted partner of 15 years, who passed away in 2022.

A proud, lifelong fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, Juanita was a 40+ year season ticket holder and attended many bowl games from coast to coast. She saw Caitlin Clark play live as a Hawkeye and never missed a football season, thanks to the unwavering support of Bruce and Mark LeGrand, and her son Gene, who made sure she never missed a chance to cheer on her team. Her one heartbreak: never seeing the Hawkeyes win a Rose Bowl, despite faithfully attending four of them. But she’ll be watching from above when that day finally comes.

Juanita had a joyful spirit and a deep love of music, dancing, anything Irish, and—most of all—her family. She was proud of each of her children and grandchildren:
• Cynthia Steichen (Denver, CO)
• Gene Steichen (Los Angeles, CA)
• John Steichen (Omaha, NE)
• Dawn Steichen Buscher and husband Richard Buscher (Dallas, TX)

Her beloved grandchildren brought her endless joy and pride:
Kayla Kenyon (Denver, CO); Casey Buscher (Dallas, TX) and fiancé Daniel Goldberg; Connor Buscher (Dallas, TX) and partner Katelynn Kennedy; and Connor Steichen (Omaha, NE).

She is survived by her devoted sister and best friend, Kathleen “Cassie” Ann Hollatz (Connor) of Minocqua, WI. She was preceded in death by her husband Glen, her partner Lowell, and siblings Marlene May Connor, D David Connor, John David Connor ( surviving Janet Connor of Galena), and PVT John Patrick “Jack” Connor, who died in combat during WW2. And her beloved late father in law Nicholas Steichen.

Juanita gave back to her community through her many years as a volunteer with the Colts Drum and Bugle Corps—a cause close to her heart. In her honor, donations may be made to:
Colts Youth Organization
2300 Twin Valley Drive, Dubuque, IA 52003
(563) 582-4872 | https://colts.org/give

Though we wish she could be here for future graduations, weddings, and Iowa victories, we know she’ll be watching—cheering us on with love, laughter, and a little bit of sparkle.

Special thanks to her long-term hair stylist, confidant, and friend, Penny Frazer Veach (Design Works), Lauren Austin, her chauffeur, friend, and partner in crime, and Angie McNamer who has always been a constant source of friendship and support for Juanita and her family.

Suzanne L. Thorsness

Suzanne L. “Sue” Thorsness, age 77, of Galena, IL, formerly of Schaumburg, IL, completed her earthly journey on April 26, 2025, at Stonehill Care Center in Dubuque with her loving husband by her side.  To honor Sue’s life, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.  The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Sue’s family.

Sue was born on July 12, 1947, in Chicago, IL, a daughter to Robert and Dorothy (Christensen) Juull.  She possessed a quiet and gentle spirit and thoroughly enjoyed the simple moments in life as they came.  Sue was born and raised in the Chicago area and was a proud graduate of East Leyden High School in Franklin Park, IL.  She eventually made her way into the Athletic Directors Secretary position and invested over 25 years of her time and talents with the Schaumburg School District before retiring in 2007.  Upon retirement, Sue and her husband, Bob, made their way to Galena, IL, to enjoy the simple life and reap the fruits of their labors.  She found true joy and contentment in spending her days in the rural Galena setting surrounded by peace and tranquility at every turn.  Sue savored countless hours watching the abundance of beautiful birds at her feeders and always looked forward to having a deer walk unassumingly in her vicinity.  Only the added texture of a little Neil Diamond playing in the background could perfect each day even more.  Sue was an avid Chicago Black Hawks fan and made a point to catch a few games here and there with her friends when time allowed.

Sue enjoyed the finer things in life as well and always found time to visit her favorite supper clubs in the area.  She was a common fixture at Fried Green Tomatoes, Timmerman’s and the Moracco, among many others as she regularly ventured out for a nice relaxing evening of conversation with her husband, Bob, good friends and fine food.  She also treasured the ability to get a little traveling in from time to time and when her wine dinners locally needed a little extra enhancement, it was the perfect opportunity to venture right out to the Napa Valley and taste the excellent vintages firsthand.  Sue kept life uncomplicated whenever possible and always looked for the best parts of each day to fill her heart and soul with joy.  It’s difficult to imagine moving forward without Sue in our midst, and her sudden passing is almost more than our hearts can take, but we will be forever grateful for the 77 years that the Lord was gracious enough to share her with us and will now wait patiently to see her beautiful smile once again.  Thank you, Sue, for bringing so much love and light into the world around you and may peace be yours today as we seek peace in your lovely memory.

Those left behind to cherish the memory of Sue include,

her adoring soul-mate,
Robert A. “Bob” Thorsness, Galena, IL;

her daughter,
Kimberly Harkins, Elgin, IL;

her four grandchildren,
Andrew Osimowicz, Alaina Osimowicz, Tyler (Heather) Schulz, and Megan (fiancé Josh Rice) Schulz;

along with numerous extended family, friends, and neighbors.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Michelle Schulz; and her first husband of 18 years, Bill Harkins.

Sue’s family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Stonehill and Hospice of Dubuque for all of their professional and compassionate care.  We would also like to extend a very sincere and heartfelt thank you to the nurses on the 4th floor rehab unit at Finley Hospital who worked so diligently towards helping Sue with her stroke recovery.

Garry Joslyn

Garry “Josh” Joslyn, age 70, of Dubuque IA, completed his earthly journey on April 26, 2025, at Ennoble Manor after a brief and courageous battle with cancer.  Per Josh’s request, there will be no public services.  The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Josh’s family and friends.

Josh was born on July 22, 1954, in Seneca Falls, N.Y.  Josh was a naturally endeared adventurer at his core who boldly faced life head on without fear through each and every trial, blessing and tribulation that came his way.  At the mere young age of 14, Josh hit the open road and hitchhiked his way all the way to Billings, MT.  This would be the first of many stops along the way, but his story was about to begin.  Josh eventually met the love of his life, Barb, and the two became inseparable almost immediately.  They soon found themselves in Dubuque where Barb’s family was from.  Sadly, Barb was called home ahead of Josh in 2010 and his heart was never to be mended back completely as it once had been.

Josh spent some time as a roofer and a painter, but in time, he found his working hours being spent at Mi-T-M.  It was there where he met and became good friends with Matt Boll.  Matt and his girlfriend, Kara, spent countless hours with Josh over the years ahead of them.  Regular hikes at the Mines of Spain, ice cream cones on the river’s edge, and just about any opportunity Josh was up for, they were there as well.  Only a few of us ever have the honor and privilege of finding a long-lost brother out there in this big world around us, but Josh and Matt would both proudly proclaim that it was so for them.  It’s heartbreaking to imagine that we’ve had our last conversation, or listened to Josh’s last story of his adventures traveling the country, but we must face this sad reality.  Thank you, Josh, for reminding us that life is not about the quantity of shiny objects we possess, or the quantity of friends for that matter; true joy and peace in life can be found in the quality of the people we surround ourselves with and the love they complement our daily lives with.

Josh’s friends would like to express a sincere and heartfelt thank you to everyone at Ecumenical Towers for their love and support.  Dr. Hermann for his uncompromising compassion and professional care, along with the nurses and staff at Hospice of Dubuque for all of their generous and compassionate care.  And finally, a special thank you to everyone at Ennoble Manor (especially Carol), and all of the visiting nurses who took the time and patience to check on Josh, care for Josh, and towards the end recently, simply kept him comfortable.  Again, reinforcing what Josh already knew…the quality of the people in our lives is the most valuable gift we can every receive.

Ronald L. Yeager

Ronald LeeRoy Yeager, 85, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away peacefully with family by his side on Sunday, April 27, 2025, at the Mill Valley Care Center, Bellevue, Iowa.

Ron was born September 12, 1939, at the Leroy Hospital in Maquoketa to Dean and Ava Marie (Risinger) Yeager.  His first two years of school were at the Buckhorn School, then he completed his primary and secondary education at Elwood, graduating in 1956. He attended the University of Iowa for a year and a half. Ron married Marlyce Trimble in 1959 and brought forth two children Pamela (Mark) Meyer and Bruce (Cynthia Lett). Ron was united in marriage to Violet Barten on December 17, 1988, at the First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa, and was graced with two more children, Corby (Kim) Miller and Cammy (Steve) Schrobilgen.

Ron farmed in the Buckhorn community his entire life.  He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa and the Jackson County Historical Society.  He bowled his first games at Tubbs’ Lanes on East Platt in Maquoketa and was hooked. Ron became an avid bowler when the new lanes were built in town. He bowled the 5th sanctioned 800 series in the state of Iowa and won nine Iowa State Bowling Titles. He was inducted into the Iowa State Bowling Hall of Fame in 1984.

Good weather is essential to a farmer, and Ron managed to keep meticulous records of the activity at the farm, and adjacent locales, for decades. He ran a reporting outpost for the National Weather Bureau for 18 years at Willow Pond Farm which kept him tethered to the place he cherished most. His love of the seasons and the growth of the landscape was apparent in all his observations and conversations, be they with family or with the breakfast club. Ron and Vi spent many hours, days and miles going antiquing. They enjoyed this pastime immensely.

He cherished moments with his grandchildren, and any opportunity to tell stories, share his remarkable memory, cultivate perspective and a refreshed outlook in their worlds. Like his family before him, time spent fishing at the pond and playing games from cards to chess with the kids was enriching for all.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Vi Yeager of Maquoketa; his children Pam (Mark) Meyer of Dewitt, Iowa, and Bruce (Cynthia) Yeager of Chicago, Illinois; his step children Corby (Kim) Miller of Hutchison, Kansas, and Cammy (Steve) Schrobilgen of Rogers, Arkansas; and six grandchildren, Brigitta Meyer, Amber (Blain) Chambers, Evan and Aneliese Yeager, and Lexi (Brian) McCoun and Cade Schrobilgen.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, May 3rd, 2025, at the Carson Celebration of Life Center, Maquoketa.  Burial will follow at Union Cemetery, Maquoketa.  Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 pm on Friday, May 2nd, 2025, at the Carson Celebration of Life Center, Maquoketa. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made in Ron’s name to Above and Beyond Hospice and Jackson County and Historical Society.

Online condolences may be left for the family at www.CarsonAndSon.com.
