Lisa A. Kloft
Lisa A. Kloft, age 53 of Sherrill, Iowa completed her earthly journey on January 9, 2019 after a tragic fire at her home. To celebrate Lisa’s life, a Celebration of Life will be held at the Tri-State Community Church, 12937 Derby Grange Road, Dubuque, Iowa with Pastor Jack Redmond officiating. Service times will be announced after her loving husband, John who was also injured in the housefire, has had more time to heal. Burial will be in the Mount Calvary Cemetery in Dubuque in early summer. The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Lisa’s family.
Lisa was born on October 17, 1965 in Maquoketa, Iowa, a daughter to Ivan and Betty (Arensdorf) Kloft. Sadly, Lisa’s father was called home when she was only a little girl, but thankfully Betty and the family were truly blessed when James Rauscher walked into their lives and committed himself to loving them all as his own. Lisa always enjoyed having a little fun in the summer when some downtime presented itself, and on one of those relaxing days with friends on the river, she met her true love, John Joseph Oglesby. The two became inseparable from that point on and continued to spend the next 34 years together. They were blessed with one son, John James Oglesby along the way and Lisa always knew she had found the love which would last a lifetime with her 2 boys by her side.
After Lisa had graduated from high school, she attended Capri College in Dubuque and shortly after began her career in cosmetology. She enjoyed the 7 years she was able to work with her friends and clients at City Looks in Kennedy Mall, but she also thoroughly enjoyed the time she’d get to catch up with her friends and family members at home while keeping them all trimmed up and looking good right in the comfort of her own kitchen. Lisa eventually decided it was time for a change in her professional career and took on her new challenge at Flexsteel Industries. She invested over 14 years there before putting a few more years in at Eagle Window and Door, and finally faithfully spent the last 4 years at Casey’s Convenience Store in Key West; where she may have actually spent quite a bit more time visiting with friends and co-workers than she would readily and openly admit.
Lisa took pride in everything she did and her appearance was no exception. She was a natural beauty (so it didn’t take much work on her part) and she never walked out the door without putting on her best. Lisa absolutely adored her family each and every day, especially the 3rd and 4th loves of her life, Jesse and James, her Doberman Pinshers who religiously kept her company for 14 years until they passed last year. Lisa learned early in life that a little personal time had its place in the day too. She was generally a gentle, kind and quiet soul, but when she sat down to watch Ellen, or Dr. Phil you could occasionally hear her laugh, cry, or even voice an opinion or two if the TV audience wasn’t correctly hearing what she had heard. Lisa walked softly throughout her much to short 53 years with us. Her love was sincere, and her patience ran deep, but one thing is for certain when it comes to her impact on the world; Lisa touched more lives than you could count and thankfully every one of them possesses a wonderful memory of her which will hopefully help mend the many broken hearts she leaves behind today. Thank you, Lisa, for allowing your light to shimmer ever so softly and we pray that you find true peace while laying poolside in your new Heavenly Estate until we see you again.
Those left behind to cherish the memory of Lisa include,
her husband,
John Oglesby, Sherrill, Iowa;
her son,
John Oglesby, Dubuque, Iowa;

Kelly (Rock) Munsee, South Carolina,

her brother-in-law,
Ken (Kelley Hall) Oglesby, Dubuque, Iowa;
her sister-in-law,

along with numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Lisa was preceded in death by her parents.
Lisa’s family would like to sincerely thank the Sherrill Fire Department, the Dubuque County Sherriff’s Department, Mercy Hospital, the University of Iowa, along with all of the generous people and businesses in the community who have been very kind in the giving of their time, talents and treasure to help her family through these very difficult days. In 2010 he was awarded a distinguished Alumni Award for his service. In his role at Loras College, he was instrumental in helping thousands of students finance their college education. He then watched as they graduated and went on to lead happy and successful lives. Charlie considers this – the students that he helped – as his legacy.
After his retirement, Charlie also worked as a chase driver for Truck Country from Oct 1996 until 2006.
Charlie married Edna Hargrafen on October 18, 1958, at the Church of the Nativity. She preceded him in death on July 11, 1974. On August 2, 1979, he married Lela (Sweeney) Dunn at St. Columbkille’s.
Charlie really enjoyed his life. He grew up on a farm, and that gave him an appreciation of all of God’s creation. He liked being outdoors. He deliberately tried to love and laugh every day. He prayed daily and trusted in God. He felt so thankful because he had a career that he loved and a life that he loved surrounded by people that he loved…and a whisky Manhattan every night. Living to him was joy. He wouldn’t want people to feel any sorrow at his passing.
Those who knew Charlie knew of his unique passion for fun and shenanigans. Let’s honor his memory by following his example and strive to create more love and laughter in this world. Charlie was proud to be from Harpers Ferry Iowa. He grew to love Dubuque and was a member of the Serra Club, American Legion Post 6, and past member of St Columbkille’s school board.
Charlie was challenged with Alzheimer’s the last eight years of his life. It slowly robbed him of his vitality, but it did not dim his spirit. He marched on bravely and steadfastly, living each day to the fullest extent that he could.
Charlie’s quality of life was greatly enhanced by availing himself to the resources offered in this community, as he needed them.
Over time, the assembled team of care givers served him well. Dr. Mark Runde and his staff at Medical Associates were key in this journey. Also helpful were the caring and compassionate staffs at Mercy Medical Center, Manor Care, Paramount Transfer Service, Cozy Corner Adult Daycare, the entire Medical Associates Campuses; and then recently, Hospice of Dubuque.
Perhaps the most critical component of Charlie’s well-being was a cadre of care givers from Luther Manor Services. They took care of him on a daily basis, with the utmost compassion and dignity. We will be forever indebted to Julia, Linda, Kay, Marsha, Annie, Karen, Patty, Alex, and Wendy and others throughout the years; without you, Charlie’s life would not have been so active and enriched. The patience and care shown by these professionals in the face of this often- frustrating disease was truly awe inspiring. We, the McCormick family, salute you all, and thank you all.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Lela McCormick of Dubuque; six children, Dave (Lynn) McCormick of West Des Moines, Joe McCormick, Ruth McCormick, Mary (Leon) Jensen and Helen (John “Fritz”) Gile, all of Dubuque and Kevin (Deb) McCormick of Pewaukee, WI; eight step-children, Mike (Julie) Dunn of Dubuque, Marcia Dunn of LaCrosse, WI, Mary (Mark) Goldsher of Lake Oswego, OR, Moreen (Dave) Fitzgerald of Kearney, MO, Michele (Pat) Colbert of Dubuque, Melissa (Chris) McCarville of Springdale, AR, Mark Dunn of Asheville NC, and Molly (Jody) Steinke of Quincy, IL; 24 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Sara J. Dalsing
Sara J. (McGovern) Dalsing, age 77, of Dubuque, was called home peacefully at 1:20 p.m., on Wednesday, January 23, 2019, at Bethany Home, surrounded by her loving family. To honor Sara’s life, funeral services will be held at 5:30 p.m., on Thursday, January 31, 2019, at Behr Funeral Home, with Deacon John Stierman officiating. To celebrate Sara’s life, family and friends may visit from 3:00 p.m., until the time of services at 5:30 p.m., on Thursday, January 31, 2019, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery at a later date.
Sara was born on July 16, 1941, in Dubuque, Iowa, daughter of Robert and Jane (Bierie) McGovern.
Sara was a proud life-long resident of Dubuque who graduated from the Visitation Academy, Class of 1959, and went on to attend the University of Mexico for 2 years in Mexico City, and later Clarke College. She was united in marriage to the love of her life, Edward Dalsing, in November of 1968, at the Church of the Nativity, and they were blessed with 31 years and 2 adored children together, before he was sadly called home ahead of her on October 18, 1999. Sara was a devoted wife and mother, who also put her many talents to use with American Realty as a realtor for 8 years, and then went on to work for several years at Clarke College, NICC, and lastly as a paraprofessional at Lincoln School, until her well earned retirement. In her free time Sara enjoyed spending time outside tending to her beautiful gardens and going for long walks. She was also very excited to do some traveling whenever the opportunity arose, and has visited many interesting places throughout the years. Without a doubt the greatest joy in Sara’s life was her family, she loved spending time with Ed and the kids and when the grandchildren were born they brought immeasurable happiness into her days. We are deeply saddened at the loss of our sweet mom, grandma and sister today, but take some comfort in knowing that she is now at peace and free of the health challenges she has faced these past years. The world is definitely a better place for Sara being in it for the past 77 years, and we will do our best to continue to honor her legacy of spreading kindness and love to those around her.
Those left to cherish Sara’s memory include
her children,
Todd (Candace) Dalsing

her 4 grandchildren,

and her siblings,
