Pamela J. DeMeester

Pamela Jean DeMeester, age 75, of East Dubuque, Illinois, went home to be with the Lord on October 9, 2025, after courageously living with Alzheimer’s disease for ten years. Her family is deeply grateful for the unwavering care and devotion provided by her husband, Bob, throughout her illness.

Pam was born on August 7, 1950, in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of Donald and Janet (Schuster) Kirmse. She graduated from Dubuque Senior High School (1968) and earned an associate degree from Northeast Iowa Community College.

On July 8, 1972, Pam married Robert (Bob) DeMeester, the love of her life. They shared 53 wonderful years of marriage, raising their family, building lasting friendships, and creating countless joyful memories together.

Pam devoted 30 years of her career to Head Start, where she touched the lives of many children and families with her patience, warmth, and creativity.

A devoted member of GracePoint (Third Presbyterian Church) of Dubuque, Pam’s faith was the cornerstone of her life. She taught Sunday School for many years, directed Vacation Bible School, and also served as a deacon and elder on the church board.

Her lifelong passion for the water was centered on the Mississippi River, where she spent countless hours boating with her family—from peaceful days on sailboats to the excitement of waterskiing and tubing from power boats. Following her retirement, she fulfilled a personal dream with her own jet ski and enjoyed taking extended cruises with her husband on their 26-foot vessel.

Pam is survived by her husband, Bob, and their four children: Dawn (Nick) Buol of Winter Garden, FL; Craig (Melanie) DeMeester of St. Johns, FL; Angie (Jason) Mock of St. Joseph, IL; and Stephanie (Rich) Naylor of Ponte Vedra, FL.

She was a proud grandmother of 14 grandchildren: Allison (Michael) Fortin of Windermere, FL; Makaela (Tyler) Moores of Marion, IA; Evan, Ayden, Gracia, Ella, Briana, Myles, and Aaron DeMeester of St. Johns, FL; Elijah, Isaiah, and Hannah Mock of St. Joseph, IL; and Madison and Colton Naylor of Ponte Vedra, FL. She was also blessed with 3 great-grandchildren: Oliver and Presley Fortin and Sarai Moores.

Pam is survived by her sister, Cher (Joe) Hoffmann of LaMotte, IA, along with two nieces and two nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Janet Kirmse, and her sister, Debra Stein of Marion, IA.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 12th, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at GracePoint Church, 3100 Windsor Avenue, Dubuque. The Funeral Service will be on Monday, October 13th, at 10:30 a.m., also at GracePoint, with Pastor Jeff Durham officiating. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery.

David J. Beidler

David J. Beidler, 75, of Dubuque, Iowa, passed away on October 9, 2025, at home.

Friends and family may visit from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road. A Funeral Service will begin at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. A private family burial will be at a later date at Mount Olivet Cemetery.

David was born on November 6, 1950, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Robert and Donna (Weimerskirk) Beidler. He graduated from Wahlert Catholic High School. David began his career at the family business, Beidler Towing, before later joining the DOT. He was united in marriage to Barb Vyverberg on May 25, 1974, at St. Columbkille Catholic Church.

He enjoyed watching sports on TV, never picking a favorite team because he loved them all. While he went camping, fishing, and hunting (especially turkey hunting with his father-in-law) he wouldn’t have gone alone; he did it for the company. A people person through and through, he had the gift of gab and a knack for BS-ing that made him fun to be around. He once drove stock cars and was always up for going out to eat. He loved spending time with family, especially grilling out on the deck, where every meal was “the best food he ever had,” even if it wasn’t. He’d eat anything placed in front of him (except frog legs!). Family cookouts on the deck were his idea of Heaven. He loved chatting on the phone, especially with his buddies. He was also known for saying, “Take a mini break,” even if he’d only been working for a couple of minutes, a phrase that perfectly captured his fun, easygoing spirit.

David is survived by his wife of 51 years, Barb; children, Camy (Brad) Blackbourn, Kim (Travis) Hauri, Kara Beidler; “his girly-girls” Abby and Carly Blackbourne, and Anna Beidler; siblings Dennis (Molly) Beidler; siblings-in-law John “Eddie” (Julie) Vyverberg, Deb Kass, Richard (Joyce) Vyverberg, Lauri (Jeff) Trannel, and Lisa (Dave) Zboril; his god-children Emily Vyverberg and Rob Beidler; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, whom were very near and dear to him; grand-dogs Jet, Bailey B., Lucy Lu (whom David called Rusty), and Frank B.; and his Cairn Terrier, his “only son,” Ozzy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Donna; brother, Doug Beidler; parents-in-law Mel and Peggy Vyverberg; and brother-in-law Stan Kass.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Luther Manor, and Caleb “Spook” Kass, his equipment go-to guy.

Thanks for the memories…

David P. Ames Jr.

David Paul “Davey” Ames, Jr., age 51, of Dubuque, IA, completed his earthly journey suddenly on October 8, 2025, at home.  To honor Davey’s life, a Celebration of Life for family and friends in the Dubuque area will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at Jackson Park, 1500 Main Street in Dubuque.  A Celebration of Life for family and friends in the Rockford area will be held from 12:00-3:00 p.m., on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at the Rockford Verdi Club, 782 North Madison Street in Rockford, IL.  The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving David’s family.

David was born on December 16, 1973, in Rockford, IL, a son to David P. Ames, Sr. and Rosemarie (Craddock) Ames.  He was surely gifted with a kind and gentle heart from the beginning.  The kind of heart we all wish those around us possessed, but sadly the exact ones which when walking through this broken world, often finds itself bearing deep bruises and scars which can never really heal.  David eventually found the love of his life, Toni M. Grubb and the two were united in marriage and blessed with three daughters of their own to love and nurture in their life together.  Sadly, Toni was called home ahead of David and the girls in 2021.  As many who knew him well, this wound would weigh heavily on his heart until he took his very last breath.  Those who have walked the aisles of Eagle’s Country Market downtown may fondly remember seeing Davey’s smiling face quite often.  He spent many years there bringing what joy he could to both co-workers and customers alike.

In his free-time, David savored the simple things in life most.  His cats were always by his side and his plants were truly a wonder to watch thrive.  He had such a green thumb that often friends and neighbors would bring him their ailing plants only to watch him bring them back to vibrant life in no time.  David was never one to turn down a little time with his fishing pole in hand whenever time allowed and when evening arrived, you could easily find him cooking up a delicious meal, especially his favorite and regular staple, “Pasta Sugo” when the mood struck him.  When the day was done and dinner had ended, David would often settle in for a relaxing night with a sincere and heartfelt movie to enjoy with his family right by his side as often as possible.  He had a wonderful sense of humor and could effortlessly deliver the perfect joke at a moment’s notice.  In his spare time, a little classic 80’s hair band music would fill the space and put a few scratch off tickets in front of him as well and life was good in Davey’s mind.  We are going to miss his love for the perfect candle, rainstorms, (and even snowstorms if you could imagine that), but we are forever grateful that David’s earthly health battles have now ceased.  His eternal reunion with his loved ones has to be a glorious one as he missed them so and we can only wait now to join them all again in time when the Lord calls us home also.  Thank you Davey for fighting the good fight when you could, for allowing your light to shine as brightly as this world would permit, and for reminding us all that life is a precious journey that we must do our best to never take for granted as each day is undeniably a gift.  May the Lord bless you and keep you safe and secure in His loving arms until we get to see your joyful smile once again.

Those left to cherish the memory of David include,

his loving mother,
Rose Ames, Dubuque, IA;

his father,
David Ames, Sr., Rockford, IL;

his three adored daughters,
Zoe (Alex Puccio) Ames, Dubuque, IA,
Carmen (Joey Puccio) Ames, Dubuque, IA,
and Hannah (Zach Tittle) Ames, Dubuque, IA;

his grandchildren,

Sawyer Puccio, Noah Puccio, Joey Puccio and Delilah Tittle;

his brother,
Jeffrey (Jackie) Ames, Rockford, IL;

his nieces,
Lily Ames and Evie Ames, Rockford, IL;

his favorite feline companions,
Baby and Crabs;

along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, friends and neighbors.

David was preceded in death by his loving wife, Toni Marie (Grubb) Ames; his many grandparents and great-grandparents; along with his grandmother who held a very special bond with Davey, Rosemary T. “Rose” Capriola.

David’s family would like to thank the Dubuque Police Department and the Dubuque County Medical Examiner’s Office for all of their professional and compassionate care.

Jack was born on November 18, 1955, in Savanna, IL, the first son to Wayne and Lonna (Radabaugh) McDermott.  He was gifted with a strong independent streak and the ability to make friends wherever he went.  Jack spent many years working with antiques, first driving for Paul Goedken and then for Banowetz Antiques in Galena. He later managed the Banowetz store as he loved historic items and the stories that went with them. He also loved cooking, worked as a cook, and managed the kitchen at Benjamin’s in Galena for many years. He later moved into the carpentry trade with his cousin Kyle at Kobbler Kyle Construction.  Jack was meticulous in his work, paying great attention to detail. He continued doing handyman projects as he later moved into retirement.

In his free-time, Jack loved the outdoors.  When the workday was done, you could easily find Jack enjoying the Mississippi River at every opportunity.  Whether he was content to have a fishing pole in hand looking for the biggest catch of the day, or simply hanging out at the Ferry Landing with his friends, Jack was surely in his happy place.  Throw a little music in the background for him and he would always consider those moments to be as close to perfection as this life can offer.  Jack intentionally kept life uncomplicated and focused on the simple things that gave him pleasure. We will raise a glass to him by the river when we can, and are glad he is no longer suffering. Rest in peace Jack.

Haley was a senior at Dubuque Senior High School, where she was known for her kindness, quick wit, and the way she could make anyone laugh. She worked at the Dubuque Sports Complex-often found behind the concession stand, DJ’ing and cheering on her brothers’ baseball games-and most recently at Stonehill Care Center, where her caring heart and bright smile brought joy to the residents and staff.

One of Haley’s greatest loves was spending time with her friends, she valued all of her close friends dearly. Driving around town listening to Drake, making TikTok’s and Dunkin’ runs with her best friend, Shamiya, that ALWAYS turned into an adventure.

Haley was one of those rare souls who made every room brighter. Her kindness, her laughter, her presence- she left her mark on so many of us.

She had a fun loving spirit, sarcasm so sharp and charming it was impossible not to smile, and a heart bigger than most believed could exist. To every child she met she was a big sister and every adult around her she offered warmth and comfort.

Haley radiated light, the kind that made people feel seen, safe and loved. The world feels dimmer without her and her absence is felt in every space her joy once filled.

The family would like to thank the Dubuque Police Department, Dubuque Fire Department and Dubuque County Medical Examiner. Also to our family, friends and the entire Dubuque community. THANK YOU for the outpouring of love and support for our family through this difficult time. We love you all!

Virginette Frommelt

Virginette Frommelt of Guttenberg, Iowa, faithful servant of the Lord, passed peacefully into eternal life on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, surrounded by her family.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 pm on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at Morris Funeral Home in Guttenberg, Iowa. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Guttenberg at 10:30 am on Friday, October 10, 2025. Burial will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Guttenberg.

Born November 9, 1942, to Herbert and Claudine (Berns) Goedken, she was the eldest of seven children raised on their Farmersburg family farm. After graduating from MFL high school, Virg entered the Sisters of the Presentation convent, but eventually felt called in another direction. After leaving the convent she met the love of her life, Cyril Frommelt, at their shared workplace—Hilton Homes. After a 7-month courtship the two married January 27, 1962, at St. Pat’s Church in Monona and settled in Guttenberg, Iowa, where they spent their entire married life. This union produced five children.

Virg managed to balance child rearing; bookkeeping for Cy’s Standard gas station; cutting hair for family and friends (often for the trade of a pie or cookies); teaching religious education classes; managing the care of various cats, dogs, and hamsters; and baking enough sweets for the constant stream of kids and grandkids ever-present in their home. Virg was an active member of St. Mary’s Church, serving on various committees and singing in the church choir. She and Cy loved to pack up their brood in the family camper each summer and head west to Yellowstone, south to Florida, or to Adventureland in Des Moines, among other destinations.

Virg loved to sew clothes for her young children. Eventually her talents transferred to quilting—an art passed on by her creative mother and shared among her sisters, as well as with her husband and several of her own children.

Once their first few children moved off to college, Virg enrolled in nursing school and began her dream deferred. She earned her R.N. degree from Northeast Iowa Community College and practiced her nursing ministry at the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital, Prairie du Chien care facility, and the Guttenberg Care Center before retiring. She held special affection for senior patients.

Virg was known for her “convent stories” and tales of growing up on the farm. She held a great love for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and for any kind of pie. But most of all she loved her husband, Cy. In her years of failing health, he was her best advocate, caregiver, and friend.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 63 years, Cyril Frommelt; children: Maria (Don) Somsel of Bear Lake, MI; Donna (John) Nemmers of Asbury, IA; Beth (Greg) Nissen of Marion, IA; Cyril (Jeanne) Frommelt Jr. of Anamosa, IA; and Angie Frommelt of Davenport, IA; 9 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; siblings: LuAnn Bries, Elaine Bries, Darlene Frommelt, Don (Shirley) Goedken, Marcia (Lonnie) Roys, JoAnn (Denny) Kuehl; stepbrother, Pat (Donna) McLane; stepsister, Cheryl (Bob) Jones; and stepsister-in-law, Cathy McLane; brother-in-law, Merle (Barbara) Frommelt; and many cherished nieces and nephews.
Virg was preceded in death by her parents, Herb and Claudine Goedken; stepfather, Loraine McLane; stepbrothers: Mike and Jim McLane; father and mother-in law, Arnold and Marie Frommelt; and brother-in-law Louis Frommelt.

The family wishes to thank Virg’s sister Elaine for her loving and valuable assistance during Virg’s illness, and St. Croix Hospice for their compassion to Virg and the family. The family requests no flowers or gifts. Donations can be made in Virginette Frommelt’s name to St. Mary’s Choir in Guttenberg; Sisters of the Presentation, Dubuque; or St. Croix Hospice.

Morris Funeral Home in Guttenberg is assisting the family.  Information is available at https://www.kramer-morrisfuneralhome.com.

In her younger years, Nancy loved dancing at the Melody Mill, and square dancing with the Tri-State Twirlers square dance club. She was a devoted member of Sherrill Christian Community Church (formerly Sherrill United Methodist Church), where she was active in the Women’s Society, acting as President for several years, and taught Sunday School. Nancy also enjoyed bike rides, long walks, and family vacations to Colorado, Niagara Falls, Branson, and Noah’s Ark.

James LaCaeyse

James LaCaeyse, 83, of the Galena Territory, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all, passed away after a life filled with love, laughter, and craftsmanship. A private family service will be held later. The Furlong Funeral Chapel in Galena is assisting the family.

Born in Chicago on August 23, 1942, Jim was a man who built things—family, friendships, businesses, and a legacy that will stand the test of time. In 1976, Jim founded Lead n Glass, a decorative glass business that became a fixture in the community for its quality workmanship and honest service. For more than 30 years, he worked side by side with his sons, Todd and Jarett, passing on his skills, his humor, and his tireless work ethic. The business continues today under Todd’s direction—one of many ways Jim’s hand and heart still shape the world around him.

Jim married the love of his life, Sharon, and they shared nearly 60 wonderful years of marriage. He treated her like a princess every single day. Their love story was one of laughter, devotion, and shared adventures. They raised three children—Coreen, Todd, and Jarett. Jim was a proud and loving father who led by example, teaching his kids how to work hard, stay humble, and find humor in life’s little moments. Though the family suffered the heartbreaking loss of their son Jarett eight years ago, Jim carried his memory in his heart every day. He was also a deeply proud grandfather to six grandchildren, who adored him for his jokes, his stories, and his bottomless supply of pocket tools and fishing advice.

Outside of work, Jim loved to fish—especially in the lakes of Galena Territory, where he and Sharon made their home. He found peace on the water and joy in every catch (and probably a good story when he didn’t catch anything). He was also a talented woodworker and handyman who could fix just about anything—and usually did, with a grin and a clever remark. Jim had a charm and quick wit that drew people to him wherever he went. He never met a stranger—whether in an elevator, a parking lot, or the hardware store, he always had a one-liner ready. He often said he was the funniest guy he’d ever met, and honestly, he just might have been right. Jim will be remembered for his kindness, humor, craftsmanship, and unwavering love for his family. His legacy lives on in the people he touched, the laughter he inspired, and the countless things he built with his hands and heart.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Sharon; their two children, Coreen (Kevin) Kerr and Todd (Joanna) LaCaeyse; six grandchildren, Angela Flynn, Madalyn Flynn, Peyton LaCaeyse, Emily LaCaeyse, Jarett’s ex-wife, Elizabeth LaCaeyse, and their children, Fletcher and Harrison LaCaeyse; and many dear friends who will miss him deeply.

He was preceded in death by his son Jarett.

Delores M. Perry

Delores M. Perry, age 88, of Earlville, IA, formerly of Worthington, IA, completed her earthly journey on October 5, 2025, at home while surrounded by her loving family.  To honor Delores’ life, a private family Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.  The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Delores’ family.

Delores was born on November 27, 1936, in Greeley, IA, a daughter to Earl and Agnes (Connelly) Ingles.  She was gifted with a kind and loving spirit which continually saw the good in everyone and almost effortlessly made every room she walked into just a little brighter.  She eventually met and married the love of her life, Dwain Perry, on March 3, 1956.  The two were blessed with a family of their own and have been inseparable ever since.  She and Dwain spent countless hours on the dance floor throughout their decades together and treasured each day they were blessed with.  Delores was primarily a loving wife, mother and grandmother, but she did find time to spend some of her working years outside of the home with Ertl Manufacturing.  While investing her time and talents there, she pretty much stuck to herself  but those who knew her best were quite aware that her heart was always truly at home with her family.

Delores understood that balance in life was necessary for a joyful life as well.  When she was able to find a little free-time in her days, you could easily find her meticulously tending to her vegetable gardens with a sincere smile resting comfortably on her face.  She was also quite a cook and baker and those around her were always treated to delicious meals and even more delicious deserts on a regular basis.  Delores was also known to take excursions with her sisters to the casino on occasion and if the slots were hot, it was not uncommon for them to turn their time together into a 24-hour outing until things cooled off again.  Delores always savored all that was good in this world and not a day went by where she was absolutely delighted to walk through it with her big heart being worn so boldly and vividly right upon her sleeve for all to see.  She was just as loveable as she was loving and for that fact, we are eternally grateful for the 88 years the Lord was gracious enough to share Delores with us.  Thank you, Delores for leading with love, for always accepting those the Lord brought into your life, and for never allowing the darkness of this broken world to ever break your spirit.  May your eternal reunion with your loved ones who’ve been called home ahead of us be a joyous one and we pray that your peace from your earthly health battles brings even more comfort than we could imagine.  We will love and miss you both deeply and dearly until we all meet again!

Those left behind to cherish the memory of Delores include,

her five sons,
Dennis Perry, Epworth, IA,
Rich Perry, Dubuque, IA,
Allen Perry, Worthington, IA,

and Stephanie Perry, Monticello, IA;

her innumerable great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren whom she loved, adored and could never spoil enough;

Delores was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of 67 years, Dwain Perry; her two daughters-in-law, Connie Perry and Cindy Perry; and her many siblings.

Delores is one of two strong pillars in which this family was built upon. She will be forever loved, always adored and eternally missed!
