Gene Ehlers
Gene Ehlers, 81, of Elwood, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Wednesday afternoon, September 29, 2021, at Ennoble Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Dubuque, Iowa.
A celebration of his life will be held at 10 A.M., Saturday, October 9, 2021, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 P.M., Friday, October 8, 2021, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Burial will be at the Sutton Cemetery, rural Maquoketa, Iowa.
Carroll Gene Ehlers was born on June 27, 1940 in Jackson County, Iowa, to George and Matilda (Peters) Ehlers. He was educated in Jackson County country schools. He married Patricia F. “Pat” Hute on January 7, 1961 in Maquoketa, Iowa. She preceded him in death on February 2, 2004.
Gene had worked various jobs throughout the years. He had worked at Hayes Bros. Dairy, Bowman Cattle Co., Clinton Engines, and as a farmhand for Frank Myatt and later Glenn Myatt. He had also worked for Rockwell Cleanup, did grave digging, and lastly as an installer and repairman for Lowden Plumbing and Heating.
Gene enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and butchering. He especially enjoyed tractors and attending “The Old Thrashers” in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa each year.
Those left to honor his memory include his children, Barbara Klossner of Delmar, IA, Carol (Charles) Feldpausch of LaMotte, IA, Larry (and girlfriend Jolyn) Ehlers of Oxford Junction, IA, Gary Ehlers of Lost Nation, IA, Michael (Rena) Ehlers of Scotch Grove, IA, Michele (Don) Weimerskirch of Davenport, IA, and Karen (Neal) Kilburg of MO; 17 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren; 10 step-great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law, Geraldine Ehlers of Andrew, IA, and Elaine Ehlers of Anamosa, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, brothers John, LeRoy and Gerald, and sisters Evelyn Sutphin, Ethel Rockwell and Gloria Belinger.

Corrine I. Schulte
Corrine I. (Victor) Schulte, 94, of Bellevue, passed away on Monday, September 27, 2021 at Mercy One in Dubuque. Funeral Mass will be 11:00 am, Friday, October 1, 2021 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Bellevue. Family will greet friends 9:00 am – 10:30 am, also on Friday, October 1, 2021prior to Mass at Hachmann-Mier Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Bellevue. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Bellevue.
Corrine was born September 2, 1927 in St. Donatus, the daughter of Joseph and Margaret (Even) Victor. She married John Schulte on September 9, 1947 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, he passed on May 16, 1966. Corrine was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and the Rosary Society. She loved the Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes, needle work, an occasional trip to the casino, and loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. Corrine was an excellent baker and cook, and her specialty was pie baking. She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her children, Bette Herrig, Jane (Dennis) Ernst, and Thomas (Laura) Schulte; 6 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; siblings, Cletus (Arlene) Victor, and Armella Kueter.
Corrine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter and son in-law, Mary Jo (Harold) Heiar; a son in-law, David Herrig; a grandson, Troy Ernst; a sister, Adelle (Norbert) Weinschenk, and a brother in-law, Paul Kueter.
A memorial fund has been established in Corrine’s memory.

Mildred E. Russell
Mildred E. (Bartels) Russell, 101, died September 24, 2021, at ManorCare, Dubuque, IA following complications from a fall on Labor Day.
Visitation will be on October 11, 2021, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road where a service will be held at 5:00 p.m. with Rev. Dianne Grace officiating. Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 12th, 2021, at Dubuque Memorial Gardens.
Milly was born in Lore (Dubuque County), Iowa January 25, 1920, the 8th child of Henry and Elizabeth (Fischer) Bartels. She attended the one room Lore School through eighth grade, moved on to Dubuque Senior High School (class of 1937), then attended Bayless Business College. She worked in Cedar Rapids for a time before moving to Washington, D.C. taking a position as a secretary at the Pentagon for the Department of the Army. On a vacation back to Dubuque, she met the love of her life, Donald Russell. They married on October 11, 1952, at the Wartburg Seminary Chapel.
Milly loved being a wife, mother and homemaker. She loved to cook and bake for family and friends and enjoyed a ‘goodie’ for herself anytime. She was involved in PTA at her children’s schools and belonged to numerous groups at St. Matthew Lutheran Church where she was a lifelong member. She participated in both women’s and mixed bowling leagues and enjoyed playing in a monthly euchre club for over 50 years. Among some of her favorite things were music from the Big Band era (especially Lawrence Welk), bird watching (cardinals in particular) and conversations with family and friends. She had a gentle spirit but loved having a good time and the simple things in life.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Wanda Dunn, son-in-law, grandson Alexander Dunn, as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by seven siblings – Raymond, Harold, Margaret, Frederick, Dorothy, Marian, and Melvin as well as her husband Donald and son Dale.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to Hospice of Dubuque, Dubuque Arboretum and Botanical Gardens, or St. Matthew Lutheran Church.
The family would like to thank her doctors, nurses and staff of the Surgical Services Unit- 4 West at Mercy One, the nurses and staff at ManorCare, and members of her Hospice of Dubuque team for her care during the last three weeks. Many thanks to friends and family (especially Tom and Beth Simpson and Sister Paula Schwendinger) for their love and support through Milly’s final days.
David W. Muntz
David Wayne Muntz, 60 of Dubuque, Iowa passed away on September 25, 2021, in the comfort of his family and home.
Family and friends may gather from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 2nd, 2021, at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road. A funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Deacon Bill Hickson officiating and military honors accorded by the Dubuque Marine Corps League.
David was born on February 11, 1961, in Dubuque, IA the son of Gerald Muntz and Donna (Eppler) Muntz. He married Dina (Demmer) Muntz on November 24, 1984, at Nativity Church, Dubuque Iowa. He was a US Navy Veteran, Quarter Master.
Retired from Anderson Windows, formerly Eagle Window and Door after 33 years of service.
What lit up Dave’s world was attending his son’s football games, where they established a bond over football that carried over into their love and loyalty for the Minnesota Vikings. He cherished the days he taught his daughter to fish and find the magic in music. Dave had a few nicknames, but will certainly be remembered as, The Candy Man to his, “lovies.” He really enjoyed the gift of giving, Christmas was his favorite time of year, where he got to see little faces light up with excitement and anticipation. Feeding birds was more than a hobby, but another gift of giving back in his eyes. April lilacs gave him the go-ahead to forage for his favorite delicacy, the morel. Dave was the best kind of instigator, a little nudge of sarcasm went a long way for this man and was always shown by a twinkle in his eye and smirk in the curve of his lips, he loved to stoke his wife’s fire, but above all, he found love through his lighthouse, his soulmate and best friend.
He is survived by hie wife, Dina (Demmer) Muntz; his son, David Muntz II; his daughter, Tiana (Muntz) Schrobilgen; his son-In-law, Travis; Grandchildren, Devin, Kiara, Kaleigh, and Maverick of Dubuque, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Debbie Duve.
The family would like to extend a special thank you, to Dr. Cheryl Morgan-Ihrig and the nursing staff of Mercy Cancer Center for helping Dave fight his battle and another special thanks to Hospice of Dubuque for helping him finish out his journey the way he wanted to. In addition to his group of warriors they would like to thank, Leonard Funeral Home and their light workers for their assistance in the memorial of his life here on earth.
Frances L. Rogers
Frances L. Rogers, 85, of Galena, IL, passed away from a sudden illness and went to join her Lord and Savior and husband Andy on Monday, September 27, 2021.
Visitation will be from 9:00 – 10:45 a.m. on Friday, October 1, 2021 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Galena, where funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, with Pastor Blake Shipman officiating. Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Burge Cemetery, New London, IA.
Fran was born on July 17, 1936 in Des Moines, IA, the daughter of Robert C. and Marian (Sheldon) Fuller. She grew up in East Des Moines on what is now part of Grandview University campus. The heart of the family was Grandview Plumbing founded by her grandfather Charles and run by her father and his many brothers and where her mother served as the receptionist and bookkeeper. There she had many escapades with her best friend Norman and cousins.
Upon graduation from East High, she attended Grandview University in Des Moines and later graduated from the University of Iowa, Iowa City, IA with a degree in medical technology. At the time, it was rare for women to have a profession. Upon graduation and against the will of her parents, she moved to Kansas City to work. There she cherished her independence and her many friends.
She met the love of her life in the 60s and was married to Andy E. Rogers on November 11, 1962. Living in a small apartment in New London, IA, they started their family with the births of Ann and Susan. Andy’s growing positions at local banks took them from Iowa to Wisconsin where Brooke was born.
The family then moved was to Galena, IL. It was there Fran resumed her career as a medical technologist at the Galena-Stauss Hospital. Her hospital colleagues became her great friends, and her career there extended well beyond retirement age.
When Andy passed away on March 15, 1987, Fran started the second part of her life. She was rejuvenated with the birth of her grandchildren, Andi, Autumn and Meadow. Fran was a devoted member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, taught Bible Study at the Galena-Stauss Nursing Home, loved watching sports, especially the Galena Pirates, and her granddaughter’s volleyball games.
Fran was a devoted member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church where she enjoyed serving in every aspect such as serving communion, quilting, setting up the altar and running a Bible study at the nursing home. While she loved her family and friends, Fran also could fritter away a day by herself like no body’s business. She was an avid reader, loved walking and being outside and working in her flower garden. She enjoyed traveling and going on adventures of any kind especially the kind that ended with a glass of wine with her friend Joanne. Fran loved to quilt and was very proud of the many quilts she helped to make for the church. She embodied goodness and led by example including always having chocolate chip cookies in the freezer in case company dropped in.
Surviving are three daughters, Ann Rogers-Deppe (William) of Shullsburg, WI, Susan Rogers of Beverly, MA and Brooke (David) Deppe of Cuba City, WI; three granddaughters, Andi Amidon, Autumn and Meadow Deppe; and a brother Robert Fuller. Her family feels blessed that Fran enjoyed a lifetime of good health and a great spirit and faith and that she is reunited with her husband.
She was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Marian; and her husband Andy.
Memorials may be given to St. Matthew Lutheran Church.

Tommy Lee McCutcheon
Tommy Lee McCutcheon, 63, of Lost Nation, Iowa, passed away on Monday morning, September 27, 2021, at Mill Valley Care Center in Bellevue, Iowa.
A celebration of his life will be held at 10 A.M., Saturday, October 2, 2021, at the Union Presbyterian Church in Lost Nation, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 1, 2021 from 5 to 7 P.M. at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Burial will be at the Union Cemetery, rural Maquoketa, Iowa, with military honors.
Tommy Lee McCutcheon was born on June 23, 1958 in Iowa City, Iowa to Kermit Leroy and Darlene Mildred (Jones) McCutcheon. He was a 1977 graduate of Lost Nation High School and then served his country earning an honorable discharge.
Tommy had worked as an over the road truck driver from 1980 to 1983 and then again from 1999 to 2004. He had also worked for WADY’S in Maquoketa from 1997 to 1999.
Tommy was a member of Union Presbyterian Church in Lost Nation and the American Legion Menzo Widle Post #381 of Lost Nation. He enjoyed watching television, computers, and truck driving.
Those left to honor his memory include three brothers, James McCutcheon of Indianola, IA, Dave Barker of MO, and Ricky Barker of MO; and 12 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mary Lou Krapfl
Mary Lou Krapfl, 92, of New Vienna passed away Tuesday, September 28, 2021, at her home surrounded with love.
Visitation will be held from 3-7 p.m. on Friday, October 1, 2021, at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville. Visitation will continue Saturday morning from 9-10 a.m. at Kramer Funeral Home prior to funeral mass.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 2, 2021, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, New Vienna, with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Dennis Quint will officiate.
Mary Lou was born on October 8, 1928, in rural Garnavillo, Iowa, the daughter of Louis and Clara (Harter) Berns. She married Roger J. Krapfl on February 7, 1950, in Garnavillo, Iowa. Together they raised their family and she served as a secretary for New Vienna Co-Op Oil for years until Roger’s death in 1984.
She was a very active member of St. Boniface Parish, serving on the Altar & Rosary Society. She had a passion for her flowers and yard, hosting family gatherings, playing cards, quilting, baking and canning, especially making and gifting her raspberry jam at Christmas to her family.
Mary Lou is survived by her children: Jim (Jodi) Krapfl of Des Moines, IA, Jack (Pat) Krapfl of Guttenberg, Jane (Denny) Heims of Dyersville, Joe Krapfl of North Liberty, IA, Jeff (Laurie) Krapfl of Dyersville, Mike Krapfl of Earlville, IA, Mark (Jan) Krapfl of Cedar Rapids, Marty (Sheila) Krapfl and Jeni (Joe) Schindler, both of Dyersville; 23 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren; a brother, Louis Berns of Monona, in-laws: Rosie Berns of Garnavillo, Nellie Krapfl and Don (Jean) Krapfl, both of New Vienna, IA, and Jean Hermsen of Dyersville, IA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Roger in 1984, a daughter-in-law, Mary Krapfl, and a grandson, Austin Krapfl; siblings and their spouses: Peter Berns, Roland Berns, Claudine Goedken – McClain, Laura Sudmeier, Clara Ann Neuhaus, Helene Sudmeier, and Aloys Berns; in-laws: Bob Krapfl, Dan Hermsen.

Elvira A. Garrett
Elvira “Vi” Antonette Garrett, 96, of Asbury, Iowa passed peacefully on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at Terrace Glen Village in Marion, IA. Visitaion will be from 9:00 am to 10:30 am Saturday, October 2, 2021 at Resurrection Church, 4300 Asbury Road, Dubuque IA. Followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am. Burial will take place at Resurrection Cemetery, Asbury, IA.
Vi was born on May 27, 1925 in Galena, Illinois, the daughter of Ben and Emma (Holland) Knobbe.
Vi attended St Mary’s Grade School and graduated from Galena High School. She first worked at Savanna Army Depot, then Dubuque John Deere Tractor Works.
On May 29, 1948 she married William Ames Garrett at St. Patrick’s Church, Dubuque, Iowa. He preceded her in death on June 17, 2005.
She thoroughly enjoyed reading, gardening, canning, cooking and quilting. In addition she enjoyed working with Holy Trinity Church and School and her many volunteer activities. She spent a lifetime being around her family and extended family cooking, sharing and enjoying comradery until her passing.
Vi will be greatly missed by her two children; Robert (Rhonda) Garrett of Wausau, WI, Patricia (Kris) Koelker of Marion, IA and four grandchildren: Corey (Hannah Westbrook) Garrett of Denver CO, Caitlin Garrett of Minneapolis, MN, Kelsey (Ben) Struik of Marion, IA and Lauren Koelker of Madison, WI.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Maryann (Clarence) Seitz of Asbury, IA and many nieces and nephews.
Vi was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers and six sisters including; Orville Knobbe, Irene (Willey) Ganshirt, Harry (Vi) Knobbe, Helen (Ted) Kendrick, Ethel (Ben) Troy, Cecelia (Walter) Wodynski, Alice (Archie) Jackson, Florence (Bill) Dimke.

Perly L. Reeg
Perly L. Reeg, 89, of Dubuque, Iowa, formerly of Bellevue, passed away Monday, September 27, 2021, at ManorCare Health Services – Dubuque. Visitation for family and friends will be Saturday, October 2, from 9-11, with an 11 am service led by Holy Ghost Deacon David Roth at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Funeral Home, 2659 John F Kennedy Rd, Dubuque. Burial will be at Mt Calvary Cemetery in Dubuque with full Military Honors accorded by the Bellevue American Legion Post #273.
Perly was born on August 7, 1932, in Bellevue, to William and Edna (Ernst) Reeg. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Korea following the war rebuilding infrastructure. He married Kathleen Regan on June 25, 1960, at St. Joseph’s Church in Rickardsville. He was a machinist at John Deere Dubuque Works, retiring after 33 years. He was proud of his role as UAW union steward, lead machinist, and the creativity awards he received during his time there. He and Kathleen (Kay) enjoyed bowling leagues, playing Euchre with friends and family, and hosting parties. Perly and Kay enjoyed taking their six children camping and fishing. He and Kay continued to travel through retirement, visiting their adult children around the country, often with grandchildren in tow. Perly appreciated spending time on his family’s farms by helping during the harvest. He was a jack of all trades and was very talented in construction, building their family home and later helping on his kid’s homes. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and they loved his unique chuckle and the wonderful fort, clubhouse, and treehouse he built for them.
He is survived by his wife Kathleen; children Jackie Reeg of Fort Collins, CO, Patricia Noble of Viroqua, WI, Thomas (Mary) Reeg of Dubuque, and Kevin (Ana) Reeg of Walnut Creek, CA; 14 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; brother LeRoy (Jeanne) Reeg; and sister Arlene (Cletus) Victor.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers William, Robert, Carlyle (his twin), and Edwin; sister Linda (Norbert) Lampe; and daughters Julie Palmer and Karen Baltierra.

Donald J. Nauman
Donald J. Nauman, 87, of Asbury, died Tuesday, September 28, 2021, at Unity Point Health-Finley Hospital in Dubuque.
Visitation will be from 9:00 am until 10:45 am Monday, October 4, 2021 at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Sherrill.
The Mass of Christian Burial for Don will be 11:00 am Monday, October 4, 2021, at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church with Father Noah Diehm as the Celebrant. Burial will be in SS Peter and Paul Cemetery in Sherrill.
Donald was born August 18, 1934, in Sherrill, IA, the son of Alphonse and Selma Harvey Nauman. Don graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1952. On April 3, 1956, he married Charlene Ann Freiburger at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Sherrill.
He worked for John Deere Dubuque Works from 1958 until his retirement in 1988. After retirement, Don became manager of the Dubuque Trolley Co. and also drove a school bus for Dubuque Community Schools until 1999. Don and Charlene purchased the Trolley company in 1992 and owned it until 2007. Also a farmer, he and Charlene purchased a small farm in October of 1958 where they lived and farmed until April 3, 2016.
He was an active member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Sherrill, where he served on the parish council and was active with the church renovation project. He was also a member of Knights of Columbus Council #5513, and UAW Local 94 retirees. Don and Charlene enjoyed square dancing and went to many state conventions and four national conventions. Together, he and Charlene also held many state offices and were in charge of the 1988 State convention in Dubuque. He loved sports, especially baseball, and coached little league baseball for 10 years and umpired for several leagues for eight years.
Survivors include his wife, Charlene Ann Nauman of Asbury; four children, Sheila (Paul) Todd of Orlando, FL, Nicholas (Lori) Nauman of Bellevue, IA, Brian (Sherry) Nauman of Eldridge, IA, and Marilyn (Jim) Kerkhove of Omaha, NE; five grandchildren, Andrea, Katelyn, Bradley, Emily, and Rynn; and six great-grandchildren, Michael, Isabelle, Bobby, Anna, Ileen, and Lorene, and one more on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents, father and mother-in law, Ray and Hilda Freiburger, three brothers, Albert, Reginald and Cletus Nauman, and three sisters-in-law, Ruth, LaVera, and Jean Nauman.
A memorial has been established for SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Sherrill.

Frederick Aurthur Westmark, 75, formerly of Dyersville passed away Sunday, September 19, 2021.
Fred was born on May 8, 1946 in Dyersville, Iowa, the son Cleo and Loretta (Kluesner) Westmark.
Survivors include his sister: Mary Bockenstedt of Dubuque, nieces & nephews: Paul (Cathy) Bockenstedt of Eden Prairie, MN, Ann (Andy) Rettenmeier of Dubuque, great niece & nephew, Lara Bockenstedt, Daniel Bockenstedt, James Rettenmeier, Peter Rettenmeier, in-laws: Toyoko Westmark of Dyersville, and cousin, Judy Henke of Dyersville.

Karen L. Specht
Karen L. Specht, 83, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, September 27, 2021, at Crestridge Care Center in Maquoketa, Iowa.
A celebration of her life will be held at 11 A.M., Monday, October 4, 2021, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Visitation will be held prior to the funeral from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Union Cemetery, rural Maquoketa, Iowa.
Karen Lee Morehead was born on April 23, 1938 in Maquoketa, Iowa, to Blaire and Marcene (Bollinger) Morehead. She was a 1956 graduate of Maquoketa High School and then attended AIC in Davenport. She married Larry Specht on March 16, 1958 in Maquoketa, Iowa. He preceded her in death on February 9, 2013.
While in high school Karen was a lifeguard and swim instructor. She then worked at Jackson State Bank in Maquoketa and later as a checker at Skeffington’s Jack and Jill. She retired after 25 years of service as a 911 dispatcher with the Maquoketa Police Department and as secretary for the Drug Task Force.
Karen was an avid bowler in her younger years. She enjoyed crafts, going to casinos, auctions, and attending sporting events, especially with her children and grandchildren. Additionally, she was an avid supporter of Maquoketa High School athletics and events. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa.
Those left to honor her memory include her children, Scott Specht of Maquoketa, IA, Chad (Vickie) Specht of Maquoketa, IA, and Stacy (Kevin) Owen of Maquoketa, IA; 6 grandchildren, Cody, Brian, Nathan, Emily, Carter and Toby; 2 step-grandchildren, Gentry and Gatlin Owen; and brothers, Leonard (Mary Jane) Morehead of Fort Myers, FL, and Terry (Tanya) Morehead of Seabeck, WA. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Larry, and a sister Shelley Tharp.

Elizabeth A. Reeg
Elizabeth A. “Betty” Reeg, 74, of DeWitt, IA passed away on September 26, 2021, in Davenport, IA.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 1, 2021, at Holy Family Church, New Melleray with Rev. Rodney Allers officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, September 30th, 2021, at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road.
Betty (McCarthy) Reeg was born October 13, 1946, in Dubuque, Iowa. She attended 8 years of grade school at Table Mound Township with perfect attendance. Betty continued to Dubuque Wahlert High School where she excelled in academics and art. She acted in numerous plays and was a cheerleader for the football team. She graduated in May 1964 and went on to St. Anthony’s School of Nursing in Rock Island. In 1967 she graduated as a registered nurse. During and following her time at St. Anthony’s she worked as an aid at the Kahl Home in Davenport and at St. Anthony’s hospital in Rock Island in the cardiac care and intensive care unit.
Betty met Stan Reeg on October 15, 1965, while attending a dance at the Dubuque County Fairgrounds Ballroom. A year later they were engaged and got married on September 2nd, 1967, at Holy Family Catholic Church at New Mellary by the Monastery. They had two boys Todd on May 30, 1968, and Eric on June 16, 1972.
In 1970 Betty moved to DeWitt and worked in the ICU at Jane Lamb Hospital in Clinton. Following she worked in various nursing positions: Clinton county visiting nurse, private physician’s nurse, private duty nurse and finished up her career at John Deere Health Insurance as a quality care assurance specialist. Betty served on numerous boards over the years including the Central Community High School Athletic Booster Club for 8 years, the DeWitt Community Hospital Foundation and the Genesis Foundation Board for 15 years. She helped to start the annual charity golf tournament which benefited the DeWitt hospital. She co-chaired the tournament for over a decade and helped raise thousands of dollars. Betty was also active in the catholic church as was a 50-year member of the St. Joseph’s altar and rosary society in DeWitt. She volunteered in the DeWitt Library and many classrooms and field trips for her boys. In the summer of 1985 Betty and the boys joined Springbrook Country Club while Stan was in Minneapolis training to become a financial advisor with Dain Bosworth. She and Stan developed some good friends through golfing at the club and their children’s school activities in DeWitt.
Betty enjoyed cooking and baking. She prepared many fine meals and hosted many get togethers. However, most people will remember her cookies and desserts. She was a very talented artist. Betty did watercolor and oil-based canvas paintings. She also did many other crafts including fabric picture frames, fabric jewelry boxes, fabric sun bonnet girls, ceramic dolls and ornaments and many more. She sold arts and crafts at shows around DeWitt and the midwest including Chicago. Betty enjoyed bowling and bowled in a lady’s league at DeWitt Lanes for many years. After retirement, Betty and Stan enjoyed traveling and have been to over 45 countries such as Thailand, China, France, Ireland, Gallapados Islands, Egypt, Botswana, Kenya, Greece and many more.
Betty is survived by her husband, Stanley, two boys: Todd (Jodi) Reeg of Paradise Valley, Arizona and Eric (Tracy) Reeg of Norwalk, Iowa and four grandchildren: Trevor, Chloe, Hanna and Kamryn. She was always proud of each of them and their accomplishments. Betty truly was the family matriarch and loved her family immensely. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She is also survived by her two sisters: Barbara Pauley (friend Mike Howard) of Dubuque, Iowa and Debra (Jerry) Cryderman of Sault Ste Marie, Michigan and her in-laws: Bill and Diane Reeg, of Bellevue, IA, Mike and Peg Reeg, of CO, Judy and Ken Lochner, of Dubuque, IA Don and Val Reeg, of CO, Imelda and Bill Boyce, of Dubuque, James (Doc) Reeg of CO and Kathy Kean of CO and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Charles “Charlie” and Kaye McCarthy and her in laws Bill and Marian Reeg.

We would like to thank Dr. Michael Porubcin in Davenport and Dr. Yousef Zakhria at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City and the numerous other health care workers who did all they could to help Betty with her cancer battle.
Linda A. Roscamp
Linda Ann Roscamp, 72, of Dubuque, died Monday, September 27, 2021, at her home in Dubuque.
Visitation will be Wednesday, September 29, 2021 from 12 Noon until 1:00 pm at Church of the Nativity.
The Mass of Christian Burial for Linda will be Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at 1:00 pm at Church of the Nativity with Father Andy Upah as the Celebrant. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Dubuque.

Carl R. Selzer
Carl R. Selzer, 74, of LaMotte, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, September 26, 2021, in rural Maquoketa.
A graveside service and burial celebrating Carl’s life will be held at 11 A.M., Friday, October 1, 2021, at Esgate Cemetery, rural Maquoketa, Iowa. Military rites will be accorded. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 30, 2021 from 5 to 7 P.M. at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa.
It will be required to utilize face masks during the visitation.
Carl Ross Selzer was born on October 9, 1946 in Clinton, Iowa, to Johnie and Alice (Kinley) Selzer. He attended Andrew Schools and then served his country earning an honorable discharge, recently receiving the Quilt of Valor. He married Arlene Clapham on April 20, 1968 in Dubuque, Iowa. Two children were born to this union, Anita and Daniel.
Carl was a lifelong farmer in the Jackson County area. He was well-known for taking on a challenge and remodeling farm properties and making things look nice. He was always busy and took great pride in his work and the farm’s he and Arlene owned. He was skilled at doing many things including bulldozing and making handmade benches.
Carl was an active community servant and was a member of the Bellevue American Legion Post #273, and through the years had volunteered as a Jackson County Sheriff’s Deputy. He also served as the city of LaMotte Town Marshall for 9 years and ran for the Jackson County Sheriff in 2000.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Arlene Selzer of LaMotte, IA; children, Anita (Mike) Stender of Maquoketa, IA, and Dan (Terri) Selzer of Maquoketa, IA; 3 step-grandchildren; and 6 step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
