Mary Kay Launspach
Mary Kay Launspach, of Dubuque, died on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at Unity Point Health-Finley Hospital. A prayer service will be held at 3:00 pm Monday, May 6, 2024 at Hoffmann Schneider and Kitchen Funeral Home and Crematory followed by visitation until 7:00 pm.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Kay will be 11:00 am Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at Church of the Resurrection with Father Dustin Vu as the Celebrant. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Key West.
Mary Kay was born July 23, 1934 in Dubuque, IA, daughter of Henry and Catherine O’Malley Ludwig. She married Dale Launspach on October 17, 1953 at St. Anthony’s Church in Dubuque. Dale preceded her in death on March 18, 2017.
Mary Kay was from the O’Malley clan on her mother’s side, a true Irish lass. She graduated from Visitation Academy and attended Clarke College. She was a member of the Church of the Resurrection. Mary Kay was a homemaker and raised her seven children while also working as a part-time book editor for William Brown Publishing. There she was able to use her skill with the English language, a trait she shared with her children by correcting their grammar whenever necessary. After her children were raised, Mary Kay also worked at the Telegraph Herald in the classified department.
In her early years, Mary Kay was an accomplished tennis player, roaming the courts of Dubuque with her friends including her brother, Dick, and her future husband, Dale. At seventeen, she was the women’s city tennis champion and would continue the sport throughout her life, including a club championship at Thunder Hills Country Club while in her forties. She loved to play tennis with her children (as long as they hit the ball to her and didn’t make her run, meanwhile running her kids all over the court!). She was a fierce competitor with her wooden Bancroft racket, but Mary Kay was never a disciplinarian with her children and, although she threatened to use it often to correct a wayward child, that ping-pong paddle never did make it off of the top of the refrigerator.
In 1967, she lost a beloved son to heart failure and, as with any parent that has lost a child, she carried Marty’s memory with her the rest of her life. In her late sixties, May Kay suffered a massive stroke. For a woman that had taken such pride in her physical condition she had to spend the next twenty-two years in a body she struggled to control. Despite these setbacks, Mary Kay remained a kind, loving person with a quick wit. During those years she relied heavily on her children, son and daughter-in-laws and grandchildren to retain her independent lifestyle. Especially helpful was her daughter, Geri.
If you were part of Mary Kay’s family, she loved you with all her heart, unconditionally and loyally. That was especially true of her 20 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. Any parent trying to bemoan a misbehaving grandchild or great-grandchild of Grandma Mary Kay was met with the same response – “They are perfect!” As her body failed her, Mary Kay became an even more avid reader and follower of politics. She had hoped to vote one more time in 2024. That dream did not come true but she is in heaven now, her arms wrapped around Marty, as the years of sorrow that came from missing him wash away. Her family is left to celebrate the life of a woman who died the way she lived – peacefully and gracefully.
Survivors include six children, Mary (Warren) White of Glen Haven, WI, Steve (Tracy) Launspach of Peosta, Gerianne Launspach of Dubuque, Dick (Lori) Launspach of Dubuque, Teri (Brian) Schulz of Asbury, and Maureen (Jeff) Bortscheller of Asbury; 20 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Barbara Ludwig of Dubuque.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Martin Dale Launspach, her parents, and one brother, Richard Ludwig.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for Mary’s Inn and Opening Doors-Teresa Shelter.
The family thanks the 5th floor nurses at Finley Hospital, the staff at Eagle Point, Katie Duax from No Place Like Home, and Mary Schmidt from Resurrection, for all of their care, prayers, and support.

Marjorie M. Thillman
Marjorie M. “Margie” Thillman, age 89, of Dubuque, IA, completed her earthly journey on April 30, 2024, at home at Eagle Pointe Place, while surrounded by her loving family. To honor Margie’s life, her committal service with time for sharing will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at Mt. Calvary Cemetery located at 1111 Davis St, Dubuque. Family and friends are also invited to join in for her Celebration of Life which will be held from 1:00–4:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at her granddaughter Melanie’s home, 2341 Maplewood Drive in Asbury, IA. The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Margie’s family.
Margie was born on July 19, 1934, in Welch, LA, a daughter to Russell and Dorothy (Jones) McMillin. She spent her formative years developing her kind and loving spirit and dreamed of having a family of her own to love and nurture in time. One evening at the local skating rink, a young U.S. Air Force G.I. named Robert J. “Bob” Thillman tapped a very shy Margie on the shoulder and asked her to skate together. This was the beginning of a 64-year long love story, blessed with countless memories and four children of their own after they eventually moved back to Dubuque where Bob was from. Sadly, Bob was called to heaven ahead of her on May 18, 2020, and Margie has waited patiently for their eternal reunion.
Margie was a wonderful wife, a patient mother, and a devoted grandmother and always took great pride in her family and the generations to follow. In her free-time, Margie enjoyed watching her flower gardens grow, searching for the newest addition to her tea pot collection, and meeting with friends for dinner. She always enjoyed a little country music playing in the background while she worked around the house. When a little time to relax in the recliner found its way into her day, a good book or the latest episode of The Voice were always considered to be time well spent. It’s difficult to imagine life moving forward without Margie’s sweet and spicy attitude towards life flowing effortless within the daily lives of those who knew and loved her. We can only pray that she and Bob are catching up and she’s enjoying a little extra time in the heavenly beauty salon working on her perfect hairstyle. Thank you, Margie, for consistently possessing a forgiving and gentle soul and may the Lord keep you safe in his loving arms until we meet again.

Martha was born on March 5, 1929, in Savanna, IL, a daughter to Laird and Pansy (Ray) Castle. She was gifted with a straight shooter personality which she carried proudly throughout her entire life. Martha was primarily a housewife and a wonderful mother at heart, but did find time to work outside of the home in a few different avenues. She was the Secretary of the Corporation for her husband, Robert’s business, Carroll County Auto Sales for many years, but also enjoyed working as a hostess at the Ramada Inn as well. Martha also enjoyed her adventure as a personal assistant to hypnotist Jim Wand and as a co-owner of the Bottom’s Up Tavern in Dubuque. Her greatest joy in the working world though was surely her stent from 1996-2000 as the manager of the family business, Cash Quick America. But truly, Martha enjoyed visiting with folks wherever the day took her, always carrying her red hair which matched her personality with pride, and in her later years sporting her newest hat to add to her collection. Anyone who knew Martha learned very quickly that you would never have to wonder what she was thinking. Her ability to speak directly to the matter at hand was unwavering and relentless when necessary. Martha thankfully leaves behind a treasure trove of memories for all who came into her world to remember and lean into during the difficult days ahead and for that we are forever grateful. Thank you, Martha, for never leaving them guessing, always adding personality to every room you ventured into and for sharing our love, lessons, and light with all who were fortunate enough to know and love you. Nicholas D. Guler

Nicholas D. “Nick” Guler, 39 of Sherrill, Iowa passed away of heart failure on April 29th, 2024, at UnityPoint Health, Finley Hospital.
Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 3rd, 2024, at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road. Additional visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday May 4th, at the funeral home, with a funeral service to begin at 12:00 p.m. with Pastor John Soernson officiating. Nick was born on June 17, 1984, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Dean and Rose (Goerdt) Guler. He graduated from Hempstead High School in 2002 and from NICC as a Diesel Tech in 2003.
He was currently employed at John Deere in the Mechanic Experimental Department. He also worked for Errthum Custom Farming, along with countless side gigs wherever help was needed.
Although Nick worked hard, he played even harder, he lived his life to the fullest. He learned this lesson early in life when his father passed away in 2010.
Nick’s favorite place was on his boat, on the river with a fishing pole in his hand. He was an avid fisherman and attended many tournaments. We could hardly find a picture of him without a fish in it.
His family and friends were most important. He is Uncle Nick to Will and Jade and Uncle Gub to many more.
He is survived by his mother Rose (Randy) Ludowitz; his sister Amanda (Justin) Hoffmann; his nephew/godson Will and his niece Jade. His grandparents Earl and Marlene Guler. Aunts and Uncles: Wayne & Jean Guler, Penny and Jim Wulfekuhle, Doreen Goerdt, John and Diane Goerdt, and Mike and Cindy Goerdt. He is also survived by extended family members and many great friends.
Nick was preceded in death by his father Dean; grandparents Robert and Opal Goerdt and Uncles Bob Goerdt and Scott Goerdt.
The family wishes to thank Finley ER and ICU, especially Shannon RN in the ER along with Sherrill Fire and Ambulance for all their care and compassion they gave to Nick and his family.
Nick’s final gift to others was being a tissue donor with the Iowa Donor Network.
Although our hearts are breaking, we know he is watching over us.

Ronnie L. Bradley
Ronnie L. Bradley, age 60, of Dubuque, IA, completed his earthly journey on April 29, 2024, at home, while surrounded by his loving family. To honor Ronnie’s life, a private family service is being held. The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Ronnie’s family.
Ronnie was born on February 22, 1964, in Kenosha, WI, a son to Larry L. and Connie J. (Churchill) Bradley. He was a simple man at heart and understood from a young age that the best moments and opportunities in life rarely come veiled in ten layers of complications. A nice afternoon practicing your archery skills with Dad was a perfect day by any measure. The appreciation of the original pony car and all of its variations was always going to be time well spent and eventually obtaining your dream of owning one of your own was only icing on the cake. That 1992 Mustang was appreciated more than any mansion could ever hope to be and Ronnie understood that was where true joy was to be found. In more recent years Ronnie’s affinity for flying drones took center stage in his life. Big or small, short or long distances, it was all the same to Ronnie and every minute he was given to finely tune the adjustments and enjoy a little free time was all he needed to consider the day a successful one. It’s such a rare gift in this world to find a real man who would literally give you the shirt off of his back, know the exact moment to drop a little humor into a conversation, and still be humble enough to never allow himself to be taken too seriously for fear that his true inner peace in mind, body and spirit could be robbed of its intrinsically natural balance. The world is truly a lesser place today without Ronnie running amongst us spreading his light and joy for all to see, but he fought the good fight and his courageous battle with cancer has finally come to its inevitable end.
Thank you, Ronnie, for continually reminding those around you that moments can last a lifetime when we only take time to make it so. May peace be yours now from your earthly battles and may the Lord keep you safe in His loving arms until we all meet again.
Those left behind to cherish the memory of Ronnie include: his two sons, Jeff Bradley, Dubuque, IA, and Nick Bradley, Dubuque, IA; his grandson, Oliver Bradley, Dubuque, IA; his siblings, Larry (Heidi) Bradley, Jr., Independence, IA, Holly (Kevin) Bradley, East Dubuque, IL,
and Garry Bradley, Dubuque, IA; along with numerous extended family, friends, and neighbors.
Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents.
Ronnie’s family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Hospice of Dubuque for all of their professional and compassionate care.
Online condolences may be shared with Ronnie’s family at www.tristatecremationcenter.com
