Lori A. Story
Lori A. Story, age 60 of Dubuque, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at home, surrounded by her loving family. To celebrate Lori’s life, family and friends may visit from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 15, 2019 at the Steeple Square, 105 East 15th Street, Dubuque. To honor Lori’s life, a Celebration of Life will be held at 7:00 p.m. at Steeple Square, with Pastor Jack Redmond officiating. The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Lori’s family.
Lori was born on March 3, 1959, in Hazel Green, Wisconsin, a daughter to Francis “Pete” and Mary (Kisting) Splinter. Lori did her part in making the world a better place while taking care of others and her years in the working world would concurrently reflect her passion as such. She faithfully spent many years as a phlebotomist at both the United Clinical Laboratories and Dubuque Internal Medicine until she eventually had to retire due to health issues. She was known well by her patients. She had also invested a few years working in other locations, but at the end of the day her work in the lab was where she truly felt she was making a positive impact for others. Lori wasn’t just all about work though. She treasured her homelife with family, visitors and was beyond grateful to have found true love with her adoring husband, Timothy “Timmy” Story. The two have been inseparable since they met and married in 1995. These last months of fighting that Lori had to endure were made much easier for her, knowing that her unwavering partner and best friend was always by her side along with her fur “babies” Bella, Riley and Tilly.
Lori also had a natural affinity for all of God’s 4-legged creatures. Making a difference took shape in many forms for her. If she was capable of making any situation better for another living creature, you could bet she’d be right there. Lori’s commitment to the Dubuque Humane Society and the ASPCA were always on display for those who knew her. Lori also enjoyed a little downtime to relax with family and friends whenever possible. In years past, she would love to sit around the campfire, or even try her luck at bingo, faithfully every Thursday night. These were definite possibilities when she was still feeling well enough. A little serene solitude could also find its way into Lori’s days from time to time and an evening of working the crochet needle back and forth or getting lost in a novel were a couple of her favorite ways to unwind. Of course, she had “her shows” that she faithfully followed also.
What truly drove Lori’s joyful spirit in this life was her deep and dear relationships with family and friends. She was always there when someone needed to talk and never missed an opportunity to simply bond. She was relentless about making sure the people who held a special place in her heart never had to wonder about it. She was loyal to a fault, honest as they come and forever committed to those she cared about. To say that Lori was a kind and generous soul may be an understatement, but we’ll have to embrace them for now until more accurate words can be invented. We will miss her beautiful smile, her contagious laugh and her never-surrender attitude. Thank you, Lori for so effortlessly being a role-model on how to get the most out of this journey for those of us left behind. May the Lord give you peace and keep you safe in the palm of His hands until we see you again! We know you’ve always had many angels watching over you and now you can be with them. You will be a most beautiful angel.

Lisa A. Kloft
Lisa A. Kloft, age 53, of Sherrill, Iowa completed her earthly journey on January 9, 2019 after a tragic fire at her home.
To celebrate Lisa’s life, family and friends may visit from 12:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at the Tri-State Community Church, 12937 Derby Grange Road, Dubuque, Iowa. To honor Lisa’s life, a Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, with Pastor Jack Redmond officiating. Burial will be in the Mount Calvary Cemetery. The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Lisa’s family.
Lisa was born on October 17, 1965 in Maquoketa, Iowa, a daughter to Ivan and Betty (Arensdorf) Kloft. Sadly, Lisa’s father was called home when she was only a little girl, but thankfully Betty and the family were truly blessed when James Rauscher walked into their lives and committed himself to loving them all as his own. Lisa always enjoyed having a little fun in the summer when some downtime presented itself, and on one of those relaxing days with friends on the river, she met her true love, John Joseph Oglesby. The two became inseparable from that point on and continued to spend the next 34 years together. They were blessed with one son, John James Oglesby along the way and Lisa always knew she had found the love which would last a lifetime with her 2 boys by her side.
After Lisa had graduated from high school, she attended Capri College in Dubuque and shortly after began her career in cosmetology. She enjoyed the 7 years she was able to work with her friends and clients at City Looks in Kennedy Mall, but she also thoroughly enjoyed the time she’d get to catch up with her friends and family members at home while keeping them all trimmed up and looking good right in the comfort of her own kitchen. Lisa eventually decided it was time for a change in her professional career and took on her new challenge at Flexsteel Industries. She invested over 14 years there before putting a few more years in at Eagle Window and Door, and finally faithfully spent the last 4 years at Casey’s Convenience Store in Key West, where she may have actually spent quite a bit more time visiting with friends and co-workers than she would readily and openly admit.
Lisa took pride in everything she did and her appearance was no exception. She was a natural beauty (so it didn’t take much work on her part) and she never walked out the door without putting on her best. Lisa absolutely adored her family each and every day, especially the 3rd and 4th loves of her life, Jesse and James, her Doberman Pinschers, who religiously kept her company for 14 years until they passed last year. Lisa learned early in life that a little personal time had its place in the day too. She was generally a gentle, kind and quiet soul, but when she sat down to watch Ellen, or Dr. Phil you could occasionally hear her laugh, cry, or even voice an opinion or two if the TV audience wasn’t correctly hearing what she had heard. Lisa walked softly throughout her much to short 53 years with us. Her love was sincere, and her patience ran deep, but one thing is for certain when it comes to her impact on the world; Lisa touched more lives than you could count and thankfully every one of them possesses a wonderful memory of her which will hopefully help mend the many broken hearts she leaves behind today. Thank you, Lisa, for allowing your light to shimmer ever so softly and we pray that you find true peace while laying poolside in your new Heavenly Estate until we see you again.
Those left behind to cherish the memory of Lisa include,

her sister-in-law,

Donna J. (Moore) Duve
Donna J. (Moore) Duve, age 84, of Dubuque, was called home peacefully at 10:14 p.m., on Tuesday, March 5, 2019, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, surrounded by her loving family. To honor Donna’s life, funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Monday, March 11, 2019, at Holy Spirit Parish, Sacred Heart Church, 2215 Windsor Avenue, with Rev. Donna was born on December 16, 1934, in Dubuque, Iowa, daughter of John and Beulah (McNamer) Moore and loving step-father Vince Loeffelholz.
Donna was united in marriage to the love of her life, David “Bud” Duve, in 1949, and the cute couple were blessed with 61 years, and 18 adored children together, before Bud was sadly called home ahead of her on February 6, 2010. Donna was a devoted full time wife, mother and homemaker, who with 18 children, always had plenty to keep her busy and on her toes. When she was able to get a little time to herself, Donna enjoyed heading out to the Knights of Columbus bingo hall to spend time with friends and try her luck, hoping to bring home a big windfall. She also enjoyed spending time outside fishing with the family, and going on the occasional shopping trip, always keeping an eye out for a great bargain. There was never any denying that the one thing that brought the most joy into Donna’s days was spending time with her abundant family, especially the grandchildren, it never mattered to her what they were doing, just that they were all together. We are deeply saddened at the sudden loss of our beautiful, sweet, loving mom, grandma, great-grandma, great great-grandma and sister, but know that she is now happily reunited with her beloved husband, sons and grandson, free of the health issues she’s battled these past few months.

Kaiden Chamberlain Bass
Kaiden Chamberlain Bass, 18, left this world and went straight to Heaven on Thursday, February 28, 2019.
A celebration of his life will be from 2 to 8 pm, Saturday, at the Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 Kennedy Road where there will be a sharing of love and memories throughout.
Kaiden was born on July 16, 2000, at Mercy Hospital in Dubuque. He had fuzzy blond hair, chubby little cheeks, gorgeous blue eyes, and a little dimple in his chin. The nurses commented on his perfect little looks and said his name “sounded like royalty”, something his mother never forgot.
When he was little, as soon as he could walk, he loved to play with his uncle’s tools, sometimes “fixing” things he probably shouldn’t have (scratching his uncle’s motorcycle and the family’s cars). He loved his red three-wheeler tricycle, which he rode for many years, even making it into the newspaper once riding his red trike thru a puddle. He loved the dogs he grew up with and going on hikes with them and walks by the river with his “Dia”. Dia is his maternal grandma. When he was learning to talk, he would say “Dia” instead of Grandma and to this day she is known to all by that nickname.
He started riding a razor scooter when he was just 4 years old. He went thru store bought one after store bought one and when the cheap ones from the local stores no longer kept up with his ever evolving tricks and ramps, he began ordering professional parts, piece-by-piece online. We lost track of how many times he customized the parts, took his scooter apart, and put them back together with the new ones. We also lost track of how much money we must have spent. He and his little brother spent hours building their own ramps and rails. His little brother Kam (his “Bud”) was his very best friend, he always included him and all their hobbies were done together. Their bond is unbreakable.
He aspired to be a Police Officer until Junior High or so and even mentioned wanting to be a Psychologist in High School. He never made fun of anyone or bullied anyone because of their ethnicity, sexual orientation, or beliefs. Kaiden was kind hearted and accepted people for who they are. He was soft spoken and genuinely sweet natured. He recently purchased a professional BMX bike that he was excited to get into when the weather warmed up. He liked playing games on his Xbox and PC with his friends.
Kaiden was a graduate of Wahlert High School in Dubuque, where he was loved and cared for by his wonderful teachers to whom we are forever grateful.
Kaiden loved his family more than anything else. He never asked anyone for anything. He was polite and caring. He was grateful and selfless. He was noble and too good for this world.
He is survived by his mother and father, Jordan (Josh Jansen) Bass and Bert (Barbara Cervantes) Carner; his siblings, Kameron, Danika, Gage, Logan, Alexis, Vanessa, Aryana and Dylan; his very special maternal Grandmother “Dia” Dana Bass and his Paternal Grandparents Joseph (Myleen) Bass and Julie and Rick Carner. His sweet and beloved Aunt Stacy Birch whom he cherished. He is also survived by his uncles, Brandon and Griffin Bass; his aunts Shannon (Ben) Averkamp, Tanya Carner, and Nora Mulgrew, all of Dubuque; his special Aunt and Uncle Margaret (Henkels) and Kyle Johnson; his nieces, Kalia and Ayla, many cousins; and finally, his beloved American Bulldog, Daisy.
We would like to thank the kindest and sweetest police officer we have ever met, Chief of Police, Mr. Tom Henneberry.
The very best for last, thank you, Kaiden. Thank you for everything you taught us about love and how to love. We are forever grateful for every second we had with you. We are honored and humbled by all the gifts you gave us.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you slow down, take more time to remind all of those that are precious to you how much they mean to you, give them a hug, make them laugh, and tell them how much you love them every chance you get.
Pastor Larry R. Stark
Pastor Larry R. Stark, 78, of Dubuque, Iowa, went to Heaven on Monday, March 4, 2019, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. His death was the result of rare complications of shingles he contracted in December.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 8, 2019, at Bible Baptist Church, 940 Walker Street, Dubuque. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, March 7, 2019, at Bible Baptist Church. Family and friends may also gather after 9:30 a.m. Friday at the church until time of service. On Tuesday, March 12th, his body will be laid to rest in Crestlawn Memorial Cemetery, Conway, AR, with a brief service at 11:00 a.m.
Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, Dubuque, IA, is assisting the family.
Pastor Stark was the oldest child of the late R.O. and Doris Stark of Conway, AR. He is survived by his sweetheart of 57 years, Paula Bell Stark; four daughters, LaVonna (Joel) Butler, of Gaylord, MI; LaNita (Dirk) Margheim of Alexandria, LA; Lisa (Scott) Griffin, of Dubuque, IA; and Laura (Bobby) Buchanan of Midland, TX; three sisters, Wanda (Fred) Landers of Conway, AR; Betty Jones of Richmond, KY; and Donna Hall of Conway, AR; sixteen grandchildren, four of whom are married; and nine nieces and nephews.
He was a Baptist preacher for 57 years, pastoring churches in AR, MO, LA, ND, and IA. The loving people of Bible Baptist Church, Dubuque, IA, his present pastorate of 22 years, deeply mourn his untimely death along with his family.
Pastor Stark loved God’s Word, spending hours daily reading, praying, and preparing sermons. Over the years he taught many valuable truths, including the relationship between thanksgiving and grace, speaking life, gifts to the King, and faithfulness to church. Sermons were sprinkled with personal illustrations that became as familiar to his congregation as to himself. He often said, “God reserves His best for those who give Him their best.”
He had a brilliant mind and never stopped learning. He enjoyed helping his granddaughters and church youngsters with math or crossword puzzles, and loved attending local high school basketball games. A favorite topic was food, and his family joked that he spent one meal planning the next. Pastor Stark had a delightful sense of humor and a great laugh. He and his precious Paula Sue did everything together. They loved road trips, especially to a grandchild’s graduation or wedding. He would have been so grateful for the outpouring of love and care shown by so many to Paula the last 2 1/2 months. One of the most humble, unselfish men you will ever meet, he will be dearly missed until we meet again in Heaven.
