Also he will be lovingly remembered by 16 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and a list of friends too long to name.

Roger Andrew Anderson was born on November 18, 1936 in Preston, Iowa, to Andy Andrew and Bernice (Koch) Anderson. After high school graduation, he served his country in the U.S. Army as a carpenter. He married Elaine Calkins and they had five children. Roger had worked at Caterpillar in Mt. Joy for more than 28 years until retirement. In retirement, he worked for the Genesis Medical Center in DeWitt in the Maintenance Department for over ten years.

Roger was passionate about the outdoors and was an avid hunter and trapper, much to the dismay of the local raccoons, muskrats and squirrels. As a beloved father, he passed on his respect for nature to his children.

In the last year of his life, Roger became a follower of Christ. He enjoyed attending First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa and reading his Bible. We honor the man who honored God with his heart until he heard the call to heaven.

A celebration of Roger’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 28 at First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa, Iowa. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10 – 11am at the church. Rosemary Catherine (Nieland) Neumann

Rosemary Catherine (Nieland) Neumann, 86, of Dubuque, passed away Monday, July 16, 2018 at home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 19, at Church of the Resurrection, 4300 Asbury Rd., Dubuque, where friends may greet the family from 9 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. Rev. Andy Upah will officiate. Burial will be in Dubuque Memorial Gardens. Friends may also greet the family from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 18, at Church of the Resurrection, where there will be a prayer service at 2:30 p.m. Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home and Cremation Service is entrusted with arrangements.

She was born April 26, 1932 in Luxemburg, Iowa. Rosie grew up in a farming community and moved to Dubuque with a group of girls that she stayed forever friends with. She married Gordon James Neumann on April 23, 1960.

She worked at Dubuque Pack in the ham and bacon department, then after getting married stayed home to raise their three children. She later worked for the Dubuque Community School administration building before retiring.

Rosie was one of the most energetic people you could have ever met until May of this year when Leukemia took control. You often would find her on the golf course and on her 86th birthday she had a hole in one. There wasn’t a card game that she couldn’t win, change the rules on, or create a new version of. Some of her most enjoyable times were spent with her Nieland family playing a loud rambunctious game of Euchre with some twist or crazy version. Often times she would be found around the city playing euchre tournaments or bridge.

She volunteered at numerous places in Dubuque, the hospital, the mission, the grand theater and the museum. She was a people person and always seemed to get someone to tell her who they were or “who they belonged to”. She bowled over the years and was a 600 club member and made many friends along the way.

Rosie had a garden every year that somehow managed to be ready way before anyone else’s. There were no such things as straight rows in her garden, somehow everything landed just where it was supposed to grow. She shared the wealth of this garden with many friends and neighbors.

Golfing became her passion in the last few years; she sure would not like it when they would get rained out – she would say that “sure goofed up her day”. She really looked forward to getting out on that course and she would walk the entire thing never settling for a ride in a cart.

Rosie had 5 grandchildren that would literally light up her face, from sharing Hawkeye games, or bean bag toss, or one of their sporting events which she rarely missed – and of course a game of cards whenever she could talk them into it. Josh, Monica, Ryan, Tyler and Amanda were her pride and joy.

Then came her great grandchildren and her legacy lives on – teaching them card games, and not letting them just win either, or reading a book, or just laughing with them she was always so excited to see or hear about their latest escapades. Charlie, Avery, Edith, Sophia, Lukas, Raylan and Crosby gave her hours of enjoyment and she couldn’t get enough of them.

Rosie will be sadly missed by her friends and family, but we all know she is playing cards at the big table in the heavens surrounded by many family members and friends, and she has found peace.

Rosie is survived by her husband Gordon, daughters: Dawne (Joe) OMeara, Michelle (Wayne Schnier) and son Kyle (Kelly) Neumann. Grandchildren: Josh (Alice) Habel, Monica (Bart) Sitarski, Ryan (Haley) Schnier, Tyler (Lauren) Neumann, Amanda (Tyler) Menhusen.
Great Grandchildren: Charlie and Edith Habel, Avery Schnier, Sophia and Lukas Sitarski, and Raylan and Crosby Neumann, brother Ray (Dana) Nieland, brothers in law: Richard Neumann, Gene (Kay) Neumann & Jim (Bev) Neumann. Numerous nieces, nephews, and godchildren that she adored.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother Benjamin & Maria Magdalena Nieland, her in-laws William & Kathryn Neumann, her sister Armella Nuehring and her husband Kenny, her brothers LaVern and wife Coletta Nieland, Elmer and wife Adele Nieland, and Harold in infancy.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Dubuque during this difficult time especially Courtney, Amy, Peggy & Diane.

Mom you will forever take a part of us with you and a part of you will stay within each and everyone of us, until we join you in that card game in the heavens we will be smiling at the memories we have created together.
